I have questions;

  1. What has happened to Gendry? Is he not the heir to the throne? Or not because he is illegitimate?
  2. Is lord baelish now completely on the side of house stark. I thought I heard him say to cersai that he could deliver Sansa stark to her a couple of seasons ago. Why is he even in the north again? Has he defected from house Lannister?
AryaUnderfoot · 01/08/2017 18:07

Show Gendry is still rowing away from Dragonstone, where he was released by Davos. He now has huge biceps (shudders) as he's been rowing for 3+ seasons.

Baelish following Schrofinger logic which means he is surrounded by Valyrian steel plot-armour. How he is alive is beyond me. I suppose:

  • He is 'technically' still Sweetrobin's protector as he's Lysa Arryn's widower.

In the books he has everyone by the short-and-curlies. He is definitely living on borrowed time methinks.

Deadsouls · 01/08/2017 18:08
  1. I still don't get who is Jon Snow's dad? Do we not know that yet? So his mum is Ned Stark's sister, but does that mean his dad is Robert Baratheon?
AryaUnderfoot · 01/08/2017 18:10

Gendry is still a bastard, not legitimised, so not in line to the throne.

Based on the fact that Cersei's children are more or less now proven to be Jaime's bastards it would seem logical that the great houses of Westeros would have her removed from power and put in her place Robert Baratheon's closest living relative on the male side.

That would be (by my reckoning)........ Daenerys Targaryan.

Deadsouls · 01/08/2017 18:10

Thanks aryaunderfoot
So is Baelish just playing whatever game suits him. I keep thinking he is going to betray Sansa somehow, or he's up to no good. Doesn't Cersai wonder where he is? Maybe he's spying for the Lannisters

Deadsouls · 01/08/2017 18:12

But I assumed the baby in the scene that Bran was 'warging' into, with Ned and his dying sister was Jon Snow. I can't remember why I assumed that

Deadsouls · 01/08/2017 18:12

Why is Dany the closest living relative of Robert Baratheon

AryaUnderfoot · 01/08/2017 18:13

Jon Snow's father is Rhaegar Targaryan - Dany's older brother. R+L=J. Lyanna was supposed to be betrothed to Robert Baratheon but buggered off with Rhaegar after he crowned her Queen of Love and Beauty at the Tourney of Harrenhal. Robert had a rebellion because of it.

He is the song of Ice and Fire.

He is the Prince that Was Promised.

Even though he knows nothing.

Deadsouls · 01/08/2017 18:15

OH! Thank you I get it now!

AryaUnderfoot · 01/08/2017 18:16

Deadsouls Baratheon's on bottom right, Dany on bottom left. There are no more surviving legitimate Baratheons. Don't know about the Estermonts, but they are on the female side.

HaveToBeSure · 01/08/2017 18:20

Dead souls we were meant to assume that and it has since been confirmed

AdalindSchade · 01/08/2017 18:21

Lyanna Stark was abducted by/eloped with (we don't know yet) Rhaegar Targaryan and Jon Snow was the child of that union. He is the son of the last Targaryan heir and Daenarys's nephew.

yumyumpoppycat · 01/08/2017 18:23

I knew the whole r&l = J thing but you put that so beautifully Arya thanks! So actually Jon is the rightful king of the seven kingdoms as he is a male heir? Dany is Jon's aunt so them having babies might not be that sweet, very Oedipus though, Oedipus play is also about knowing oneself.

yumyumpoppycat · 01/08/2017 18:24

sorry cross post - ps I miss Grimm! sorry off point and I still haven't rtft, apols

AdalindSchade · 01/08/2017 18:30

Jon is illegitimate though

AryaUnderfoot · 01/08/2017 18:52

Jon is illegitimate at the moment but there has always been a rumour that Rhaegar married Lyanna and took her as a second wife. In Dany's House of The Undying visions she saw Rhaegar telling Elia that he had to have a third child. It was common knowledge that Eiam Martell was 'delicate' and would not be able to have any more children after having Rhaenys and Aegon. Hence, Rhaegar went 'on the hunt' for a second bride.

If someone, somewhere finds evidence that Jon is legitimate then Dany's claim is rather trumped.

In showiverse that kind of stuff can be found lying around in, say, mouldy old scrolls in the Citadel...

AryaUnderfoot · 01/08/2017 18:54

Eiam = Elia. Bloody autocorrect!

yumyumpoppycat · 01/08/2017 19:08

moldy old scrolls like the ones sam is reprinting maybe Grin

AryaUnderfoot · 01/08/2017 19:39

Yes, yumyum, Chekhov's scrolls!

Get ready to forge the link of exposition Sam!

Trills · 01/08/2017 20:15

I didn't see the scrolls as a punishment, so much as "you are very meticulous, you will do a good job here".

I suspect that the reason he did so well with the greyscale cure was because he just followed the instructions and didn't try anything clever or think he knew better. Similarly, copying over books requires that you don't try to rewrite or edit or do anything arrogant.

I think Arya will kill Cersei wearing Jaime's face.

I hope that Jaime gets to redeem himself before he dies so Arya can wear his face.

Trills · 01/08/2017 20:16

I don't think that who is the legitimate heir of anything matters much any more.

Crowns are for those who can take them and hold them.

Paffle · 01/08/2017 20:20

Trills I am a lifelong Wars of the Roses enthusiast. I am a Yorkist and more precisely a Ricardian. I used to get very tied up in knots about who had the best claim to the throne. It was only watching GOT that made me reach exactly the same conclusion as you - doesn't matter who has the best claim; who can take and hold the throne. Richard III would have been a great king IMO but he couldn't hang on to the throne.

BossyBitch · 01/08/2017 20:23

I don't think that who is the legitimate heir of anything matters much any more.

I'll go a step further and say that I'd be rather disappointed if the whole series ended on a note of 'oh, well, so after a rather long and bloody interlude, the Targs have re-claimed what is rightfully theirs'.

It'd mostly piss me off because of how it'd legitimise a system where heredity is basically a good thing no matter what. So far, the series (both books and show) has done a decent job of questioning this assumption.

iklboo · 01/08/2017 20:23

I think Sam will also learn a lot copying the scrolls because he'll take it all in as he's reading it. It's a clever 'punishment'.
