I watch about zero tv but so excited that this is back for another series! 10 minutes !

OP posts:
Iamtheresurrection · 04/04/2017 22:50

The ending makes me want the next series.

So sad to see Carrie though.

Graphista · 04/04/2017 22:57

So sad tonight.

Bit annoyed they played a drink driving scene as if we're supposed to feel sympathy for a drunk driver! Angry

MrsJamin · 05/04/2017 07:26

I don't like where they've taken this series, haven't found it very funny or true to life.

TheLegendOfBeans · 05/04/2017 07:38

Think this series redeemed itself right at the 11th hour.

Still think they've made Sharon's character just that bit too annoying though. Dial it back.

tribpot · 05/04/2017 09:48

Graphista, I didn't read the drink driving scene as us meant to have sympathy with Rob - just the inevitable downward spiral of the active alcoholic.

Sharon has definitely been too annoying this season, and Chris and Fran too much like caricatures.

Also very sad to see Carrie.

spiderlight · 05/04/2017 10:36

That last couple of minutes last night were intense! I hadn't realised how badly he'd relapsed though - hadn't picked up on the cheese aond onion crisp references etc.

HollyJollyDillydolly · 05/04/2017 10:41

Oh no, Rob! He probably didn't expect to have to get Sharon and felt bad that she was upset about her dad so went to pick her up. Not that I'm excusing drink drivers. Thought that was a good episode, totally missed the other secret drinking hints.

daimbardiva · 05/04/2017 12:16

I was the same - the hidden drinking hints were too subtle for me until the last couple of episodes, but v well done though. I haven't found this series so laugh out loud funny but dh and I have both still really enjoyed it - particularly the dialogue between Sharon and Rob as they go to bed. It's really shining through this time how they actually do really love and like each other. Ending was quite heartbreaking as despite his flaws Rob, as Sharon said, he's a good person.

Also sad to see Carrie Fisher - she was great in it.

My only slight niggle is where are their kids half the time - I read an interview with Sharon H that said they didn't want the kids to be central which is why they're not on screen a lot but there was one episode where they were discussing how childcare was an issue for them but most of the time the kids were nowhere to be seen! Maybe I am just being pedantic!

Overall I loved it though and will miss it and look forward to next series.

cuirderussie · 05/04/2017 16:02

It was pretty uneven but I loved the last episode. Love her relationship with her brother. A tiny niggle, very few Irish people Sharon's age come from such a small family and that funeral would be MASSIVE in real life, I guess extras cost Grin

Graphista · 05/04/2017 17:05

The kids - that's a common issue with tv shows with children, child characters aren't seen much due to the child working rules but surely in this day and age they can use sound effects etc to make them seem more 'present'

I wonder if it's those of us with personal experience of alcoholism that noticed the signs earlier?

I liked Robs mums reaction to his confession (though plenty will disagree), giving him a bollocking for being an idiot and starting drinking again.

Totally agree with the pp who said about addicts (not just alcoholics) having more 'problems in life' than others and it's never their fault. Eg that situation with the French colleague was very poorly handled (which absolutely does not excuse her shitty behaviour).

Graphista · 05/04/2017 17:09

Cuird yes I thought that too! Whenever there's an event in my family (Irish-scots Catholics) I always end up meeting at least half a dozen relatives I didn't know I had! And there's bloody hundreds of us! Grin the last funeral we had the deceased wanted it in a small chapel that had meaning for her but it was like sardines packed in!!

Did you also find it really weird everyone buggered off straight after the funeral? Again not my experience, days later you're trying to get rid of people so you're not still making umpteen pots of tea and sandwiches

tribpot · 05/04/2017 18:05

I think it's perhaps because they had to rush through the funeral to get on to the set piece finale. Bizarrely after weeks of almost nothing happening, they cram in two big things at the end. It feels a bit as if they had enough material for one season but decided to try and stretch it over two.

MrsLogicFromViz · 06/04/2017 08:48

I'm still reeling about the car crash too and agree - where are the kids? Why is their bed against the party wall?

I sincerely hope that S4 is the last, although saying that, Peep Show lasted for 9 series.

tribpot · 06/04/2017 10:08

Agreed - they could do with moving time on again as they did between S1 and S2.

desperatehousewife2 · 08/04/2017 18:21

Christ but Sharon annoys me in it. Everything she does annoys me now, the last scene where he collected her and she had her feet on the dashboard and insisted on getting pizza and then nearly got knocked down, gah!!!!! I could never be friends with her in real life.

tribpot · 08/04/2017 19:00

No - mind you, her friends are all bloody awful as well.

I can understand why Horgan and Delaney don't want to write their characters to be too sympathetic but sheesh. I had the same problem with Divorce - everyone in it was just too dreadful.

EachandEveryone · 13/04/2017 01:21

Ypu see i think Divorce will be better this season. It has to be the amount of good actors it has in it and the money spent on it. I hope so anyway.

GinSwigmore · 13/04/2017 01:58

I liked Divorce but it was dramedy...without, for me, any edy.
and shave off that tache ffs

EachandEveryone · 13/04/2017 03:00

They were on Upper Street she could've got a cab in minutes how selfish to her him to come out

RozTheSchnoz · 13/04/2017 22:50

I so wanted to like Divorce but really struggled and ended up giving up before the end...

EachandEveryone · 14/04/2017 09:41

I keep thinking it had teething problems and maybe this time round if will be better. I hate to say it but i think it would've benefited from an American writer.

GinSwigmore · 14/04/2017 10:20

^ But that's how they did it. Sharon created the show and wrote the pilot but then it was team writing round a table.
The problem was it was meant to be like War of the roses (Michael Douglas/Kathleen Turner) which tbh I also don't find that funny. Divorce isn't that funny, acrimonious divorce especially.

EachandEveryone · 14/04/2017 10:29

Bless him. The husband never looked her type did he? I think that was part of it! It does get good reviews im going to give it another chance. I would love to live in a little town like that.

MaryPoppinsPenguins · 18/04/2017 17:41

Is this not on anymore??

doge · 18/04/2017 18:33

Last week's was the last in the current series
