channel four's reply to my complaint.
Thank you for contacting Viewer Enquiries and for your e-mail regarding the interaction between the housemates in this years' CELEBRITY BIG BROTHER.
We are sorry to read that you are concerned by the treatment of Shilpa by other housemates. I can assure you that every housemates? well-being is of paramount importance to both the production team and Channel 4 and at any point, any housemate can come to the diary room, off camera, and talk to either a member of the production team, psychotherapist or doctor should they feel the need to.
As a viewer of the programme I am sure you will appreciate that the social interactions and dynamics of the group are one of the key parts of the Big Brother story and a part that viewers have a right to see portrayed fairly and accurately, even when it may make for uncomfortable viewing. By the nature of the show this often includes incidents where housemates are not getting on or in situations of conflict. While we do try to encourage housemates to try and resolve any issues between them should that be possible, our duty to present the story as it unfolds is of course balanced with our regulatory duty not to broadcast material that may cause unjustifiable offence. We can assure you that we take matters of bullying and racial abuse very seriously and do not tolerate or condone such behaviour. Big Brother is closely monitoring all the housemates at all times, to ensure they have the appropriate support inside the house, and to take appropriate measures to reprimand such behaviour whe
re necessary.
Finally, thank you for taking the time to write in with your concerns, which have been logged for the information of those responsible for our programming.
Kind regards,
Max Whitman
