Miriam has had a TON of work, surely

She started having work done years ago - I remember seeing her decades back when she was a TV regular with a very stretched face - but it appears to have paid off!

Nicely coloured and cut hair and carefully applied make up also help.

I absolutely love Amanda Barrie (I crossed paths with her through work a few years back and she is a lovely woman in real life - no airs and graces - just a thoroughly down to earth and gracious person) but her hair in this looks like a bog brush! No offence Amanda!

I dunno, I think she has the classic ventriloquist's-dummy look.

She's not as scary as the people in the Real Marigold on Tour in Florida though.

Love this show.

Agree that thus bunch aren't as high maintenance. They seem to be getting on with having fun.

I just hope I am as sprightly when I get into my 70s and 80s.

She does a bit, around the mouth, but her hair is a revelation (and they showed lots of shots of her brushing and styling it, so I don't doubt it's real) and goes a long way to making her look more youthful.

Also her style of dress, the floaty, cheese cloth type tops and so on (Amanda and Sheila wear the same) it's just so far away from someone I know in my own life who is 81.

All in all, I think they are a likeable bunch. Very different, obviously not all perfect, but I think they have cast this a lot better than the first series - there is no real dominant or difficult personality and the spectrum of personality types is much broader.

Some of them have their problems obviously and behavioural aspects that maybe not everyone would like - Bill and Lionel spring to mind, and also Sheila.

But there's no-one on this series who I dislike. I admire them all for being as old as they are, for their fortitude and positivity, and just because it's great to see people in their 7th, 8th and 9th decades of life ... still open to new experiences and still ... well, living!

Just read my last post back and it sounds awfully patronising.

I didn't mean it like that of course, but don't really know how to word what I am trying to convey.

It's just that I come from a generation when 40 was 'old' and the women in my family, had grey curly perms and wore hand knitted cardigans and sensible skirts and shoes. I have a photo of my mum's aunt aged 56 in the 1960s, and she looks 86 by today's standards. I realise times were harder and life was different, but for those of us growing older now ... seeing programmes like this does raise the spirits a bit.

I get you it is fine you didn't sound that patronising ☺ I had a thought Lionel is technically old enough to be Dennis Taylors dad so the spectrum of old age is vast . I agree these are a better mix of people than the last lot, and a lot less self absorbed

I think Dennis is too young to be on the show really.

Any programmes that can help dispel the awful stereotypes of older people are great.

Tbf he is retiring age and a good age to move and live out his retirement he has young kids though 9 &11 i think he said so canf see him moving to india any time soon

Why is he too young?! He's a 68 year old pensioner and isn't even the youngest on the show

Just watched the second series where they go to the temple at Madurai. Makes me feel v nostalgic for India, such a beautiful, exciting place!

it's a really good show though that aside.

I take back what I said about Dennis then! I thought he was the youngest. I think it was because he's got young children, he doesn't seem to be at the same stage of life as the others.

Rusty doesn't seem to have featured much.

Have to say that amanda Barrie with wrinkles and lighter hair looks much better than dark hair and wind tunnel skin. Miriam looks quite scary because her face is so expressionless.

No it isn't. Show where there is any record of him having a relationship with a man? Any man. Common knowledge where?

He's been married to the same woman for 47 years and has three grown up children.

There has always been speculation that he is gay because of his mannerisms etc. but not a shred of anything to back it up.

Lionel certainly does not " bat for both sides" - my neighbour has known him for years, and says he is as straight as they come. Appearances and manner mean nothing.

Lionel is very camp he is a dancer and entertainer they are all kinda camp but I did think he was gay or i was surprised he was married to a woman just goes to show you can't always assume anything. Amanda Barrie is gay and got married to a woman at 79
