TENNIS THREAD!- From the Road to Rio, to Flushing Meadows...

Raahh · 09/08/2016 23:14

before my phone decides to give up altogether, here's a new thread to get us on our way.

Andy Murray still in the Olympic Singles, as is Rafa,

Jo Konta through for the women.

Lots of missing names from the top players- but we are edging towards the US open- without Federer- and who knows, maybe even without Djokovic.

Could we be heading for all change at the top?

Still.

NoBarbaraGood · 14/08/2016 20:29

(For anyone still wondering: Gold medal match has been pushed back another 15 minutes.)

sweetpeaandroses · 14/08/2016 20:29

Nor me Raah. My tv says 'this channel has ended. Claire B has just said on in 10 mins, maybe BBC4.

CremeEggThief · 14/08/2016 20:32

Any idea what the score is now? For anyone who doesn't know, Mattek-Sands and Sock won.

Raahh · 14/08/2016 20:34

Kei is 5-2 up. Don't think Rafa will get a bronze Sad

But he has 2 gold medals from doubles in Rio, and singles in Beijing, so not so bad.

This bronze medal match is quite exciting after all

NoBarbaraGood · 14/08/2016 20:38

I always use www.flashscore.com/tennis/ for live scores -- and it's usually ahead of whatever broadcast I'm watching.

Nishi up 5-3; serving for the match at 30-15.

CremeEggThief · 14/08/2016 20:40

According to that, Nishikori has wonSad.

hugoagogo · 14/08/2016 20:41

Vamos Del Potro!

Hmmmm. My trusty NBC app doesn't even have the gold medal match listed under "upcoming" -- I think that means I will have to watch it on Bravo instead.

In case you don't realize, Bravo is a cable/satellite channel that has shown tennis all week, much to the consternation of its regular audience, I'm sure. NBC's parent company owns a bunch of channels, and has farmed out coverage for some sports to a variety of channels.

Bravo shows all of the "Real Housewives of ..." programs. All day long, I think.

Raahh · 14/08/2016 20:54

Barbara- Grin bet the Bravo viewers are cross.

Bit rubbish here if you only have 'proper' telly. The Beeb are swapping between BBC1 and 2, and also BBC4.

I hope the Brazilians aren't too rude against Juan. I love Juan. He deserves to win this. Murray has had an easy run, and made it look difficult.

CremeEggThief · 14/08/2016 20:54

For those in the UK, it's just starting on BBC 4.

Vamos Del Potro!

Raahh · 14/08/2016 20:58

i really want Del Potro to win. he is has missed out on so much, he's been out for so long. He is a top 4 player in my mind, and i would love this to be the start of something big. He's lovely, and one of the most liked players on the tour.

OP posts:
hugoagogo · 14/08/2016 20:59

I can't believe it's not being shown on bbc1?

Raahh · 14/08/2016 21:02

we have a lot of medal hopes in the cycling- always a bigger draw than the tennis, Olympics wise, which is probably why tennis is on 4 rather than 1/2.

OP posts:
NoBarbaraGood · 14/08/2016 21:03

I'm for Del Potro, too. Nothing against Andy at all, but how can I resist such a Cinderella story? And I, too, hope it's the start of something big for Delpo.
Would be great for tennis!

And hurray, the app is up! No Bravo for me (so no Mary Carillo, either -- win-win, as they say).

Crowd support seems about the same for both guys?

Raahh · 14/08/2016 21:07

Not really- Brazilians are no fans of Argentinians. Unless they dislike Murray more!

OP posts:
CremeEggThief · 14/08/2016 21:08

Del Potro was the only player who would have challenged the dominance of the Big Four, IMO. In 2009, he looked sharper than both Djokovic and Murray.

CremeEggThief · 14/08/2016 21:09

I think Pascal's going to have his work cut out with this crowd tonight!

Fiderer · 14/08/2016 21:09

Am unused to the 'must be white' Wimbledon rules.

So Murray's shoes look red and leaden.
And del Pot's look garishly yellow.

NoBarbaraGood · 14/08/2016 21:10

There are a lot of Argentinians in the house, though -- including the ones wearing "Jimmy" wigs?!?

Raahh · 14/08/2016 21:11

creme I agree. Regular non- tennis watchers probably don't realise how good he is.
