Only I can't find one on Search, so sorry if repeating.

Jeremy Clarkson and the man with the ridicuous hair asking Richard Hammond if he "was now mental" and giving him a tissue "in case he dribbles".

And in the interview with Jamie Oliver they said somehting about him having a "special needs face".

I mean, this is the BBC ffs not some crappy channel.

Agree Fillyjonk with your post of 7.37.
Jeremy Clarkson gets away with his nasty bigoted views and public money pays his salary.I feel it's a a class and gender issue.
He's middle class and male, Jade Goody is working class and female.
Let's burn the witch and smile indulgently at the overgrown public school boy.

Cappuccino · 31/01/2007 10:43

oh dear

do we really have such a class chip on her shoulder that Jade is going to become a national hero again?

I really do despair. The woman is dim and a bully. She bullied people at school. Are school bullies nice people?

ArcticRoll · 31/01/2007 10:47

No I can't stand Jade Goody and her sleb status and her treatment of Shilpa.
Just find it interesting that she is villified in the media and JC is allowed to get away with his offensive views.

I find it interesting about what constitutes being offensive and what doesn't. I think yes, it is probably a personal reaction. I think Borat is funny because the guy playing him is sending up the ignorance of others, he's playing a part. I also found the Office and Alan Partridge funny I'm afriad (and I'm originally from Norfolk). But Jeremy Clarkson I really don't like, so probably it's personal. All I know is that I did gasp in shock at his remark about 'special needs'. And I don't think you need to be directly affected by special needs to be offended. In my opinion, mocking any vulnerable people is not on, but then I'm one of those politically correct bores.

I read an article by Jamie Oliver's dad the other day and he said that when Jamie went to school he had to leave the class for special lessons due to being dyslexic. The class would all chant "special needs, special needs". Jamie being Jamie would laugh it off but you can see where his comment about being in special needs came from.

I wasn't offended by Jeremy Clarkson's comments to Richard Hammond as it was in the context of close mates ribbing each other in a way that they are both used to. The underlying affection between the presenters is obvious and really what makes the programme work so well. Maybe its because my friends and I have a similar 'sick' sense of humour that I can accept it. Its how we cope with things but doesn't mean we don't care.

satine · 31/01/2007 15:44

Can we stop comparing JC with Jade Goody? She was cruel, rude and encouraged others to join her in being nasty to an individual who, as far as I could see, had done nothing to provoke that reaction. Whether her attitude was motivated by racism or not, she actively attacked Shilpa.
JC has a particular media persona, and sense of humour that not everyone likes or finds funny, but he is not a rude, aggressive bully who launches furous tirades at undeserving individuals.

overdraft · 31/01/2007 19:11

this program is being repeated now on BBC2 now

Fillyjonk · 01/02/2007 08:11

"(JC) is not a rude, aggressive bully who launches furous tirades at undeserving individuals."

hmm well that is true

he goes for entire countries, entire minority groups...

actually I increasingly think it is a class/gender issue.

He has the intelligence to say it in a witty way.

He doesn't say "feck the welsh", he melts wales in a microwave.

Because he is doing it as a joke we can't criticise it without being called "humourless".

And, as we all know, if you are humourless, what you say can be utterly disregarded becuase there is nothing worse that being humourless

God I bet he's a vile vile boss, btw. The kind that mocks staff in front of others then says "oh, can't take a joke?"

belgo · 02/02/2007 19:46

this is on the news about the comments JC made:
here

anniebear · 02/02/2007 20:55

I totally agree with that report on the BBC

I have a child with special needs and I thought it was awful things that he joked about and it has obviously offended a lot of people

Does it really matter that it was just JC? He can get away with it because thats what he is like????

well I think it was really insensitive
