TENNIS THREAD!- From the Road to Rio, to Flushing Meadows...

Raahh · 09/08/2016 23:14

before my phone decides to give up altogether, here's a new thread to get us on our way.

Andy Murray still in the Olympic Singles, as is Rafa,

Jo Konta through for the women.

Lots of missing names from the top players- but we are edging towards the US open- without Federer- and who knows, maybe even without Djokovic.

Could we be heading for all change at the top?

O.M.G. Look how much it means to J.M.Smile

mogloveseggs · 13/08/2016 21:22

I welled up when he did! Poor Nadal though Sad

JaneJeffer · 13/08/2016 21:22

Damn. I thought that last point was in.

Raahh · 13/08/2016 21:22

aww, I am actually really chuffed for him. Gutted for Rafa- but given the fact he has hardly been able to play, he's got to be happy with his performance. But understandably gutted. Delpo deserves the gold- he's missed out on so much, and has had some great results this year.

So, Vamos Del Potro!

and now Rafa can rest up for the US (though he is still on the live rankings as going to Cincy, which i doubt).

Thanks Mog

Thought I just managed to find it streaming on YouTube but it was the berlucci game. Sad

hugoagogo · 13/08/2016 21:25

Lovely juan, he looks so chuffed Grin

DramaAlpaca · 13/08/2016 21:26

I'm really happy for Del Potro, tbh.

And at least Rafa has his doubles gold.

I didn't see the last couple of points, switched over to the cycling - another gold in a WR time for the women's team pursuit.

AmIthatbloodycold · 13/08/2016 23:21

Delighted for Delpo.

So happy that Rafa didn't win , so I can enjoy the final tomorrow. All the little "quirks" that others find endearing, really wind me up

Desperately want Andy to get a gold for TeamGB, but seeing how much it means to Juan Martin, wouldn't be too disappointed if he won.

Raahh · 13/08/2016 23:35

I am definitely Team Delpo tomorrow- can't abide Murray and his irritating muttering. And heaven

Raahh · 13/08/2016 23:38

oops!

heaven forbid he starts losing...

It's been a really odd tournament, though, with all the players that are missing.

Monica Puig may be about to create history in the women's match though.

CremeEggThief · 13/08/2016 23:42

I'm just seeing this is on the red button now, Raah. What on earth is going on with Angie?ShockI don't think I've even heard of Monica Puig before the Olympics!

AmIthatbloodycold · 13/08/2016 23:45

I'm enjoying this ladies final.

CremeEggThief · 13/08/2016 23:46

This girl is good!

CremeEggThief · 13/08/2016 23:50

She reminds me of her namesake, Monica Seles.

CremeEggThief · 13/08/2016 23:50

She's done it!ShockStar

Raahh · 13/08/2016 23:51

She's pretty young, Monica. I've seen her name a lot, but don't recall watching much.

And very well done to her- and Puerto Rico! Star

Raahh · 13/08/2016 23:52

Aww, lovely. But Kerber appeared to fall apart a bit.

But it's not Serena. Which is always goodGrin.

OP posts:
AmIthatbloodycold · 13/08/2016 23:53

Aw bless her. Well done.

DramaAlpaca · 13/08/2016 23:53

I haven't seen much of Monica, but I loved the way she played.

Well done her! Star

CremeEggThief · 13/08/2016 23:54

It's the first EVER gold medal for Puerto Rico in any sport!

Raahh · 13/08/2016 23:57

Creme that's impressive isn't it? it's a proper 'Olympic dream' story.

OP posts:
CremeEggThief · 14/08/2016 00:03

It sure is, Raah. Very perfunctory handshake from Angie at the end. I don't think she even said anything to Monica. I feel disappointed in her.Sad

Raahh · 14/08/2016 00:28

I am now listening to/watching my other big sporting crush- Michael Johnson.

I could listen to him forever. He's lovelyGrin

Not sure I will stay awake to see much of the athletics though.

CremeEggThief · 14/08/2016 16:58

He has a fantastic voicexperience, Raah. Very soothing.

The women's doubles is on. Makarova/Vesnina are 5/3 up in the first set, with a break of serve.

CremeEggThief · 14/08/2016 18:03

Gold for the Russians. 6/4, 6/4.
