Well, I guess it is hard to judge from the edited version that you see on TV, but in my opinion:
-Mum was not coping with the pain of contractions.
-MW was absent from the room too much.
-If he had been in the room, he would've been able to support her and also notice that the contractions were ramping up and therefore anticipate a fast delivery.
-Contact with fetal heart on the monitoring was poor, which is why the dad was having to hold it. Mum was in one position the whole time; if she had been well supported, encouraged to move then a) she may have coped better and b) the contact on monitoring may have improved.
-Pregnancy was high risk; she was in prem labour, a possibility of baby needing paed support at delivery for respiratory effort had been discussed between consultant / parents and labour / FH needed continuous monitoring. The resuscitaire should have been on, warm and ready for delivery. Delivery pack should have also been open and ready to go.
Like I say, just an opinion and what happened in a real life time frame could have been different.
