Anyone watching ? Paul Nicholas is 72 and Lionel Blair 87!

OP posts:
SoupDragon · 16/02/2017 15:44

I must say it's not something that I've ever really thought about, I just assumed and moved on.

AgathaF · 16/02/2017 16:02

I was shocked at how old they were too. They all look great. Amazed that Lionel Blair is married.

I think Sheila is the one who'd get on my nerves the most. I'm sure she's lovely, but goodness me, she likes the sound of her own voice! Rusti taking over the kitchen too Shock. The chef must have been grinding his teeth.

NotJanine · 18/02/2017 11:32

With a hat on Paul didn't look that old. He has a lovely friendly face.

Sheila sounded quite sad and lonely. Sad

Miriam has had a lot of work done. She looked like she was struggling to open her mouth to eat. I haven't seen her on telly for years and didn't recognise her.

NotJanine · 18/02/2017 11:33

And Lionel is in great shape. I can't imagine many 87 year olds who would be off to stay in India for a few weeks

DeterminedToChange · 18/02/2017 11:38

Lionel was suffering, though, wasn't he? I think at first the trip was really taking it out of him. He's my mum's age and it's one thing being great for your age when you're just pottering around in your own local area, but even just the travelling and the jet lag would be horrendous for him. It was interesting that he thought he would be going to a part of India that wasn't poor, and he was calling it a shanty town when it was very, very far from that.

I was very unimpressed with Rusty. Instead of watching what the Indian cooks were doing she insisted on showing them what was what - not a great attitude in a traveller.

SoupDragon · 18/02/2017 12:31

Rusty was cooking one of her dishes though wasn't she? Rather than learning something new I mean.

NotJanine · 18/02/2017 12:53

I imagine she was told to do it

NotJanine · 18/02/2017 12:53

By the programme makers

happypoobum · 18/02/2017 21:07

I really enjoyed it. Have never been inclined to visit India but really keen to visit Kerala now it looks fabulous.

Agree Miriam looks very plastic - Amanda Barrie looks brilliant and more natural. I met Paul Nicholas in RL last year and was shocked at how old he looked.

Rusty was rather rude in the kitchen yes, but I think Sheila is brilliant. I think she is quite open about the fact that she lives alone and sometimes spends whole weeks without interacting with anyone so this must be a really stressful experience for her.

MrsJayy · 19/02/2017 12:01

We watched this yesterday really enjoyed it Rustie was a bit ott the poor cook looked exasperated with her and Shelia is very chatty and loud for somebody who likes her own company. Lionel blair not gay suprised me I always assumed he was. You know everytime Paul is on screen he is in his playboy underpants Grin

MrsJayy · 19/02/2017 12:05

I thought Miriam was Arlene Phillips for split second she has had quite a bit done I think

happypoobum · 22/02/2017 21:34

Did anyone else think it was a bit odd that when Amanda went to the hospital she didn't take Dr.Miriam Stoppard with her?

Jungfraujoch · 22/02/2017 21:39

I'm falling in love with Paul all over again! He may look and is much older but when he smiles he's back to that cheeky Vince again!

MrsJayy · 22/02/2017 22:07

Paul is a handsome bugger his smile is lovely ☺ i think Miriam is there as herself not a Dr so i dont seecwhy amanda would take her think the rest were getting checkups. Im really enjoying it that temple was breathtaking.

ChuckSnowballs · 22/02/2017 22:07

I worked out he just needs to have his hair dead short. It's the lankiness that is doing my head in.

Not sure I wanted to know about Bill Oddie's 'problems' or see Lionel's tummy massage to be honest. I can't get Bill Oddie's hand massages out of my head. Bleurgh.

SealSong · 22/02/2017 22:25

Lionel's stomach massage was very unappealing to watch, and I really did not need to know about Bill Oddie's droopy dick problems Confused

Did enjoy seeing them in Madurai; I've been there and it's an amazing place.

ChuckSnowballs · 22/02/2017 22:35

Ooh has little birdie found a worm. Oh little birdie tries to pull the worm and it just won't come out...keep pulling little birdie.

NormaSmuff · 22/02/2017 23:24

glad i didnt see it tonight Hmm

Clawdy · 23/02/2017 11:32

I remember Lionel appearing on a show called Whose Baby?
Many years ago. His children were with him, and I remember thinking what a lovely dad he was.

Susiesoap7 · 23/02/2017 11:46

Felt so sorry for Lionel with his big tummy, it must be awful when you used to be a brill dancer and he probably can't do that now, wish someone would sort it for him. I wanted someone to get a pin and stick it in so it would pop!

Justmuddlingalong · 23/02/2017 11:51

When Paul wears a hat and smiles, I find myself thinking 'Yip, still would'. Grin

Smidge001 · 23/02/2017 23:41
Grin
MrsJayy · 24/02/2017 09:37

I think Paul is ageing really well. He has good bones and teeth. His body and frame are what make him look old; rather frail.

Miriam has had a TON of work, surely?

Sheila was annoying at first but calmed down ever so slightly. NB I've only watched the first one.

Nice to see Lionel reconsider his 'shanty town' knee-jerk response!

The housekeeper/host (I can't remember her name – Smita??) is terrific.
