...but how will we cope without Martin? Without his warmth and humour won't it be a bit bleak?

OP posts:

One other thing, I think Saga is heading for a major melt down. We have seen some examples of it this series - the kitchen scene (brilliantly done) and the taking down of the cleaner who held the little girl at knife point.

I do like Saga a lot - in fact I'm probably a bit in love with her.

ChippyOik · 02/12/2015 19:59

DeirdreDoo, It's not necessary to say ''Saga is or isn't realistic''. I knew a man just like Saga. So there is absolutely no reason why a woman couldn't be ''just like Saga''.

ChippyOik · 02/12/2015 20:03

DeirdreDoo you're pissed off that the character doesn't do things to appear more normal but you're missing something, she's not motivated too. It would be a lot of effort for her to be giving constant consideration to what is most likely to be perceived as normal in any random social situation. It would be too time consuming. Doing a good job is her motivation.

I know this thread isn't about autism but it's not for one person to judge the character accurate or inaccurate. Every single person with autism is completely different imo.

NeverEverAnythingEver · 02/12/2015 20:41

I love Saga too.

Does anyone remember in series 2 when she had a boyfriend? It was pretty bad... It took a lot of effort to be "normal". I find that in RL too - you go through something (like a diagnosis) and there are all these people (friends/family) watching you, waiting for you to react in a way they expect, and you know what each and everyone of them expects, but it's so much effort ... (and you don't know why you should give them what they expect anyway...) IYKWIM. Sorry for rambling ... Blush

Tirfarthoin · 03/12/2015 15:17

I think that Saga is simply not motivated to fit in, she has no interest in flirting or small talk so to her the sex is not worth the effort. Her approach to getting laid is efficient that is why she liked the idea of a singles night, she thought it sounded efficient.
I think this series is about her 'extreme self control' and if she can maintain it. She is not able to have or express emotion as that would mean a slip of control and she cannot afford that even for a smile.
I find her very believable even though I don't know anyone who has that much self control.

ovenchips · 03/12/2015 22:06

If I am right in recollecting that Saga's mum had Munchausen's by proxy (from season 2), I am wondering if the mum is using the stand-in police chief, Linn, to make people start to believe that Saga is mentally ill?

The mum could be using the fact that Linn has only known Saga a short time (and this time has been when she has been under extreme emotional duress) to manipulate her into believing Saga is mentally ill and incapable of being a police officer (a job she lives for)?

And it will take Hans/Han, her surrogate father, who, unlike Linn, knows Saga so well, to come out of his coma and make people realise that it is Saga's mother who is the mentally ill one.

I also think there is going to be something about siblings/ half-siblings as there seems to be a sort of theme about possibility of having them but not knowing you do?

I'm do confused!!

I don't even remember an art dealer _ help!!

Allofaflumble · 04/12/2015 06:13

Ovenchips that is a great theory. Mum is manipulating Linn now.

NeverEverAnythingEver · 04/12/2015 09:50

I thought Saga is now doubting if she was wrong and her mum didn't have Munchausen by proxy?

In any case, poor old Saga.

I don't remember an art dealer either. But I missed 10 whole minutes of the 1st episode.

eddiemairswife · 04/12/2015 11:37

Thinking back the art dealer must have been when Henrik(is that his name?) was at a viewing and met a girl. You people must be very perceptive, because at the start of any series with unfamiliar actors it takes me ages to work out who's who. And that applies to something in English let alone with sub-titles!

Holstein · 04/12/2015 11:58

He's not a dealer, I think he's a gallery assistant, as he had a uniform and badge on when he spoke to Henryk and the lady he picked-up at the first singles do (she had v short black hair).
The art collector is the rather large chap (who was an MP in Borgen, yes?) that the car-jackers went straight to after ripping the black bag off Jeanette. It looked as though there was an artist working in the background in his house too (the white, modernist, light-filled house).

Good theory ovenchips. Her mother will need even more attention now her father has died, so needs to wheedle her way back into Saga's affections.

Katiekatiekatiekay · 04/12/2015 13:53

I'm off sick today & just watched the whole 4 episodes Smile
Missed martin to begin with but like henrik please don't end up bad!
Like a pp said the combo of subtitles & everything happening in the dark makes it trickier to follow. Love Sofia helin Smile

Katiekatiekatiekay · 04/12/2015 14:02

Imagine if she smiled !
So beautiful...but love the way Saga is, so strong but vulnerable & so blunt Grin

Ooh, ovenchips, interesting. Maybe Saga's mum is trying to make Saga I'll again, by de-stabilising her so she can "help" and be needed. Saga must have had pretty good reason to think her mum had Munchausen's by proxy, to try and escape with her sister.

There is definitely a very strong family theme: Helle Anker's murder set setup in a family tableau/her first conventional family with husband and later unconventional family with her wife, Natalie (?), Henrik 's phantom family that are missing, Saga's mother questioning her family.

Can't wait until Saturday.

NeverEverAnythingEver · 04/12/2015 15:57

I'm actually going to a party on Saturday. Shock I'll never be able to catch up on Dr Who AND 2 episodes of the Bridge over the week ...

I saw Sofia Helin being interviewed on tv with the fellow who played Martin. She was almost unrecognisable. Smilling and laughing and being just, well, fluid, IYKWIM.

On phone so cant link properly, sorry!
The above is a clip from Norweigian talk show Skavlan, interviewing Sofia Helin...and making her take over the show as Saga. Its pretty brilliant! X

RomComPhooey · 04/12/2015 21:48

That is funny! He's so uncomfortable with the direct line of questioning, particularly about his sex life.

glamorousgrandmother · 05/12/2015 13:37

Going back to what someone said about the chloroformer being female. He/she seemed to be wearing a leather jacket like the stalker/funeral director.

glamorousgrandmother · 05/12/2015 15:04

ChiipyOik - like, the swedish social worker. stefan, who relocated the woman and her two children to that little cottage because her husband was aggressive and abusive. Total red herring. His sister drank the poisoned wine. That was the only link in the end to the real plot. Was that The Bridge or was that Arne Dahl?

quirkychick · 05/12/2015 15:07

That was the Bridge, didn't the social worker kill someone so it looked as if he could be the Truth Terrorist? I think he was one of their early suspects.

glamorousgrandmother · 05/12/2015 15:48

Ah, you mean the last series - I didn't think it was in this one.

quirkychick · 05/12/2015 21:34

It was the first series, I think.

I have missed some of this, thanks to pesky children, so will have to rewatch. But loving Henrik for telling Saga she's the best Grin.

MeolsCop · 05/12/2015 21:48

Can I join in? Dh and I are reeling at the latest twist!

TwoDrifters · 05/12/2015 22:05

I HATE Saga's mum. That is all.

quirkychick · 05/12/2015 22:08

Oh, good call about the art installation!
