Just catching it on iplayer, call me cynical but in the opening bit Mel said "thousands auditioned and we invited" which sounds to me like a get out clause for "we trawled YouTube/Instagram like all these shows do to choose people to be in it".

We watched this and enjoyed it, but we are not fans of Take That, so we'll see how it progresses as I don't want to listen to an hour of a Take That tribute act, which is what it may turn in to.
The BBC were criticised when they had the Joseph/Maria/Nancy programmes because they were basically an 8 week advert for the forthcoming musical which would star the series winner. It seems that they are doing the same here, although we have the odd claim that the Band will be generic although they will be singing Take That songs.

Just watched this and quite enjoyed it. Think I liked the first and last singers the best. I would have been interested to hear what Simon Cowell comments would have been on the final,singer. I think Amber (?) summed it up . Ie. Usually dismissive of people who attempt Whitney, but he nailed it and 'made it his own' to coin an x-factor phrase.

I remember the criticism about musicals, but surely the same could be said about thenX-factor,creating a commercial pop,star.

DS (6) and I enjoyed it. DS absolutely loved the start. I like watching any old crap.

I can confirm that it was crap.

Am a massive fan of musicals and LOVED the Joseph / Maria / Dorothy / Nancy shows so was looking forward to this.

But it was awful - badly edited, slow-paced and with mostly weak singers.

I like Graham, Mel, Martin and Amber but as it stands I'm not sure we'll keep watching.

On the other hand, caught up with The Voice tonight; fast forwarded through the ads and really enjoyed it!

There is quite a high turnover of performers in Thriller. He very likely only has a 6 or 12 month contract which couod be coming to an end. West End performers are always auditioning. Made me laugh when they asked him if he had anyone to support him in the audience. It was obvious he was treating it as just another audition.

Martin kemp was on sunday brunch yesterday morning and they asked him about any professional singers doing auditions, he was very tight lipped, kept on saying it was ' Gary's show' ! ( passing the buck!!)
