Starts tomorrow - anyone planning to watch?

It looks like a new version of Castaway without the heavy-handed interference of the TV crew and without the cosy huts provided.

One of the women had an egg in her top and accidentally broke it in there. That's the only "death" I saw.

There was a shot of the fisherman in the boat, but I'm pretty sure that when Jack was all "just ask x y z if you need help building a cabin and they'll be there", the fisherman was one of the people named who was supposed to drop everything to help build houses.

The fisherman was in last night's episode. He was in the gang of bully boys who started building their own secret winter cabin. He was too busy plotting to fish

It's bonkers.

Why, when the lack of food seems to be such an issue, aren't the rest of them telling fisherman to go get in that boat and not help with the building until he's caught them a good fish dinner?

They are idiots. If I ruled the place, I would have forgotten about the meeting teepee and the sweat lodge until they had done all the planting. I'd have the fishing nets in the sea (controversial, I know! ). I'd have teams that spend half a day fishing/trapping/foraging etc.
I'd have the sheep and goats in pens so they can keep track of them.
Let the bully boys build for everyone but make them dependent on the others for food because then they might value their contribution.

What a disgusting way for the men to behave

The thing that throws the dynamic properly off kilter is that the 'natural' jobs for each sex aren't abundant enough for there to be a comfortable division of labour. The hunting and fishing is proving not to be the strong point for the men so they're doing building plus more gender neutral work. There being no children around and very few relationships, the men rely on the women for very little and are ending up comparing their abilities to the women's abilities in physically demanding work. It would be extremely interesting if they did this experiment again with a female chef and more women with less fluffy day jobs.

DH said it is like in Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, where the ship with all the insurance salesmen, hairdressers and telephone sanitisers is the one that survives to repopulate the new earth....... and I think it was mentioned in a newspaper review.

TBH, we have given up watching. They are hopeless (but not as bad as the people trying to survive N Norway with only mobile phones to help them, that we watched, accidently, a few weeks ago on BBC2 - they were dire).

I think the viewing figures are going to go down and down over the year until there's only 10 pp watching at the end of the year....

Something that is actually a fascinating experiment has been filmed in such a way that it's on a par with watching ( v expensive ) paint dry!

I think that in order to avoid a repeat of 10000BC they gave them too much stuff at the beginning. This led to them becoming complacent and lazy and entitled (they used all their sugar on things like cereal etc in the early days).

They got into romantic / friend relationships too soon and are now arguing and in-fighting rather than working together as a team.

This is going to fail spectacularly.

Yes, they were busy building teepees and showers instead of focusing attended on getting the garden planted and their fisherman working on getting fresh protein, weren't they? Almost like they were still in a "oh, we can pop to the supermarket if we run low on food" mentality.

What's going on with the hunter BTW? Is he only allowed to hunt animals for food at certain times of year?

Quite enjoying this but I have sooo many questions, like where do they get their drinking water? The boat people bringing chocolate - fake or not? And who will allegedly leave tonight? My money is on Tara.

I am shocked that they actually killed that sheep!

It's an age old challenge innit; how to incorporate/value society members who can't/won't graft as much as others.

I'm also bemused about some blokes wasting away whereas others (the 'games keeper') still look stocky.
