For those who loved it last time, will you watch after the let down of the ending? (Well I felt it was a let down, don't think there was a proper conclusion at all and still room for doubts as to whether he was still alive or not).

I loved it though and will definitely be watching the next series. I've seen the trailer and it looks very very good. Julian (think that was his name) is still in it. Looks like it is based on JayCee Dugard/Elizabeth Fritz type cases where they have gone missing as children and reappeared years later.

Cannot wait!

Alice was skipping off school for a reason and I think her tattoo was a mark. Her brother was aware of the arguments in the house. He didn't look a happy bunny as a wee boy.

Lillian not a ridiculous theory at all!

EnthusiasmDisturbed · 20/10/2016 11:16

How old do you think Sophie is in the video ? I though she looked about 10 but I wasn't taking much notice as I was looking at her hands

MiddleClassProblem · 20/10/2016 11:17

Are they meant to be the same age or the SAMs age when taken? Either way she'd be 10 or 11

Rollergirl1 · 20/10/2016 12:02

I don't know why people keep trying to link the Brigadier's pregnant daughter in 2014 with Alice/Sophie. The timelines don't match. If Sophie was indeed pregnant prior to her being abducted at the age of 11 in 2003 how can the policewoman being 8 months pregnant in 2014 have any correlation? And if the girl who returns had very recently given birth (to fit in with brigadier's daughters pregnancy) wouldn't it be very obvious to the doctors?

Julian mentions the abductor had a specific type of girl. Brigadiers daughter also the same "type" if the type is dark hair, pale skin, big eyes. In first episode there was also talk of a sister that hasn't been mentioned since. Now that it's been inferred that brigadier is involved in some way could the daughters be involved in some way?

FoxesOnSocks · 20/10/2016 12:34

Yes what was that comment about being able to see about!?

Was there clues in series 2 opening edits or something? I ask in response to a comment upthread about watching them closrky

(,I'm sticking with this thread out of the three going too. The orginak and all that,)

MiddleClassProblem · 20/10/2016 12:43

There's just lots of imagery in the titles, some we know and some might mean something later? But prob can't decipher anything by just watching it

Ciutadella · 20/10/2016 12:51

foxes I think Alice was saying yes I do recognise you - ie I saw you when I was being kept captive. The implication is that he was part of a group of men who visited the 'prison' when she was kept prisoner, I think.

Or at least, that may be what we are supposed to think at the moment.

Aldi/butcher lady became surprisingly unsympathetic to Daniel, considering how recently his father had died - and she suggested herself that she was not very popular! But I have no theories as to why Daniel's father would have written about her in the diary, or the significance of the entries stopping when he was in Iraq in 1991..

FoxesOnSocks · 20/10/2016 13:05

Just thought. She said to the butcher (in 2014) something about doing research because she was coming over as she was interested in a butcher. But if she'd been in the army (as what? MP?) Wouldn't she have been over already? Though we don't know the length of their relationship do we (?). Its possible she met/saw him when she was there as army. Left army, went home, came back as a civilian. Her history if rank or reason for leaving is unknown. Maybe she was MP and Daniel's dad was in trouble (AWOL orc something)and that's why she wouldn't be portrayed in a good light in diary.

SarahJessicaParkersLostCurls · 20/10/2016 13:12

Longtime lurker on the Series One thread and this one...absolutely gripped! My question: in 2014, is Sophie's father still alive? If Baptiste suspects Alice is really Sophie why doesn't he just get Sophie's dad to come and have a look at her?

I agree with posters that say you would know your own daughter. This 'Alice' has very distinctive eyes, nose (upturned, slight bump in it) and lips - I would know if she was my daughter or not straight away! You would know as soon as you clapped eyes on her, surely??

Ciutadella · 20/10/2016 13:15

Good point foxes - though why would she go to his funeral if they were on bad terms?
I thought it a bit unlikely that alice would be able to find the way back to the woodland 'prison' - there were no obvious landmarks, she was very ill when escaped, and couldnt remember how long she had walked. Its also not that easy to find the way when you've only done it in the opposite direction before. Did someone upthread suggest she had been instructed by her captor to bring them to this location?

Superdinocharge · 20/10/2016 14:02

I'm think there is a peadophile ring and the brigadier, Henry, Aldi woman and whoever got Sophie pregnant is involved.

PollyPerky · 20/10/2016 14:49

If it's any consolation to all your Sherlocks, this series has got some fairly lukewarm reviews in the Times and Telegraph. They both said, too complicated plot, writers toying with us, and they were only going to watch because of the cast- KH and DM.

I can't be arsed to speculate too much because it's clearly very contrived and there will be loads of red herrings for the poor viewer.

MiddleClassProblem · 20/10/2016 14:54

I don't think all people who go to funerals are on good terms particularly in fiction. It's like making sure their gone.

Foxes we know she was in the army on 91 and she could have been posted anywhere. She could have met butcher just before retiring and heading home from Germany, she could have met him as a civilian and coincidence led her baby k to the same town as Henry which I doubt. We don't know how long she's been with him but it doesn't seem long by how little he knows about her like doing research.

Maybe she was racially abusive to Henry, maybe they were lovers, maybe she suspected butcher was a paedophile and was doing some extreme recon mission in her head?

The only thing I'm sure of is that I don't have any answers and an unlikely too for the next few eps Grin

CatchIt · 20/10/2016 15:14

I don't understand why people were so disappointed with the 1st series.

Reading about the Ben Needham case, it reminded me of that. Child goes missing, parents automatically assume he's been abducted whereas the truth is he was killed and someone kept it a secret. Parents have no idea. I thought it was excellent and really, really sad.

giraffesCantReachTheirToes · 20/10/2016 16:10

I loved the first series. This too. Am hooked. Can't wait for next week.

Scarydinosaurs · 20/10/2016 16:16

Watching episode two for the second time now!

Lots of good developments- pleased with the way the story is headed at the moment!

I feel certain the baby isn't Alice's father's.

Brigadier soldier Alzheimer Eve's dad is clearly a nasty man- but why does Alice/Sophie not expose him? Does she fear that if she does her own crimes will be exposed/more children killed? Hmmm.

ALSO- those that said he had a 'type' is it significant that Alice/Sophie/Eve all look remarkably similar?

MiddleClassProblem · 20/10/2016 16:21

Maybe Eve's baby was poorly or had a condition? I do think it was for her sister though so maybe it's just about her mixed feelings for it/missing it? Sam doesn't stole me as someone who wants to talk too much about emotions particularly in therapy

MiddleClassProblem · 20/10/2016 16:42

I wonder if Aldi helped brigadier frame the butcher not knowing what for because brigadier has something on her from Henry and he had to frame someone because Sophie needed releasing because she was ill? He might not have treated the girls well but not to the point that he would let them die. Still can't see him driving the camper van though...

Scarydinosaurs · 20/10/2016 16:45

Did anyone else think they made a big deal out of Sam's vintage car- and that is was similar in a way to the vintage camper van that picked up Alice?

giraffesCantReachTheirToes · 20/10/2016 16:59

I had to fast forward the bits when baptistery and beady journo were driving. Too scary for me! I am a wimp.

FoxesOnSocks · 20/10/2016 17:07

Possibly it's Alice/Sophie's baby that they have over her. The baby (if as speculated she was pregnant when kidnapped) would be 10 now.

Bolognaise · 20/10/2016 17:09

What was baptistes mistake? Why did Sophie's mum kill herself? Was it because baptiste blames or exposes Sophie as an imposter pretending to be alice? When in fact Alice is actually Alice? That's my next theory

Scarydinosaurs · 20/10/2016 17:10

giraffe Grin

Ohhh maybe?

Is there some connection to Eve's baby?

Scarydinosaurs · 20/10/2016 17:11

bolog didn't Sophie's mother kill herself before Alice/Sophie returns? She was already dead.

EnthusiasmDisturbed · 20/10/2016 17:17

I thought the first series was one of the most moving things I have ever seen on TV (that is a drama)

It showed a parent who could not accept what had happened it was too painful and the impact on his mental health it was fantastically acted I felt quite drained after watching it

back to this series

I am confused but enjoying it more than I am The Fall

I don't mind there are red herrings its makes it more interesting so no need for The Telegraph to feel sorry for the poor viewer
