Denise has suggested Peter takes a year out to work and live in New Zealand, while she stays in the UK to enable Ella and Taron to complete their education.

Peter is desperately trying to secure work, to ensure he can continue to provide for his family from the other side of the world.

well, why not? he wants to move and they clearly dont, they'll split up eventually.

I thought he'd end up ditching his family and going there on his own. It's was never going to work.
