Anyone watching this? Always wish they would do these things in Old English & Old Norse with subtitles. Matthew Mcfadyen's a bit posh for it. And what was the boy in?

No idea what to expect so hopefully it'll be good!

OP posts:

yes it is, then when I started reading the comments it's seems it was all about sorting out a video game (same one my boys play) now I know why they are interested in the tv programme :o

AmourFou · 29/10/2015 23:15

Grin Bet your DC knew Viking was a verb then!

myotherusernameisbetter · 29/10/2015 23:17

I bet they do! :o I dread to think what they are dreaming about tonight - is it wrong to hope it's more about fighting with swords and axes rather than humping saxon slaves?

AmourFou · 29/10/2015 23:42

No, not at all Grin

hattymattie · 31/10/2015 18:28

Just caught up with it - was unsure about episode one and totally riveted by episode 2 - will need to research my English kings though.

SurlyCue · 31/10/2015 23:13

Just found this thread. I really enjoyed the first two episodes. Does anyone know how long it runs for? I havent seen Vikings yet so cant compare but have been reliably informed by Dsis that the Ragnar in the last kingdom is not the same Ragnar that is in Vikings "dont you know?" Hmm Wink Grin

myotherusernameisbetter · 31/10/2015 23:35

I think it's 8 episodes surly

SurlyCue · 31/10/2015 23:40

Thanks myother

gingerboy1912 · 01/11/2015 15:14

I'm still liking it although I did get a bit confused with who was who in episode 2.

TheSecondOfHerName · 01/11/2015 21:15

Some v.unusual accents amongst the Danes. One sounds South African and another is definitely Welsh. Grin

myotherusernameisbetter · 01/11/2015 21:22

That'd be like me when we went to see Macbeth noticing the occasional Glaswegian accent. DH pointed out that we really don't know what accents people had back then so it could be exactly how they spoke :o

"If you could write then you could write to him... If he could read."

And if there were a postal service of course.

gingercat12 · 03/11/2015 18:45

I really enjoy this, even started looking up the historical stuff. The Ragnar family was fascinating and Alfred and co are great, too. Uthred, I am not so sure about.

Yes i prefer Breda to Uhtred. She seems to have a bit of sense and less of an ego about her. I loved the twig up the bum of yer man Grin

TheSecondOfHerName · 03/11/2015 21:50

She certainly has a good aim.

gingercat12 · 04/11/2015 18:16

Hiya redannie [waves] I am in Tyne & Wear. It is terribly funny, because very little of it (just the seaside scenes) were actually filmed in England and I totally recognise the places where they were actually filmed.

I've just googled and a lot of the filming was done in Hungary.

It's quite distracting when you recognise the locations and they aren't next to each other :) Had that when watching Macbeth, they were tromping about Glencoe, then a quick segway to Ireland and then they are strolling on the beach at Bamburgh.

myotherusernameisbetter · 04/11/2015 19:22

I actually just checked the dates that The Last kingdom and Macbeth were set - at least 200 years between them (I think) so that was plenty of time for them to replace the wooden castle at Bamburgh in TLK for the stone one in Macbeth Wink

gingercat12 · 04/11/2015 21:37

redannie I thought the forest scene was shot in the and around the Danube in Pest county or possibly in Gemenc in Hungary.
