I have missed something over christmas - what happened to Pauline (obviously dead) - what has Sonia or Dot got to do with it?

no, she found out that Rob had persuaded Dawn not to have the abortion, so she is imagining that in 8 months or so she will be mummy to the baby. Of course, Dawn has decided to keep it, not to give it to MAy, but to try and win Rob back

Yes, the Martin snatching Rebecca bit was quite confusing, I thought. At one point I wondered who's house is Rebecca in? Have to say, very good acting between Sonia and martin though.

I agree it's very annoying and weird ATM. Ian's acting is terrible, makes everyone else look like they were trained at the RSC.
