Oh - hard to see them go at this stage

icklekid · 02/05/2016 21:27

Bad luck Stuart but right decision!

SlinkyVagabond · 02/05/2016 21:29

I'm calling Jack and Juanita in the final.
Oh pretentious forrin food? No street food.
Wednesday tgen.

HalsallRedux · 02/05/2016 21:30

I can't think of anything worse than being flown to Mexico City to be filmed doing cooking challenges under pressure but hey, it'll be fun to watch Grin.

Till Wednesday!

Roussette · 02/05/2016 21:30

Oooh they've changed it since I typed out when it was on this week... did it this morning, and now not Tuesday but Wed!

See y'all then! Phew!

BlueJug · 02/05/2016 21:30

I'm out on weds but will watch on iPlayer and follow along with your comments.

icklekid · 02/05/2016 21:31

Not on tomorrow? Boo!

dementedma · 02/05/2016 21:40

When they announced Mexico, DD said sadly "oh, Stuart would have loved Mexico...." Which made us all fall about laughing.

Davros · 02/05/2016 22:44

I love Michael O'Hare and would eat any of his food. At that level, whatever shit is under there, it's got to be worth a go. I think it was Waxy Tache's time and Silly Billy got lucky

mollie123 · 03/05/2016 07:55

never heard of Michael O'hare before Blush but he was so NICE to them all and encouraged them in the midst of their angst over doing it right.
Mind you - I would not eat his food - but he is an example of an idiosyncratic chef without the attitude. (liked the idea of the edible eggshells thouch Smile)

SheHasAWildHeart · 03/05/2016 09:35

I'd love to try the food just once, because it's so different from anything else. I think it's just that visually it doesn't look very appealing or filling. He was lovely to them though which was nice to see.

Sad to see Stuart go because he really wanted to be in the final. He'll be kicking himself over the dome.

Davros · 03/05/2016 10:00

If he hadn't told them it was meant to be a dome would it have mattered?

Helenluvsrob · 03/05/2016 10:33

Davros I think he lost out by calling it a cocktail based dish and presenting what was , taste wise missing the whisky. The theatre of the dome was just " the icing on the top " literally.

Johns opinion won out agsin, as it probably should.

Glad it's on tomorrow. Out tonight!

Roussette · 03/05/2016 10:45

I've got friends coming for a meal on Saturday night. Just off to source some tiles that I can splatter, no smear for me, sooo yesterday Grin

We need to start guessing who's going to be winner.

My money's on Jack, I actually think he's been the most consistent and a woman won last year plus he's a dead ringer for a rellie of mine!

TondelayaDellaVentamiglia · 03/05/2016 10:56

that GlamRock chef tried those dishes on GBM...he was given short shrift for the raw prawn, but his idea of refining it was to heat its brains up

You have to be quick to catch it but Samantha Bond did a beautiful "wtaf is THIS?" face when the starter went down in front of her.

when Billyboy went through last night it made me wonder, if he has been edited to look like a twat and is going to romp home in the final against all the odds

I only really like Jack from the ones who are left.

squoosh · 03/05/2016 11:11

Loved Glam Rock chef. Okay some of his dishes sound liked they belonged on I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here but he was so sweet. And he was very sweet on the Great British Menu too.

Sorry to see Stuart go (even though he annoyed the bejeepers out of me at the start) but his pudding did look pretty underwhelming.

I'm not sure who I want to win now, either Juanita or Jack. I'd put my money on Jack though.

squoosh · 03/05/2016 11:13

Rousette before serving just put each plate up the chimney and give it a good shake about. That should get you the perfect avant garde soot look. Your guests will be charmed. Charmed I tell you!

squoosh · 03/05/2016 11:14

Oh and I don't mind Billy. His pretty face feeds my eyes.

(when Marcus isn't around).

ellenanora5 · 03/05/2016 11:30

That's one of the weirdest rounds I've ever seen, it didn't appeal to me at all.

Mexico should be fun Grin

Davros · 03/05/2016 12:25

I think Billy could turn out to be the surprise contender because he seems to have learnt the most whereas Jack and Juanita have stayed at the same (excellent) level.
Agreed about Stuart's downfall, by describing his dish as one thing and then not delivering on the specific components he left himself open to criticism. Best to bill your dish as "food", if indeed it is, and then all options are open Grin

SheHasAWildHeart · 03/05/2016 12:42

Stuart should have just put lots of eggs in the sous-vide and served those.
Am sure they said that the eggs in yesterday's Bristol Old Vic bit had taken 60 minutes to cook!

chemenger · 03/05/2016 12:59

We were laughing out loud at the food last night, I agree with PP that they had to have actors taste it to ensure that nobody gave the natural reaction to black food and prawn brains. I also felt that the food relied a lot on chemical assistance rather than natural flavour - "vinegar powder" which is sodium acetate, dried squid ink which was largely there as a colouring and did I see drops of either violet flavour or colour being added - why not just bung in a bit of MSG to pep it all up a bit? The whole thing was too contrived.
I want Jane to go next otherwise dh is going to get fed up of me mocking her oooo wickle me head tilting. Juanita to win.

WordGetsAround · 03/05/2016 13:02

Hello, first time posting on this thread, but did put a bid in for Marcus on the other one!

Just caught up and have to say I loved that episode! I remember Michael from GBM and he was the loveliest, most genuine guy on it. I think he got 2 dishes to the final but was very humble about it all.
I loved that their 'maverick' experience was with a British chef - in the past they've always taken people abroad to learn cutting edge culinary fashion!
I definitely thought it was time for science guy to go and think glasses guy to win (crap with names!). Billy is quite easy on the eye but a bit pretty for me!

Roussette · 03/05/2016 15:53

WordGetsAround
Ahem... Marcus is taken. Squoosh has first dibs Grin

Agree that it's lovely they used a British chef for the ridiculous round - was it last year they went to some Swedish resto with no electricity and just wood fires and microwaves made out of tree trunks and coal or summat?

Squoosh I'm rather liking yr sooty idea, either that or as someone said upthread, I think I could empty my toaster and have lots of black crumbs. It's what I call them that's the problem, soil is so passé !

I've been lurking on this thread and had to come on to say I HAVE EATEN RAW PRAWN/BRAINS/ GONADS and all the rest and I didn't even realise it was all that vomit-inducing stuff, it tasted delicious!

I'm not that adventurous with food but went to Michael O'Hare's place for a friends birthday and the menu was practically the same. It was a bit scary and felt like a bush tucker trial much of the time but it was truly fabulous. I managed to eat everything apart from the runny eggy thing which just turns my stomach.

The chocolate turdy thing was amazing.
