TENNIS THREAD!- From the Road to Rio, to Flushing Meadows...

Raahh · 09/08/2016 23:14

before my phone decides to give up altogether, here's a new thread to get us on our way.

Andy Murray still in the Olympic Singles, as is Rafa,

Jo Konta through for the women.

Lots of missing names from the top players- but we are edging towards the US open- without Federer- and who knows, maybe even without Djokovic.

Could we be heading for all change at the top?

I'm looking forward to the tour finals, anyway (hope Milos can play).
Very jealous of any of you with tickets!

I'm expecting Dom Thiem to get the 8th place, since Rafa points wise has it, but obviously isn't playing, and Dom is next . I suppose if Raonic is injured Berdych is next up ?

Hope you're right, Raah. If anyone can get back to the top 5 in their thirties, it's Roger. He seems to be enjoying his time off the court though. It was great seeing him helping out at Rafa's new academy.

BeckerLleytonNever · 07/11/2016 16:16

WELL DONE ANDY!!!!!
and Jamie getting an OBE too.
proud of them both and glad its happened now while they're still British!!!

and well done Konta being in the top 10.

things looking good for GB, especially Kyle improving all the time too.

Raahh · 07/11/2016 18:18

Whatever people may think of Roger, he is a great ambassador for the sport. Though I've always found the monograms a bit pompous. Wonder what he will do next. Can't see him bring a pundit like Mac, or a super coach, though, somehow. Or maybe he will- to his own kids. That would be funny.

Good for Rafa to have his academy and foundation to focus on. Roger and Andy have both spent time at the academy practicing at various times this year-end it is nice to know that they genuinely get on well off court. Andy and Kim even enjoyed some time on Rafa's yacht. I'd like to spend time on Rafa's yacht. Envy

Have to say,Andy has the slightly tougher group going into the finals, especially if Milos is carrying an injury. But Djok has had such a shaky second half year, who knows what will happen!

Jo Konta has indeed had a great year, over shadowed a bit now , but she's done so well. And Kyle has had some great results.

Agree, Becker, what a year it's been for both brothers, plus, as you say, British tennis.

It's been amazing reading and hearing how proud so many people are. Grin

BeckerLleytonNever · 13/11/2016 15:28

Dear Andrew Castle.
Thank tyou SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much for reminding us all every bloody 5 seconds that Andy Murray is world number one.

we didn't know of course, so thanks again for that, a fountain of wisdom and public service.

Come on Thiem! Tennis.

wish BBC would show the doubles before the singles, surprised as Jamies in there, we don't get sky sports.

Raahh · 15/11/2016 22:27

Arghhhhh! i am clicking refresh like loon hoping Milos can draw level with Novak. It is so very very close.

I know Sad. seriously disliking Novak more and more, as Tim henman said, Nov used to enjoy his tennis, have a laugh, but hes too serious and angry these days.

why cant the red button on freeview or sky (I don't have sly sports) show the doubles or eveining matches?

surprised BBC don't show the ANdy and Jamie ones.

I love doubles and am missing them all Sad Tennis.

OneInAMillionYou · 19/11/2016 04:29

Apparently, this year is the worst year by far for ticket sales at the O2.

Ticketmaster are praying Roger and Rafa are back next year!

CremeEggThief · 20/11/2016 18:15

Congratulations to Jamie Murray.
Now come on Andy. He's at a disadvantage, after yesterday's semi against Raonic, but I hope he can do it, and end the year as World No.1. He deserves it and he's been the best player since Queens.

CremeEggThief · 20/11/2016 19:07

Great first set from Murray. Djokovic showing very negative body language at the end of it.

CremeEggThief · 20/11/2016 19:15

Ooh... Murray breaks in the first game of the second set. So many errors from Djokovic! Shock

GrouchyKiwi · 20/11/2016 20:12

So pleased for Andy, especially after those exhausting matches.

CremeEggThief · 20/11/2016 20:41

Well done Andy Murray! Smile

DramaAlpaca · 20/11/2016 20:43

Great result for Andy, very well deserved & massive congratulations to him Star

hugoagogo · 20/11/2016 20:44

I don't like to agree with castle, obv. but he is right about Murray when he said something about him being 'granite' the other day and he is- he is hard.

Not me though, I cried.Blush

FurbysMakeSexNoises · 20/11/2016 20:47

What's the word on the street about what's going on with Djokovic? All those unforced errors here and Shanghai. Off the boil mentally after the Grand Slam?

CremeEggThief · 20/11/2016 21:00

Some people reckon it's marital problems. I am very confused by it all, Furbys.

magimedi · 20/11/2016 22:48

Well done Andy!! Tennis

Look forward to seeing you al next year for the Aussie Open Tennis

AmIthatbloodycold · 21/11/2016 00:16

Did you really, Hugo

I didn't. I just had something in my eye. Bit of dust or something Grin

JaneJeffer · 21/11/2016 22:59

I missed most of the tennis but I'm delighted for Andy. What a year for the Murrays!
