Starts at 8pm this evening.
Anyone else planning to watch?

OP posts:

The mum was in casualty wasn't she? And that is an AWFUL accent. I could do better!

NotJanine · 16/06/2017 21:41

She was in Brookside

crumbsinthecutlerydrawer · 16/06/2017 21:51

I thought her acting was terrible because she was concentrating too hard on the accent. I'm out anyway, I thought I'd give it another go after last week but there's not much keeping me interested.

Davros · 17/06/2017 11:31

I'm enjoying it because DD (14) has decided it's a weekly date to watch together

Susiesue61 · 17/06/2017 11:40

Same here, DD and Ds1 are watching with me. DD loves it!! And Paul Nichols is lush

bonfireheart · 18/06/2017 00:25

Teenage pregnancy - tick
Homosexuality - tick
Affair - tick
Catfishing - tick
Still feels like they're shoe-horning too many "issues" into each episode.
And for someone who grew up listening to Adil Ray on the radio and absolutely loving him, I find him creepy and slimy in this. I thought he was awful in citizen khan but he's a whole other level of weirdness on this.

ASauvingnonADay · 18/06/2017 21:02

I actually quite enjoyed it 🙊 doesn't seem too far from some of the reality in school..

And Paul Nicholls is definitely hot!

bonfireheart · 20/06/2017 19:27

Paul Nicholls and his wife seem like such a miserable, unhappy couple who don't seem to like each other. He's cheated on her and had a kid with another woman. Now she's cheating on him. Surprisingly the young single dad is the best character/actor.

BubbleBed · 23/06/2017 14:08

What's her face from casualty playing Nas' mum is seriously grating on me. Her accent is absolutely shit. How the producers ever let it through?!?!

bonfireheart · 24/06/2017 00:12

Her accent is hilarious!!

Doobigetta · 24/06/2017 21:20

Can't comment on the accent, but I like the character. It makes a nice change to see an older Muslim woman who is sweary and irreverent.
I can't believe the dizzy English teacher is Annie from Life on Mars. I knew I recognised the silly voice, but I couldn't place her. Don't mean to be rude but she must have lost about half her body weight since then, she was quite solid in LoM, and now she's skinny as a rake.

bonfireheart · 25/06/2017 00:09

What I don't get is how did Mr Qureshi, go to prison, come back out, pass his CRB check and then get a job in a school! Especially a school in which all the kids are local, know his history and don't respect him because of it?

bonfireheart · 25/06/2017 00:10

Also why don't they keep playing romantic Bollywood music every time nas and her teacher get close to kissing. It's wrong on so many levels and not romantic at all.

JaneJeffer · 28/06/2017 20:14

Oh no what are they going to do with the dead granny?

Davros · 28/06/2017 22:11

DD loves AB and actually watches it with me on the night it's broadcast, not quite live but not far off

Groovee · 28/06/2017 22:35

Sobbing at Missy and Hayley being split up

GetHappy · 28/06/2017 22:43

Was so sad!

JaneJeffer · 28/06/2017 23:31

It was really sad Sad the older sister is a great actress.

I wonder why the head teacher's husband was so upset at her when he got someone else pregnant?

I need to learn everyone's names!

MrsSiba · 28/06/2017 23:42

I sobbed for the two girls. So much for Missy to cope with and I wonder how many child carers go through this. The teacher Emma leaving the ashes that she had paid for umprompted at Missy's door finished me off. It was so thoughtful. I'm not a teacher butt I have heard many go above and beyond to care for their students.

cheesydoesit · 29/06/2017 14:50

Catching up with episode 4. I cannot bloody stand that red headed admin woman. Everything I have seen her in she's played the same, irritating gormless simpleton. Seeing her nosy face hovering outside the glass window of the head's office drives me mad. And that business with the sports teacher and Lana, he accepted her rejections when she said she was a lesbian but not when he thought she was just disinterested and straight.

gingerbreadmam · 30/06/2017 15:15

i'm loving this reminds me of shameless. Love paul nicholls obvs and the mum. sure it's only 6 eps which is a shame because feels like it's just getting started.

bonfireheart · 01/07/2017 20:17

This show has actually got better with each episode. The acting by the teenagers is so moving.

FellOutOfBed2wice · 01/07/2017 20:27

The older Muslim lady from Brookside seems to be modelling her accent on the Dad in East is East. It's daft and full of Grange Hill style "ishoos" but I'm really enjoying it.

bonfireheart · 01/07/2017 22:56

I think Missy and Naz are superb actresses so I can forgive some of the barminess of the show.
Wonder which way they'll go with Jordan's paternity test. He really wants to be the dad but think he'll have his heart broken.

JaneJeffer · 01/07/2017 23:28

I thought that too Fell, he was always saying bloody.
