TENNIS THREAD!- From the Road to Rio, to Flushing Meadows...

Raahh · 09/08/2016 23:14

before my phone decides to give up altogether, here's a new thread to get us on our way.

Andy Murray still in the Olympic Singles, as is Rafa,

Jo Konta through for the women.

Lots of missing names from the top players- but we are edging towards the US open- without Federer- and who knows, maybe even without Djokovic.

Could we be heading for all change at the top?

*fecking huge. Stupid autocorrect!

Thanks Raah!

Belindabelle · 18/09/2016 16:08

Just came on here to vent about how much I hate John Inverdale. His inane chatter is ruining my enjoyment of the tennis. That's all.
Oh and come on Dan!

Raahh · 18/09/2016 18:21

How's your voice today, trixy?

I have been watching the tennis, and the Paralympic marathon. Sad end of the games for David Weir. I wonder if it was a games too far. His head clearly hasn't been in it this time around. He will be happy to go home to his wife and new baby.

Dan needs to be careful. He will only end up pissing himself off. Mayer is looking quite relaxed, and isn't getting rattled by it.

OP posts:
Raahh · 18/09/2016 18:22

Mayer, is, however playing far better than Dan anyway.

My voice is rough! Sad at the result, but the Argentinians were just the better players.

I'd forgotten how great the atmosphere is at the Davis cup and kicking myself I didn't get tickets for the whole weekend now.

AmIthatbloodycold · 19/09/2016 08:48

Did the children enjoy it Trixy? Disappointing result but I'm glad Andy can concentrate on himself for the rest of the year

It was a pleasure to watch the Argentine players and meet some of their beautiful fansWink

trixymalixy · 19/09/2016 09:11

They had a fab time. Think they enjoyed the singing more than the tennis though, they got a bit restless at one point!! I'm really glad I took them though, such good value at £10 for a kids ticket.

BeckerLleytonNever · 30/09/2016 16:16

Ho hum- so Djokovic and Serena are 'injured' again and cant play these ''lesser'' tournaments. Anyone else not believe them? serena especially seems to happens this every year.

BeckerLleytonNever · 01/10/2016 16:57

LOL. You I I said earlier that Mrs Murray reminds me of Deborah Watling (Victoria) in doctor Who?

Well we were watching a dvd I bought with the 7th doctor, Sylvester McCoy, called 'Delta and the Bannermen'' and the actress who plays delta is the split of Angelique Kerber! In facet DC mentioned it first!

Nice, my 2 favourite things, Doctor Who and tennis! together. Tennis.

going to miss the Shanghai masters and Valencia Sad I don't get sky sports I love those 2 tourneys.

Raahh · 05/10/2016 21:12

Not able to 'watch' Beijing, but glad that Rafa through the first round.

I cannot believe it is nearly the WTF. Where has this year gone??

Ooh this thread had dropped off my TIM

Good day in China, what with Andy's win and Grigor beating Nadal

I met him a couple of weeks ago and am now a confirmed fan.

magimedi · 08/10/2016 16:09

Well done to Jo Konta, reaching the final & getting in to the top 10.

Go, Jo! Tennis

AmIthatbloodycold · 09/10/2016 18:57

Hard luck to Jo

Well done to Andy. Grigor (swoon) played so well too

Happy day

Raahh · 04/11/2016 19:21

Just bumping thread in readiness for Tour finals.
Am sad that Rafa won't be there, but not surprised. Was hoping Thiem would make it, but it's looking unlikely.

Great end to the year for Del Po, up to 38 now, so next year can only get better.
And fab win for Cilic over Djok (though the media writing Djok off, is a bit premature I think. All players go through slumps at times).
Murray will probably end up number one, if he wins in Paris.

I can't believe it's November!! it's nearly time for the Aussie open Grin

Berdych is looking to spoil the party in Paris at the moment- mind you, he also wants to make it to London, so there is a lot at stake.

Go! Andy!

He deserves No 1.

Have just got my tickets for Eastbourne in June - ground pass for the Thursday - if anyone else fancies a bit of a meet...............

carabos · 05/11/2016 07:57

Fingers x-ed for AM, although it's not the real #1 - he's still a bit away from that. Not a Djok fan, but I think he's just resting his mind for a bit. He'll dump Boris and come roaring back I reckon.

Nadal and Roger are cooked and the number three four and five spots are a long way back from the top two, so the rise of Delpo next year will be exciting to watch.

WellTidy · 05/11/2016 14:06

Anyone know how could watch the AM match at 3:30 please? Never have I felt so sorry for just having freeview.

magimedi · 05/11/2016 15:12

Am sad that Raonic couldn't play but delighted for Andy that he is now Numero Uno.

Tennis Tennis Tennis

AmIthatbloodycold · 05/11/2016 19:58

Well Tidy. I watch via cricfree on my laptop.

Magi I'm sad for Raonic but out of this world delighted for super Andy

CremeEggThief · 06/11/2016 23:28

Hey, all fellow tennis lovers.
Well done Andy Murray. I'd prefer it to be him instead of Djokovic any day. I think Jamie Murray is no.1 in doubles, so a great year for the whole family. Star

DramaAlpaca · 06/11/2016 23:34

So happy for Andy on reaching Number One. Very well deserved indeed.

Peregrina · 07/11/2016 11:31

Roger Federer is now down to 16 in the rankings. That must be the end for him, surely?Sad

Well done Andy.

Raahh · 07/11/2016 14:18

Peregrina not really, it reflects the fact he had a really good end to 2015, (runner up in the tour finals)so all the points he got then are dropping off, which is why he has dropped down so quickly. But I suppose it depends if he wants to come back in 2017- he's carried on longer than most players do.

What a difference a year makes, really.
