ITV’s six episode thriller series Unforgotten from former ITV drama executives Laura Mackie and Sally Haynes’ fledgling indie Mainstreet Pictures will premiere on Thursday October 8th at 9pm, it has been announced.

Penned by Undeniable scribe Chris Lang, Unforgotten tells the story of an 39 year old cold investigation into the murder of a boy who was killed in 1976. The modern day investigation is run by DCI Cassie Stuart and DI Sunil ‘Sunny’ Khan, who must re-examine the evidence and investigate the key suspects – Robert Greaves, Frank Philip Cross, Lizzie Wilton and Eric Slater – in order to close the case. The series utilises a multi-stranded narrative, set in different parts of the country, which explores and connects each of the principle characters.

The six-parter is produced by Mainstreet Pictures and features a large cast that includes Sanjeev Bhaskar (The Kumars), Nicola Walker (Last Tango In Halifax), Trevor Eve (Waking The Dead), Bernard Hill (The Grid), Ruth Sheen (Our Girl), Tom Courtenay (The Dresser), Gemma Jones (Marvellous), Brian Bovell (Death in Paradise), Cherie Lunghi (Casualty), Hannah Gordon (Hustle), Claire Goose (Mount Pleasant) Tamzin Malleson (Midsomer Murders), Peter Egan (Downton Abbey), and Frances Tomelty (Catastrophe). Ripper Street helmer Andy Wilson was the director.

Beth is named as Lizzie wilton in my tv mag

Yes, the80sweregreat, that is another well-spotted name change (similar to Sir Phillip Cross previously known by his first name of Frank - Frankie C)

Elizabeth = Beth, Lizzie

Oh we'll have this cracked after another couple of episodes Grin

Sad, had to check my TV guide as they had Lizzie not Beth. They said she is a charity worker now, but has dodgy past.
Thanks for tht about the Sir. Easy to change your name if its one with different ways of shortening. A lot of people use middle names as real ones too. Seems they are all in the frame! I hope its not child abuse, but with the last few years with so much in the news about these allegtions, i just have a feeling it might be. :(

Elendon · 09/10/2015 19:27

That was quality viewing. So feeling already for several of the characters, especially the older woman who said she wanted to leave Sad.

Will be checking in next week. Have no idea what's going on, so can't yet give opinions, but I like it.

Thanks for the hat tip op.

On the cast list is Francis Tomelty as someone Sullivan ( cant remember first name) only going to be in one episode, not sure which.
She was once married to Sting from The Police!

If YOU hadn't spotted Lizzie Wilson, we wouldn't have been able to make the connection to Beth in the diary so quickly!

We still don't have a clue yet as to what her connection is with Jimmy or Arlingham Place (where the body was buried).

But you have now reminded me that I have another screenshot to share: A plaque in the team’s changing room which gives us some background on the Wiltons.

In memory of Michael Ray Wilton 1991-2006

Beloved and only son of Elizabeth and Ray.

Always in our hearts.

It was the coach who kissed his hand and placed it on the plaque.

Has anyone got the name of the coach?

Lizzie calls him "Darling" and "Sweetheart" and describes him as "soft as a pudding".

Oh, I have got their connection!

The coach is Ray Wilton (previously married to Lizzie/Beth Wilton)

Deceased son is Michael Ray Wilton 1991-2006

Francis Tomelty as someone Sullivan

Okay, that's another clue.

Frances Tomelty's character is the wife of Father Rob. She's been married to him for 40 years and not had a holiday for 6 years.

But Father Rob's surname is Greaves (played by Bernard Hill)

She is noted in the casting list as Ellie Greaves (played by Hannah Gordon)

I can't find a reference to Sullivan (name of the deceased) linked to Ellie Greaves so far.

Frances Tomelty's character is the wife of Father Rob

That is WRONG - my mistake. Sorry - it is Hannah Gordon who is the wife of Father Rob

I have done a Google (sad I know) and Maureen Sullivan (played by Frances Tomelty) is the grieving mother of the murdered boy. We haven't seen her character yet have we?

No, Jimmys mum not been in it yet.

So Lizzie's son died too? 15, about same age as Jimmy.
Father Greaves wife is not happy, controlling husband? ( she is hannah gordon, brilliant actress)

hollyisalovelyname · 10/10/2015 10:12

Frances Tomelty is an amazing actress. I saw her in some play on stage.
She was married to Sting but he went off with Trudie Styler ( i don't like that woman- I should mention her on another thread that's ongoing at the moment on Mumsnet- Celebrities you dislike).

The80sweregreat · 10/10/2015 12:54

yes, heard Frances is very good , a stage actress usually rather than TV.
Trudie is weird, never took to her as she became friends with Guy Ritchie and Madonna and had a hand in those ' mockney, gritty , silly ' films with Vinnie Jones etc. It was rife for a while those type of films from the type of people who have probably ever been to the real East end in their fabulous rich lives and all live in Notting Hill and places like that. She nicked Sting from under Frances T's nose. says it all really! ( rant over) I used to have a crush on the blond one out the police ( not sting) but I cant recall his name without looking it up..

Blondeshavemorefun · 10/10/2015 22:23

I thought ray the coach was still with LIZZIE and not previously married

Wonder how the mum will take actually knowing her son is dead / all the time while no body you have hope - with a body you have closure

UnderTheGreenwoodTree · 11/10/2015 00:22

Marking place. I thought it was excellent, loved the forensics stuff too - didn't Silent Witness used to be like that many moons ago? Proper forensics, rather than them running around getting into scrapes?

Whatever happened, I think someone in the police was in on it, because the stolen car was at the Police pound, and then mysteriously scrapped.

I too welled up at 'Hello Jimmy, lets get you back home' Sad

Caprinihahahaha · 11/10/2015 07:16

I'm loving the idea that Hannah Gordon was actually Frances Tomelty.
I know frances Tomelty was a little older than Sting but Hannah Gorden must be in her 80s

Blondeshavemorefun

You are correct and I was wrong. I watched the first episode again and because we only see them together in the changing rooms (rather than at home like the other 3 protagonists) I got an impression that they weren't together now. But they are! They also only use terms of endearment with each other, and the boys call Lizzie/Beth "Miss" so we don't even know her name until the names are being read out of Jimmy's diary.

Anyway, the character background says that Lizzie and Ray Wilton live in Croydon (Ray is 2nd generation Jamaican). They lost their son Michael, but are channelling their grief into helping disadvantaged children – in particular a boy named Curtis who comes from a broken home.

However, Lizzie Wilton (Beth) was a different person in the 1970s so she may have information about the death of Jimmy.

eddiemairswife · 11/10/2015 10:20

Hannah Gordon is 74.

The80sweregreat · 11/10/2015 10:27

Lizzie was a shaven haired racist in the 70s, lived with Jimmy in the hostal. He was mixed race. I buy a TV quick each week, its amazing the information you can gleam from a few paragraphs!
Nicola walker, the DCI in this , is also in River on BBC one.
I didnt see her in spooks, but she seems to be everywhere just now.

MeolsCop · 11/10/2015 12:31

DH and I settled down to see this, I fancy a good 'tec drama to get stuck into for the autumn (anyone else watched 'Beck' on BBC4 btw?). Thought this was rather slooooooow but grasped that they're setting up all the characters at the start, so I'll forgive them. Although they did revert to a few cliched lines - 'you're going to want to see this' etc.

Quality cast, I agree.

fuzzpig · 11/10/2015 13:28

Signing in, about to watch on catch up. Loved Broadchurch so thought I'd give this a go

fuzzpig · 11/10/2015 14:34

Ooh those forensic people are unbearably smug.

sadwidow28 · 11/10/2015 15:54

Noooo these forenzicks are lubberly - not self-centred at all (just quietly happy to share their skills).

OP posts:
The80sweregreat · 12/10/2015 10:34

I watched it again yesterday ( whizz through the ads and other bits and its not that long) the opening credits show flashes of fire and matches, could be relevant. I don't think the forensic people are smug as such, maybe its just such a long process with something so old, they are just pleased to help, actually find something? I suppose a lot of real police work now is this, CCTV and computer based work? didn't work out any more clues really. it seems better 2nd time around.

fuzzpig · 12/10/2015 12:40

Thanks for the tip off about River - looks intriguing. I've gone from barely watching any telly (we mainly use our TV for DVDs and sport for DH) to having loads of drama to watch. Hopefully DH will want to watch Midwinter of the Spirit with me as I'm a wuss :o

Maybe it's just me then with the forensic people! I just found the bloke REALLY irritating and their lines felt a bit staged. Not that it takes away from the amazing work being shown of course (and I too loved the 'I think I love you' bit from Cassie, that would be what I said too!)

Blondeshavemorefun · 12/10/2015 13:57

I don't think they are smug

I find it very clever and interesting and tbh bloody amazing what they can manage to find out with their equipment

A fascinating job

fuzzpig · 12/10/2015 14:02

Oh I don't deny that at all. My DSS is doing a forensic biology degree! :o It's just the acting of those two characters I can't get on with for some reason.
