Dire Danny and his silly facial expressions. The build up to the kiss was so ridiculous.

The80sweregreat · 28/05/2017 12:10

I think people will switch off. The summer is coming when its harder to keep the viewers and by the autunm they will have forgotten to return.

Especially if the Max 'revenge on everyone ' is still rumbling on in 2019.
Dire Danny, another very apt nickname.

Theycalledmethewildrose · 28/05/2017 12:10

There isn't a minute of privacy in the Vic, yet they can kiss in an open doorway. Are they deliberately emphasising Whitney's age and the age gap by showing her running off crying ''you care more about Nancy'.

Ironically, Mick is behaving more immaturely than Whitney though.

The80sweregreat · 28/05/2017 12:13

Wild, precisely.
Its as though she wants to be caught out. Mick doesnt seem to care anymore either. His L let him down. Diddums.

MrsJayy · 28/05/2017 18:15

Not seen fridays yet but god this week has been just dire r this week just woeful only saving grace was minky dream and lovely Pam we yaaaayed when she came to the party I hope she gets bored with her retirement and comes back to the square.

Justanothersingledoutnumber · 28/05/2017 18:20

Remember when masood left.... but also kept showing up on the square in other peoples storylines?

That was a bit confusing, it has got so much worse since then.

Cary2012 · 28/05/2017 19:24

You're probably right 80's, in that at an adult exam centre they cut more slack, although I took one of my OU exams at a local adult centre and we were told to unwrap all sweets prior to the exam starting because in the previous exam a student had been asked to leave due to unwrapping sweets and chewing loudly! haha

Thing is, Eastenders doesn't assume any intelligence from us, so Dot says 'I promise I won't tell Charlie' in such an exaggerated way that we just know she'll tell someone else, and Denise has to laugh out loud, because it's assumed that a wry smile to herself would be too subtle for us to pick up on.

I know I'm getting older, but for me Eastenders has lost its charm. And I've watched it from the first episode, this is the worst 'lull' I can remember. This thread is keeping me watch it.

I can't be the only one who thinks, "can't wait to see the reaction on MN' after a really dodgy episode. xx

The80sweregreat · 28/05/2017 20:06

Cary, harsh exam conditions!
Yep, if it wasnt for my mn ladies , i would give EE the push.
Best thread ever. Shame about the soap.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 28/05/2017 20:14

Cary - v. good point about being treated as if we are stupid. One thing I love about really good TV actors (so the ones you get to know over a long period of time rather than the two hours you get in a film) is how good they get at communicating really subtly, so we can read the look in their eyes or a smile or a stare, and it says as much as three or four lines of dialogue. Clearly Eastenders - not in that place.

DH and I are rewatching The Mentalist with DS, and love how much Simon Baker can say without saying anything at all.

Theycalledmethewildrose · 28/05/2017 20:18

I agree about EE treating viewers as if they are all Daily Fail readers. If that is what they think of the audience, it is really insulting. EE has lost its draw for me too.

youarenotkiddingme · 28/05/2017 20:36

I've started watching it on iPad when I go to bed - I've usually read the thread by then so am well prepared for the crap I'll be watching!

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 28/05/2017 22:15

Agree, no subtlety at all on EE. Another example was James Hewitt's "mysterious" wooden box containing a gun. There were about 5 references to it and 25 close up lingering shots of the ruddy box.

Not sure about the new couple yet and how they'll slot in.

Denise laughing out loud in the exam was strange. I wondered if the lack of food had made her delirious or something Grin

southeastdweller · 28/05/2017 22:25

Like Cary I've watched since the very beginning and feel this is the worst period we're in now Sad. The gangster focus (Johnny Allen/Andy Hunter/Jack Dalton/Moon brothers) about twelve years ago was poor but at least that was sometimes exciting to watch not to mention drooling over Dennis

The80sweregreat · 29/05/2017 09:16

Andy Hunter - blimey that is a blast from the past there south! He was going to marry Kat- then Alfie stormed in the church and saved her.
I even read that the Queen was a fan of EE back then and wanted them to get together. Bless.
Now , of course , they are swanning around in Redwater..
Johnny Allen was a real hard nut - proper gangsters back then.

iknowimcoming · 29/05/2017 12:04

Agree - I saw Beppe from the olden days in casualty the other week and it brought back fond memories even though I can't really remember much of what they got up to (him and his brother Gianni) and he's still pretty fit Grin

The80sweregreat · 29/05/2017 12:21

I remember the mum , the boys were fit and run an Italian eatery. They were a miserable lot, the stories they were involved in I cant remember much though.

BlueThursday · 29/05/2017 12:54

Didn't beppe try to run off with Tiffany?

I'm sure I remember him also hooking up with lynne Hobbs (Slater)

Think also the mother, rosa I want to say, almost married uncle harry slater

The80sweregreat · 29/05/2017 13:01

Lynn, yes. She had an affair with Bebbe. She was married to Gary? He married a blond woman in the end and they went off on a boat ( Dawn? ) its very vague!

CorporalNobbyNobbs · 29/05/2017 13:24

I liked Gianni, Beppe's brother. He was going out with Jackie Owen (Martin Kemp's sister) and there was a domestic violence storyline.

BlueThursday · 29/05/2017 14:02

I do not remember steves sister at all; obviously left an impression on me Grin

The80sweregreat · 29/05/2017 15:25

was Gianni beating her up , or was she doing it to him?

I remember steve owen and Ian beale's ex wife - steve met a sticky end involving the Mitchells and a car being blown up or something. he also had a hand in a murder of a woman called Saskia and run a club. happy days.

MrsJayy · 29/05/2017 15:31

Remember when Shelia hancock was Steve's creepy mum ? Watched friday was that meant to be sexual tension between mick and Whit all i did was cringe christopher timothy and wife and gun what an odd pair they are

The80sweregreat · 29/05/2017 15:36

I don t like the new older couple, she seems weird and he is over friendly. If He has a huge secret ( not been used before eh?) you would think he would keep a low profile really - unless the gun is a red herring of some sort and he was a postman or something like that all his life with a clear history of doing nothing dodgy!
Which home did they move into?

MrsJayy · 29/05/2017 15:39

I think it looks like billys old flat in the inside but they walked in the front billys they had to walk downstairs

The80sweregreat · 29/05/2017 15:43

Billys old flat was in a basement.
Things change more on the square than the inside of a tardis.
