Yes I watched it I thought it was jolly good.

I have been binge watching Deutschland 83 this week because I didn't see it when it was on first time around and absolutely loved it.

It was good

Menstruator - oh lucky you! I wish I still had 83 to look forward to. The acting is superb and I especially like the performances by Alex the pacifist soldier and Alexander Beyer who plays Tischbier.
In real life the GDR infiltrated the military and the government at the highest level - for example Chancellor Willy Brandt resigned after it was revealed one of his closest aides was an undercover Stasi operative.

I have been excited for ages cos it was coming back! Unfortunately I was at my friend's so could see it but not hear it as she was talking at me the whole time. I tried to find an excuse to leave early. I wouldn't mind but she is able to watch again. I can't!

I agree. Also maybe a 2002 could be made about life there shortly after reunification.

I have now watched 3 and a half episodes. This programme 's flaw to me is that it assumes we know more about Angola than your average person! I don't even imagine most watching Germans knew all this stuff! I ended up distracting myself googling Angola whilst watching , which kind of meant I missed a chunk of subtitling! I'll stick at it but it hurts my head a bit too much.

It is definitley not as entertaining as 83.

Nor did I know about ‘KoKo’ - Kommerzielle Koordinierung - the secret scheme for raising hard currency for the increasingly broke East Germany. It arranged among other things, illegal arms deals and sold political prisoners to the West.
The Nazis appropriated works of art from collectors but East Germany were more subtle; if they got wind of a valuable work of art in private hands they didn’t take it as the Nazis had done, rather the owner received a huge tax bill so they had to sell the painting to pay it.

And I've got A Level German and have read East German literature
