Murdered By My Father (BBC3 and soon to be on BBC1)

I watched this last night on iPlayer (it's to be aired on BBC1 on Tuesday).

In the same vein of Murdered by my Boyfriend. Girl of 16/17 promised to the son of a business associate of her widowed father's in an arranged marriage, but in love with another.

The most harrowing thing I have seen in a very long time. I was speechless when the credits started rolling (literally, mouth open but couldn't get anything out). The storyline, I feel, was incredibly well written (the character of the father was especially good) and acting was bloody amazing.

I found it harder to watch than Murdered by my Boyfriend - maybe because it involves a parent and their child. Utterly utterly heartbreaking.

Harrowing is the word. I just sat in tears, clutching my baby at the end.

Can't believe a father could do such a thing to his daughter. If only she hadn't gone back home the next morning.

Was it a supposed 'honour' thing? It sounds harrowing. MBMB was devastating; I sometimes reflect on what happened to the real child and mum in that case. Awful.

Yes, an honour related killing - based on a few real life cases I believe :(

It was harrowing very very upsetting but it needed to be to tell the story. Still feel emotional about it three days later Sad

Though not based on a true story there are so many that are very similar it has to be told

Really well acted especially Kiran Sonia Sawar. I read that she wanted her character to be feisty and show that the stories are complex she did an amazing job doing that

Watched this on Youtube as I can't access Iplayer (not in UK). I did see the trailer for it on BBC which we do get.

Horrendous! Brilliant acting.....

So wish she'd jumped in the car when he asked her to......

Very powerful at the end when they gave out the statistics.

Karma Nirvana was also in the credits (brilliant), a charity helping these women.
I read the book by the woman who set it up, who escaped a similar fate.

Yes, I knew about poor Casey and her little girl. Horrendous case.

One of the most affecting pieces of drama I've ever seen.

Harrowing.

The scene where he murdered her was so horrific to watch. So prolonged. Any microscopic shred of sympathy you may have had for her father utterly disappeared. Scrabbling around for a plastic bag to stuff in her mouth raised it to another level of horror.

Brilliant performances all round.

I just watched this, even though you knew the outcome I was so willing her to get away. Fantastic acting, incredibly moving.

The question I have about these 'honour' killings, it is done to protect the family name as these girls have apparently shamed them. But how are the killings viewed by the people who would have shunned them had they stood by their daughter? Do they view it as horrific? Or is it "what had to be done" and used as a warning for others?

I had to turn over half way through. My (white British) son has had a Sikh girlfriend at uni for four years. She says her parents will go crazy if they find out. They are going to graduate in a few months and are deciding what to do. I am so worried about it, I feel sick just thinking about it.

Oh god Tinkly - I feel for your DS's girlfriend, I really do. Should she contact that organisation that was mentioned at the end of the programme? (Karma Nirvana I think) for advice?

That is a really good idea Cuppa. I have always thought, well she is such a lovely, lovely girl, her parents must be nice people. And they seem to love her, they will come round. And my boy is a good lad, decent and kind and hardworking, they would like him if they knew him.

But the dad in the programme was a nice guy, and he loved her, and the other boy was a nice lad. And it was all based on fact Sad

I watched it last night. It made me feel really angry towards the culture, which is gutting. It is the community putting pressure on him.

That's what made it so shocking isn't it? He seemed like a 'nice' dad.
