I'd sort of assumed Daniel was, um, a gentleman's gentleman.

ppeatfruit · 13/02/2016 11:20

Oh yes I agree about Rob's rooms (not so much the bat cave) but that dark BLUE in the last one VILE!!!! it looked like a corridor in my worst dreams!

Apologies for coming late to the thread (I also came late to this series Grin) and have been off line.

I like this programme because it gives us the chance to shout at the telly with our own brilliant ideas Grin.

I did like the box bed, it needed a little step up and maybe a shelf on the inside for the bits and pieces.

dillite · 14/02/2016 18:53

Wait! Daniel is straight? Now I never!

annandale · 14/02/2016 20:24

I've been pleasurably browsing Daniel's website and diagnose him in the 'posh and naughty' bracket. He talks about his clients being 'deeply satisfied' - ding dong Grin

ggirl · 14/02/2016 21:24

I think Daniel is gorgeous

SheHasAWildHeart · 14/02/2016 22:30

I don't know why but I was so upset by how such a lovely Georgian room was turned into a blue monstrosity. No appreciation of its history or unique features.
I wish they'd get rid of the judges (and upcycling challenge) and just let the presenter choose the winner. I am convinced that the judges aren't real people but are just characters from Little Britain.

OTheHugeManatee · 14/02/2016 22:45

SheHas - I don't think strong blue is necessarily out of keeping for a Georgian room, though that particular shade might have been just a bit chemical for my taste. We have a Georgian house and have found that the larger rooms are happiest with quite strong colours and paler shades feel a bit mimsy. Painting all the woodwork blue as well though - I'm never convinced by that. Just a bit much.

The one that gave me the rage was Lucy butchering that handsome square ottoman and covering it in pleather and tartan patchwork in Next Catalogue colours Shock

SheHasAWildHeart · 14/02/2016 22:48

i wonder though what the audition/selection process was for the show. And also how much they know about the homeowners before they put their mood boards together.

absolutelynotfabulous · 15/02/2016 10:03

I agree on the blue room too. I understand it was customary to experiment with a wider range of colours in Georgian times. I don't think the designer was that far off the mark, actually; if he was going to do "Parisian" though, I think he could've pulled it off with a greyer shade of blue. The shade he used was just a bit....kid's paintbox?

I've got high ceilings too and I'm desperate to put some really dark colours in..

OTheHugeManatee · 15/02/2016 10:11

Abnotfab - I have F&B Stiffkey Blue in one room and it's stunning. All that depth and lovely dark blue-ness but just enough green and grey in to avoid the kids' paintbox look Grin

ppeatfruit · 15/02/2016 10:22

The thing is absolutelynot The client has to LIVE in the room. Maybe one wall a lighter greyish or something.

After moving into our beamed ancient cottagey house I painted all the dark brown stained woodwork, not the ceiling beams, the kitchen fittings, white, and the walls creamy off white ,the difference is extraordinary!!

Interestingly they didn't discuss changing the colour of the beams in the final cottages (unless I missed it at the beginning Grin ).

Agree about cutting of the ottoman. It was unnecessary and the result looked terrible.

Georgian houses have bigger windows of course so can take darker colours. Though I still prefer to ADD my own colours in the furnishings.

OTheHugeManatee · 15/02/2016 10:33

Anyone else excited to have a new crop of numpties designers today?

Grin
cosmicglittergirl · 15/02/2016 10:51

I'm really excited manatee

GrouchyKiwi · 15/02/2016 11:15

I'm excited too. Grin

ppeatfruit · 15/02/2016 11:33

Oh yes me as well (member of the saddo team too) Hopefully none of them with whiney voices. Hmm

absolutelynotfabulous · 15/02/2016 12:57

ppeat wasn't there a condition that beams weren't to be painted in those cottages?

If not, I agree that painting them would've made a massive difference.

ppeatfruit · 15/02/2016 13:05

I missed the first bit of the programme, so I don't know if the beams were mentioned, they were a strange shiny black though, not natural at all.

I'm battling with painting our beams off white in the kitchen or keeping it 'traditional' with the stained dark brown, so they're not natural too. Sanding would be best but would involve terrible dust and expense.

ppeatfruit · 15/02/2016 13:09

I'm battling with my conscience, because I'd like to remain semi traditional!

Thinking about it, in the very 'old' days they used to 'lime' the beams which would make them whitish, so maybe we should go for that. We've done it in the hall.

OTheHugeManatee · 15/02/2016 13:13

I think painting the beams might have required listed buildings approval.

ppeatfruit · 15/02/2016 13:31

Oh were they grade one listed OTheHuge ?

dillite · 15/02/2016 14:09

I can't wait for tonight. And as it's half term there's no need to rush the bedtime afterwards.

OTheHugeManatee · 15/02/2016 14:36

I dunno ppeat but looking at the exteriors it's very possible.

Cocolepew · 15/02/2016 19:07

FelicityLemon · 15/02/2016 19:07
