Was one of the best things I have seen in years and DH and I enjoyed it hugely but found each episode harrowing. We both worked in TV
and are not easily impressed. DS1 worked on Broken - he said it was a great shoot.

Spookle · 06/07/2017 17:10

Heartbreaking and wonderful all at the same time. Kudos to everyone involved but especially SB, he excelled himself.

MyOtherProfile · 06/07/2017 19:38

It is so odd though isn't it that it was lawful to fire at him, but his death was unlawful.
I wondered about this. I wonder if it's because the copper who pulled the trigger believed he was doing it for the right reasons or something.

Optimist1 · 06/07/2017 20:09

I thought that the verdictthat shooting was lawful was because the one who shot him took the appropriate action given what he actually saw happening (i.e. none of the spraying stuff, just Vernon bursting out of the house with a knife in his hand and ignoring the instructions to drop it). The spraying was deemed unlawful, though, and that's what caused Vernon to burst out of the house. Therefore his death was unlawful.

(Note : I have no legal qualifications, so could be entirely wrong!)

diddl · 06/07/2017 20:10

Perhaps it was becaused he followed procedure?

But he admitted that he shot twice although he didn't mean toHmm

stonecircle · 06/07/2017 20:53

I'm sure Optimist is right.

NotYoda · 07/07/2017 06:36

I can't stop thinking about this series. Was just telling DS2 about it and started crying again.

It wasn't perfect but it so much heart

teddygirlonce · 07/07/2017 17:51

One of the best drama I've seen in a long, long while. And Sean Bean was just beyond brilliant (and I'm not usually a fan!). Hope the series and SB get lots of awards.

Boswellox · 07/07/2017 18:30

Thanks for response TheSecondOfHerName. I suppose the dream sequence with him and her on the beach (IIRC) was the closet we got to an explanation then.

Boswellox · 07/07/2017 18:30

um closest, even.

Pantryboy · 13/07/2017 22:15

Just saw episode 5 of this and can't wait to watch the last one. This has been one of the very best written and acted drama I have seen in a long while. Sean Bean was just amazing as were the others. I hope the second series has already been commissioned .

MyOtherProfile · 14/07/2017 07:08

You're in for a treat Pantry.
I still don't think there will be a second series though.

Pantryboy · 14/07/2017 22:55

Not watched it yet am desperate to watch it , My I hope there is another series this was so good!

Sobfest. So so good. All the awards! I'm no crier but this had me in tears nearly every week. Brilliantly written and acted.

PantPlot · 15/07/2017 22:39

We've just watched the last episode. My only criticism would be that the last scene is a tad schmaltzy- but hey it worked, because both DH and I were openly sobbing (now kind of tired and sniffy and avoiding eye contact Grin)

Sean Bean in this was absolutely magnificent. I've never really rated him before (Patriot Games?) but the subtlety with which he managed to convey so many emotions in this, is staggering. Not least in this last episode, when he didn't flashback in the Consecration- he never broke his words, he didn't change his tone but you could tell he was surprised, relieved and almost victorious. Brilliant stuff

NormaSmuff · 22/07/2017 07:32

just finished this.
how fantastic was this
so very good.

also point at the inquest hoped that policeman would mention dawn's phone call, or was it visit, to him.

just heart warming and tear inducing

Procrastination4 · 22/07/2017 08:58

I finished watching it last week, and had deleted all the episodes I'd watched except the 3rd and last, but now I've restored them all again, as I know I'll want to watch it again. (I also LOVED the incidental music throughout, and think it really added to it.)

NormaSmuff · 22/07/2017 08:59

to think i didnt want to watch it in the beginning after it seemed so depressing
