This Sunday (17th) at 8pm on BBC1.

I enjoyed the Christmas special - it was good to see Delia back, and I think there's going to be a nice romance with Tom and Barbara Smile

The - it looks like we are going to get a thalidomide story.

Yes IamA That locum was vile Shock . I think that the uterus can be clipped back in can't it? Not an uncommon operation.

I'm not sure is she would be infertile after it though.

Agree about PC plod who has become much more confident now. I liked the reference to Chummy, it would be nice to have her return.

squoosh · 22/02/2016 11:06

Jaysus. I'm still wincing at the womb thing.

I think it's all gone a bit Eastenders to be honest with a bit of Heartbeat (the camping trip) thrown in for good measure.

Elendon · 22/02/2016 11:42

I think Sr Monica is fasting for Lent? The birth scene was harrowing but loved both bathing scenes.

ppeatfruit · 22/02/2016 11:51

squoosh NOOOOO the Archers thread is full of posters saying that about EE Grin.

katienana · 22/02/2016 11:54

Just watched and that has to be one of the most harrowing episodes they've done.
The womb thing - the placenta didn't come out when I gave birth but the cord snapped when pulled on. Am a bit scared now as 30 weeks with my second. That was bloody awful.

IdaJones · 22/02/2016 12:00

Don't worry they can give a drug to make it come out now i think.

Lj8893 · 22/02/2016 12:04

With active cord management and the use of syntometrin (or similar) injection, it's very unlikely for a uterus inversion to happen nowadays so don't panic katie.

GruntledOne · 22/02/2016 12:16

Sister Monica isn't fasting for Lent. They had that a few weeks ago and she was really struggling. The nurse who made her something to eat specifically commented on that.

SoupDragon · 22/02/2016 12:35

I think the fasting was just to give a link to Cynthia with the mentions f testing the flesh (that's not what they said but I cant remember what word they used!) Sister MJ said it when talking to Cynthia about the fasting and then it was mentioned again when she bathed Cynthia.

Optimist1 · 22/02/2016 12:35

I agree, it's not Lent - they'd all be denying themselves something if it was.

ppeatfruit · 22/02/2016 12:47

Sister Monica has always had a strange 'thing' about food, hasn't she? right from the start, she was walking about eating out of a jar of jam 2 episodes ago.

Yes so no, not Lent, maybe her weird obsession.

Lj8893 · 22/02/2016 13:23

Yeah she has, in the first ever episode it was discussed that they always had to hide cake from her as she would binge it all.

gymboywalton · 22/02/2016 13:35

mortifying the flesh

scarlets · 22/02/2016 14:54

I'm thinking that they might save the Patsy and Delia revelation for the Christmas episode.

The scene between the Sisters in the bathroom was so moving. What amazing acting.

MrsJayy · 22/02/2016 14:55

Not watched it yet Whats the womb thing my dds watch it they already wince at fluid and goo i think if there was a womb thing it would tip them over the edge i want grandchildren Grin

MrsJayy · 22/02/2016 14:57

SISTER Mj was food deprived as a punishment as a child i am sure she said so in an episode way back

Lj8893 · 22/02/2016 15:13

mrsjay short story----a woman had a concealed pregnancy and her mother delivered the baby, the placenta was retained so with some ill advice, she tugged hard on the cord causing the placenta which was still attached to the uterine wall to also pull out the uterus.

MadameDePompom · 22/02/2016 15:16

ARRGGGHHHHHHH!

I'd just managed to out it out of my mind. My legs are staying crossed till the end of time.

Lj8893 · 22/02/2016 15:17

Sorry Blush

MrsJayy · 22/02/2016 15:22

Oh jeez

MargotLovedTom · 22/02/2016 15:40

I know someone this happened to (in hospital thank God). Without going into the gory details, suffice to say it was a horrendous experience for all concerned. She was in Intensive Care afterwards and was lucky to survive. The fictional patient had it "easier" in that there was no haemorrhage.

So sad with poor Cynthia; I cried lots.
Am pleased to see Sr Evangalina returning.
I thought everyone already knew about Trixie and the AA meetings.

Girlfriend36 · 22/02/2016 19:03

It actually made me womb ache watching that episode, we were talking about it at work today and everyone was saying it was too much for pre 9pm.

I liked the bit with Patsy coming back from Delias room and saying they had been 'playing cards'

No idea why Sister Monica isn't eating, normally she is stuffing her face!

mudandmayhem01 · 22/02/2016 19:10

I watch ctm with my 12 year old dd, it has provoked some great discussions especially about why patsy has has to keep her relationship secret which she finds baffling! But last night was a bit much and I wish I had seen it first and not let her watch it. I think she would have been more upset if we had switched it off and not seen the positive outcome from the concealed pregnancy story. Not really pre watershed stuff this week.

Pixel · 22/02/2016 19:21

I've only just managed to watch the last two episodes so I'm catching up with posts going way back. Bear with!

Firstly I hope Tom and Barbara have a Good Life (sorry, had to say that Grin).

Was a very sad episode, harrowing to watch the baby being left by the window-unimaginable now thank God.

I sort of agree with this comment but of course such extensive deformity would be almost certainly discovered quite early on in the pregnancy so the situation wouldn't arise. Disabled babies are still treated very poorly when you consider it is legal to terminate right up until the birth for something like Downs. I don't consider that any better.

I thought they over egged the whole medicalisation of birth in hospital

My mum had me in hospital in the 60s. She tells me it was all very strict, she had to have an enema and was made to lie flat on her back for the entire labour, despite having severe back pain and being desperate to turn over or get up and walk around. The midwives did keep to their shifts regardless of what was happening. The bit about having a cup of tea and no one batting an eyelid at the baby being whisked away struck a chord too, as she was asked if she wanted some tea and gratefully said yes, not realising that it was a choice between tea and me! She didn't see me at all until the next day, and I had no medical problems at all.

Am still really enjoying CTMW which is a relief because so often these types of programmes start running out of storylines and end up just getting ridiculous. Not the case here as they've had some brilliant storylines. The characters are mostly great (Monica Joan gets better and better) and I only find myself shouting at the tv occasionally ha ha. Doctor, Shelagh and Timothy are pains though. Such goody two shoes the lot of them! Had to laugh at them going camping in the pouring rain with their socks and sandals. Angela is gorgeous. She really reminds me of Dd when she was small (she's 20 on saturday ).

Lj8893 · 22/02/2016 19:30

Angela is so lovely!
