Currently watching Who Took Johnny on Netflix having resurrected my previous crime doc obsession.

Can any recommend any good (I use that term loosely as obviously they're not good!) ones to watch? We don't have sky (annoyingly as I want to watch the JonBenet one)but I have Netflix, prime and now tv.

I can only watch when DP is out as he hates them. I then cack myself over every noise in the house for ages but I can't stop watching them Blush

I've watched the recently aired 2 part CBS documentary/investigation of the JonBenet case. Is that the one you're after? It's on you tube. There are loads on there but the CBS one is called The Case of: JonBenet Ramsey. Each part is about 1 hr 20 minutes.

If you like that kind of thing I can really recommend some crime based podcasts? Serial season 1 and 2. Season 1 is the case of Adnan Syed and if you like it listen to a related podcast called Undisclosed where 3 lawyers investigate that case further. It's very compelling.

Real Crime Profile is hosted by Laura Richards (behaviour analyst) and Jim Clemente (retired FBI profiler) and they discuss various cases inc OJ Simpson. They are behind the CBS documentary too on JonBenet Ramsey.

Radio 4 did a series called Who Killed Elsie Frost? Other podcasts I've listened to and enjoyed are: Criminal, Someone Knows Something, Breakdown, Crime Writers On ......

Also, The dramatisation of the OJ Simpson case that was shown on BBC 2 was quite good.

i don't like them too grisly in detail and prefer the emphasis to be on the investigation, iyswim.

There's a list here. n4bb.com/making-murderer-like-documentaries-best-crime-documentaries/

The Jinx is very, very good.

Deux · 23/09/2016 15:53

Oh and Paradise Lost.

I'm guessing I've got a thing about these too. Blush

This should keep me going a while! Thanks for all the suggestions.

Are there any decent books on similar subjects? Then I can get my fix whilst DP is home too Smile

The Jon- benet documentary is on demand on Sky at the moment . If you like the Snapped type programmes Snapped killer post is on one of the Tru channels and that's quite good , it was on last night at 11pm . I can also recommend Homicide Hunter , it's really good and Joe Kenda is brilliant .

MabelSideswipe · 23/09/2016 16:09

I second 'There's something wrong with Aunt Diane'. Its really well made. Also Capturing the Friedman's which is also on YouTube. Could also try 'The House of Suh - a good son is committed for life.'.

There is 'Just Melvin, Just Evil'. Do check out what it about first though as it is about a disturbing topic but not gratuitous and intelligently made.

JUst FYI. There are loads of JBR docs out or coming out right now. The one on Sky isn't the CBS one.

It's the CBS one that's gained a lot of traction (and threats of law suits) because of the high profile and credible reputation of the experts involved eg the guy who caught the Unabomber. Plus they have a very clear hypothesis and stateI won't say anymore! It's also being dissected in great detail too on Real Crime Profile podcast.

Worthwhile watching Dateline JonBenet Ramsey on you tube to get background before watching the CBS one.

JesusDontWantMeForASunbeam · 23/09/2016 16:30

I have quite a lot of background on JBR. I've watched most of the docs on it and read a lot of studies during my gcses on it (English essay on the case). I've found the new one online so that shall be watched soon!

I googled the CBS one earlier and their hypothesis was one I think could be likely from what I remember of the case. Will watch and see if I still agree.

Oh how interesting Jesus. I knew very little of the case other than at the time it happened I thought how unusual it sounded.

It was only hearing it being discussed on the podcast that I read some more. I watched a few clips of Burke Ramsey being interviewed by Dr Phil. I'd say it was an ill-advised move for him to be interviewed!

My understanding is that the Ramseys have been very litigious before and people have kept quiet but CBS have said, Go ahead, bring it on, sue us. I suspect your conclusion is the same as the CBS doc one. The governor of Colorado has publicly praised the documentary and reminded everyone that the case is still open.

absolutelynotfabulous · 23/09/2016 16:50

Thanks for the Jonbenet info. I never think to look on youtube.

Can't believe there's another Air Crash Investigation fan! I thought I was the only one!

IHaveBrilloHair · 23/09/2016 18:48

That's my weekend sorted

hollyisalovelyname · 23/09/2016 19:27

Attic hatch.
I sometimes wonder if there is someone up in ours !!!
I never go up. Nor does dh.
I can see a window in our roof from an angle on our road but I have never seen it in the actual attic when I ventured up twice years ago. It is a strangely angled attic.

JesusDontWantMeForASunbeam · 24/09/2016 10:04

Our loft hatch blew down in the night once. Not much sleep was had.

Watched the JBR doc. I agree with their theory but I'm slightly agog at just how biased it was!

Watching it just now, the fact that nobody will speak to them on camera is odd. And the reconstructed house is just creepy!

JesusDontWantMeForASunbeam · 24/09/2016 17:04

I think once John Ramsey dies people will be more willing to speak freely about their theories/ memories of the family etc.

OP posts:
ayeokthen · 24/09/2016 17:05

It's just really really creepy so far! Those reconstructions with the kid and the torch Shock

absolutelynotfabulous · 24/09/2016 18:37

Just seen it. It's brilliant. I think the conclusion, if you can call it that, is entirely plausible.

ayeokthen · 24/09/2016 18:39

It's plausible, but a very dangerous thing to put out there publicly without definitive proof. Apparently John and Burke Ramsey are suing. Is it just me who thought Patsy seemed heavily sedated in the first press interview? She slurred her speech and seemed very spaced out.

JesusDontWantMeForASunbeam · 24/09/2016 19:02

I said that to DP (forced him to watch too). She looked drugged up to the eyeballs.

OP posts:
ayeokthen · 24/09/2016 19:05

I was stunned by the fact that in the whole media/police/FBI circus the actual fact that a little girl had been brutally killed seemed to almost become irrelevant. Poor wee mite.

JesusDontWantMeForASunbeam · 24/09/2016 19:39

It was horrible. The fact that politics can impede an investigation into a murdered child turns my stomach.

I'm watching the Dr Phil interviews tonight.

OP posts:
ayeokthen · 24/09/2016 19:46

I just don't understand why as parents you would impede the police in any way? Surely you'd be doing everything you possibly could to help them find the killer? And John Ramsey being allowed to lift her little body up the stairs and dumping her on the floor??? Mega alarm bells there!!
