Does anyone else love it??

Christi was a slow burner for me.

I hated her to start with. I still think her timing is off - like when Maddie and Mackenzie had won and christi kicked off and it ended with Melissa storming out and all three girls (Chloe, Maddie, Mackenzie) sobbing Hmm

However I'm not a stalker Christi was a bit set up with Dance Moms. For one thing, Chloe and Maddie were pretty much equal before the start of the series but the show set it up to look like Chloe wasn't as good as Maddie. For instance, in episode 2 Chloe won in the 9-11 age category and Maddie won in the 8 and under but the episode made it look like Maddie won and Chloe lost.

By series 3, Abby's treatment of Chloe had got pretty bad - she was still fairly 'human' in 1 and 2. She definitely gave her sub standard choreography and genres she wasn't as confident in such as the hip hop solo, and when she DID win took it away from her.

Christi is just too impulsive. She jumps in with her mouth before thinking, but I think the heart is there.

I've actually got a soft spot for all the moms. I admire Melissa's devotion, christi's heart and her humour is to die for - I still can't think of the episode with Black patsy without laughing - Jill is very gentle in her way, I like Kelly as well - she is spoilt but she really loves her girls and tries to do right by them. Holly I have a lot of respect for although she sometimes misses the mark. I don't like it when Christi and Kelly mock Abby's weight though.

The one I'm not really warming to is Kalani's mom but I'm a bit biased, as she was awful in AUDC. So was Asia's mom but Asia was a strange little girl. I even liked Sophia Luca's mom!

I haven't met any of the ones in your last paragraph yet. My doc used to do Pony Club and the Dance Moms remind me of the PC mothers, all very Betjemann.
Ideally I would like to see all the DM series one after the other but we don't have Sky and 5* is a long way behind. I actually looked at the boxed sets but they are very expensive.
Do we ever find out what happened when Chloe won the scholarship to the Ballet school Summer school? I did warm to Christi when she called Chloe Chlo-bird it was sweet.
I can't believe Kelly at times especially when she wouldn't let the girls dance and when she altered the choreography for Paige's solo although Abby's blatant favouritism would have had me out of there encouraging the girls to take up knitting!

Floggingmolly · 27/03/2016 21:51

Oh, I seem to be alternating between Series 2 and 4. It's a bit disconcerting when they're all suddenly about 4 years older...
I love Christi; there was an episode last week (don't know which seties) where she gets really emotional explaining how difficult her own upbringing was, and how it's made her even more determined to give Chloe everything she lacked.
Melissa is bloody freaky... Almost robotic.

ilovevegcrisps · 27/03/2016 22:07

Christi had a rotten childhood and she's consequently like a Rottweiler with her girls Grin

Chloe got so TALL in season 4! Beautiful looking girl.

YouTube only seems to have clips not full episodes :(

VertigoNun · 27/03/2016 23:33

No amount of money is worth putting your child through that.

ilovevegcrisps · 28/03/2016 07:34

No, but don't think that they realised that at the beginning. Dance Moms was only intended originally to be six episodes, and Christi did get Chloe away.

Am now part way through season 2 and Abby's behaviour seems to have calmed down and is being fairer and more rational. Except when it comes to Cathy!

Whilst I understand her annoyance she's perpetuating the problem - or the producers are forcing it?
And Jill really doesn't seem able to understand the correlation between her behaviour (constant pushing for Kendall to be on the team) and how she it's proving a DISadvantage to promote Kendall.

I love it and hate it in equal parts!!

Duckfacepalm · 02/04/2016 22:05

Love this show. Sooo guilty! Such pleasure! :)

ilovevegcrisps · 02/04/2016 22:38

Abby was OK in season 2 and started to lose it in season 3. By 4 and 5 she's AWFUL!

I'm a real life dance mom but Id never let a teacher treat my Dd like that. I think the mothers are game hungry at all costs.

Ledkr · 02/04/2016 22:44

Chloe is a better dancer than maddie which was priced when she got the Joffrey scholarship (abd maddie had a hissy fit) it's just that maddie gets the best choreo and costumes.

ilovevegcrisps · 02/04/2016 22:48

Maddie definitely gets superior choreography but I do think she's a beautiful dancer. They have different strengths. Chloe is a gorgeous ballet dancer - so elegant. I love watching Chloe's dances and I love Brooke's as well: she moves so fluidly.

I've just watched an episode from Season 6 Shock. My head's ready to explode.
No Chloe! All the focus on the Minis! Abby's lost about 10 stone!
And I haven't even had wine, honestly...
I'd love to be able to watch them from the start in chronological order.

Yay Mir people who share my guilty pleasure Grin

I'd never heard of it but found and watched it in 5star last week when I was faffing around - so only series 2!

I also find it hilarious but yet have absolutely no idea why! (I mean those poor girls it's actually quite cruel to them).

The mums however just make me giggle. They go from 0-60 in about 2 seconds flat all over a solo!

Ledkr · 03/04/2016 08:41

Abbey gets worse and worse. The later ones make the early ones look like a picnic. Abet is nasty and the mums it tolerate it so they can stay on the show, it's disgusting.
Abbey evded up getting lamped by one of he mothers but I'll let you see who and why as you work through the seasons.

Gatehouse77 · 03/04/2016 11:12

I think it's a bit unfair to say the mothers tolerate it to be on the show, I suspect their contracts were pretty water tight.

I do think Maddie is a great dancer but, personally, I find her facial expressions annoying/sycophantic. I love watching Chlöe; I find her elegant, love how she finishes her moves and she does evil brilliantly!

The flouncing by Kelly and Melissa is puerile. The amount of shit they put the kids through because they can't get their head out of the playground mentality is unbelievable.

I can't imagine being so desperate for my kids to succeed to subject them to that tyranny!

Brokenbiscuit · 03/04/2016 17:09

It's my guilty pleasure too - started out with just dd watching, but then I got sucked in!

DD dances, so I know tons of "dance mums". Thankfully, none of them are as bad as the ones on the programme!

ilovevegcrisps · 03/04/2016 17:20

I hadn't heard of it until I heard and enjoyed Sia's Chandelier. Then I watched the video. Then I googled Maddie Ziegler. The rest as they say is history ... Grin

My mother love this and made me watch a couple of episodes over Easter.

I'm staggered by Abbie's lack of professionalism, and the general screaming and shouting. Abbie should have all the mothers under control, but she's quite out of control herself.

Abbie just seems to do the choreography - is that right? The girls learn dance/gymnastics elsewhere?

Chchchchange · 04/04/2016 19:04

Me too Ilovevegcrisps. I am addicted now.

Although it does boggle my mind!

Groovee · 12/04/2016 21:21

I think having watched this weeks up to date episode. There is a chance the original team is gone forever.

Gatehouse77 · 13/04/2016 09:26

I spend far too much of time and head space thinking about this programme!

A challenge - one word to describe the Mum's and Abby...

Abby - deranged
Christi - feisty
Kelley - emotional
Holly - balanced
Jill - sycophant
Cathy - deluded
Leslie - brash
Melissa - sly

I found Melissa the hardest to whittle down to one word. She clearly lacks confidence, avoids confrontation, is underhand but wants the best for her kids (as they all do).

Groovee · 13/04/2016 11:02

In the last series prior to the current one, The calm stable Holly was gone. She's back this time.
