'The Young Pope' - is there a thread yet?

I am riveted.
And I am imagining how much fun the writer/s must have had writing the dialogue.
And whoever wrote/chose the music is a genius.

I have no faith and do not have a Catholic background, and yet find myself quite unsettled by Pius XIII.
I think we have yet to figure out whether his a Good or a Bad character.

What do you all think?

My favourite bit was the dream homily in Episode 1 Grin

Aaaaaarrrrrrggghhhhhh is nobody watching??? I need to talk about episode 8!!!!!!

BaggyCheeks · 16/12/2016 21:41

I'm halfway through episode 8 Smile We got 8 and 9 last night!

BroomstickOfLove · 16/12/2016 21:46

I'm watching, but am a few episodes behind, so can't join in. I've been praising it to everyone I know, but nobody else seems to watch it. I had a sex dream about the (Jude Law) Pope last week, which was quite disturbing.

BroomstickOfLove · 16/12/2016 21:51

I've only got as far as the speech to the Cardinals with the blingy papal tiara and red gloves, so I will have to ignore this thread until I've seen it all.

gaggiagirl · 16/12/2016 21:55

Yes broomstick it's very spoilery! How come we get 2 episodes this week? Is it because of Xmas telly?
baggy I feel confused at episode 8 but also there are lovely moments in it.

SiennaNealon · 16/12/2016 21:56

I've watched it all and loved it. Not a fan of Jude Law usually but he was excellent in this. Great finale, I'm trying to persuade oh to watch so I can see it all again.

BaggyCheeks · 16/12/2016 22:15

Sienna Is ep 9 a double length one?? I would check but DP is hogging the telly.

I'll probably get a chance to watch it after Strictly tomorrow, provided DD goes to her bed. It's not the best TV for toddlers Grin

gaggiagirl · 16/12/2016 22:24

Episode 9 is 50 ish minutes long.
Jude law is absolutely incredible in this. I've bubbled at various parts of the last two episodes.
I dont understand why we didn't see Lenny crack after Dussolier died yet he's shown true emotion and grief in these episodes.

SiennaNealon · 16/12/2016 22:53

Someone was chopping onions here too.

Put your phones down and give them your full attention.

Sad
PacificDogwod · 17/12/2016 03:34

Aw, crap, what have I missed??
Sad

Pacific catch up you must! I think the story and character development have really accelerated in the latter episodes. There are some beautiful moments.
I love Lenny.

PacificDogwod · 18/12/2016 10:33

I think I need to watch episode 9 again - we had it on on Thursday night but I was writing Christmas cards distracted at the time. I know, I know: must try harder Blush

I love Saint Lenny too.

gaggiagirl · 19/12/2016 16:47

Why did it say THE END at the end of episode 9?it didn't say that at the end of the other episodes. Hmmmmm.
I cannot wait for Thursday now.
My best bit was Saint Lenny calling his staff into the dining room to tell them he loved them.

PacificDogwod · 19/12/2016 22:06

I've just reviewed Ep 9: so Lenny is an actual saint then, yes?
Or at least can do miracles?
It makes some of his other views even harder to take although the biblical quotes about miscarriage and induced abortion are fascinating, if IMO in keeping with the time in which they were written in. By humans. By human men. So I feel free to take them with a pinch of salt.

And not enough Viello in that episode.

Gaggia that was the last one. Finale. The end

SiennaNealon · 19/12/2016 23:31

Game of Thrones is on this week. The episodes were longer than an hour. I'd love to be wrong and hope it's back after Xmas.

gaggiagirl · 20/12/2016 04:43

Awwwwww. I thought it was a 10 episode run. Well I can't wait to see season 2!!
Totally agree we need more Voiello. He looked so sad waving that helicopter off.

I want justice for the kangaroo too!

gaggiagirl · 20/12/2016 04:47

Yes Pacific he is a Saint in the churches eyes because he has performed 3 verified miracles.
I've warmed to Lenny hugely, he has started to seem so fragile.

BroomstickOfLove · 11/01/2017 08:05

I have one episode left to watch, and have the most enormous crush on Lenny. I just realised that he never followed through on his threats to the Italian Prime Minister, and that this has never been mentioned.

Have just binge watched The Young Pope - what an extraordinary series, never seen anything like it.

Not a fan of Jude Law but he really owned it.

Was largely baffled throughout as to whether he was a genuine religious conservative or trying to destroy the Church from within by stating ‘offensive’ views against homosexuality, abortion, gentle inclusiveness etc. Then whether he was a saint (or evil). Or just borderline deranged

MyrtlethePurpleTurtle · 16/08/2022 23:57

And such a prima donna Pope - cherry Diet Coke anyone?
