Only I can't find one on Search, so sorry if repeating.

Jeremy Clarkson and the man with the ridicuous hair asking Richard Hammond if he "was now mental" and giving him a tissue "in case he dribbles".

And in the interview with Jamie Oliver they said somehting about him having a "special needs face".

I mean, this is the BBC ffs not some crappy channel.

and before you start, I was using the word 'cripples' to bring home the 1970s point

don't all get your boots on and jump on me

foxinsocks · 30/01/2007 11:18

yes Capp, it was a stand up thing (think it was on ch4 over christmas at some point). Just horrendous.

quadrophenia · 30/01/2007 11:19

lol at 'nasty nasty little man'

agree completely

I do actually enjoy Jeremy Clarkson, I have to say, though I don't agree with his politics. Though I think my dad would

(Pruni are we finally answering your 'decent Right-Wing stand-up' question in a completely unexpected way?)

harpsichordcarrier · 30/01/2007 11:27

Ricky Gervais is a twonk of the highest order.
JC I have some time and respect for, in fact. he redeems himself greatly by being actually quite funny.

wotzsaname · 30/01/2007 11:28

JC / funny
garlic / bread

DumbledoresGirl · 30/01/2007 11:29

I thought jamie Oliver handled it well though. he did say back to JC "For most of my schooling I was a special needs kid". he is a great advertisement for what SN kids can do with their lives.

Cappuccino · 30/01/2007 11:29

eh?

Cappuccino · 30/01/2007 11:30

that was eh? at the bread bit DG, not at you

oliveoil · 30/01/2007 11:31

I think JC can be funny, his column can be funny but he has gone way down in my estimation after this programme so we will agree to disagree.

OP posts:
DumbledoresGirl · 30/01/2007 11:31

Ok its ok. I see my point had been made already.

I really should read before posting.

wotzsaname · 30/01/2007 11:32

eh? Peter Kay 'garlic bread joke'...like the 2 dont go!
like JC and funny!

youd have to have seen it i guesss

minko · 30/01/2007 11:54

I can't stand Clarkson. I don't like his comments either. But what with that and CBB I really feel there is a massive loss of a sense of humour in this country at the moment. Everyone is so busy watching there backs in case someone takes offence.
I'm not sure where I'm going with this, but I just think life is gonna be pretty boring and stilted if it keeps going this way...

belgianmama · 30/01/2007 12:09

I know what you mean Minko. You mean that soon we wont be able to do dumb blonde jokes just in case they take offence too. (Yes, i'm blonde myself and I can laugh at dumb blonde jokes).
The whole point of humour in my opinion is to make light of something serious. Humour is often meant to shock. It's a way to laugh at, highlight and cope with the absurbdities of the world we live in now.

Bananaknickers · 30/01/2007 12:15

I had no idea that Jamie had dyslexia

belgianmama · 30/01/2007 12:19

Oh, I keep having to stop myself from putting offensive jokes about myself on here (was so close to it when saying I was a bit slow & now a dyslexic Jamie?!! Oh stop stop stop offensive mind of mine...)

Fillyjonk · 30/01/2007 15:54

ok heres what fecks me off

I am bloody paying for this bigoted schoolboy crap to be produced

now there is loads on tv i can't stand but

i draw the line when it is nasty

i agree it is quite understandable given his persona

which is why the whole show should just feck off and be replaced with a nice documentary or something

Fillyjonk · 30/01/2007 15:55

and i'm sorry but wheres the humour in being offensive?

wotzsaname · 30/01/2007 16:20

they still show last of the summer wine, thats got 3 blokes in it being sort of funny.

Mercy · 30/01/2007 16:24

I don't watch Top Gear but I know JC's reputation. I don't think he meant it to be offensive, many men are bad at expressing emotions and I think that's probably what he was trying to do. I'm not excusing him because his humour was in poor taste - interesting that JO was there!

Oh, and Jeremy Clarkson isn't that old btw.

youngmumoftwo · 30/01/2007 17:04

Oh for gods sake (prob. offended relgious people now). So asking if he was dribbling now, offends people, why exactly? Thats exactly the kind of thing I said to my uncle after his head injury, and yes we laughed. That doesnt mean that I think being brain damaged is funny, or that I dont have any respect for people in those situations. I think it was said because it was a tense time and JC is quite "direct". HE also knew that the person it was directed to wouldnt be offended. Richard Hammond can stick up for himself, the whole show is built around the kind of mickey taking that "lads" do. He also didnt say it in a genuine serious "Do you dribble?" way, as if he didnt understand whether RH did or not.
I enjoy the show, I find JC no nonsence, non pc talking refreshing after so much on tv is pc sensored. I agree with some of his comments, he looks at some things and actually says what many people are thinking, but doesnt say, I am not refering to dribbling, but things like the resurfacing a road. SOmething that many people have moaned about and said, why does it take so long. He actually attempted it and showed the problems and his tips...eating berries!!
Its like the whole CBB thing, I believe that was blown out of proportion.

DumbledoresGirl · 30/01/2007 19:30

I agree, it is just three men talking together as three men the world over do. I think that is the attraction of the programme tbh.

I am not a man or interested in cars, but I know my dh and ds1 and ds2 love the programme - would be gutted to miss it - and most of their enjoyment comes from the piss-taking that the men do.

It doesn't appeal to everyone, but if we only watched (and made) programmes that appealed to everyone, our tv screens would be blank!

"Now I'm not condoning what Clarkson said, but I think it just him, his way, his age / era he grew up in. Quite a while ago now they were talkng about some German car and he referenced it with Germany / Hitler (or something equally as racist) and that upset the Germans and made the news."

Speaking as someone who grew up in the same era as JC, I find this remark pretty offensive in itself.
