ITV’s six episode thriller series Unforgotten from former ITV drama executives Laura Mackie and Sally Haynes’ fledgling indie Mainstreet Pictures will premiere on Thursday October 8th at 9pm, it has been announced.

Penned by Undeniable scribe Chris Lang, Unforgotten tells the story of an 39 year old cold investigation into the murder of a boy who was killed in 1976. The modern day investigation is run by DCI Cassie Stuart and DI Sunil ‘Sunny’ Khan, who must re-examine the evidence and investigate the key suspects – Robert Greaves, Frank Philip Cross, Lizzie Wilton and Eric Slater – in order to close the case. The series utilises a multi-stranded narrative, set in different parts of the country, which explores and connects each of the principle characters.

The six-parter is produced by Mainstreet Pictures and features a large cast that includes Sanjeev Bhaskar (The Kumars), Nicola Walker (Last Tango In Halifax), Trevor Eve (Waking The Dead), Bernard Hill (The Grid), Ruth Sheen (Our Girl), Tom Courtenay (The Dresser), Gemma Jones (Marvellous), Brian Bovell (Death in Paradise), Cherie Lunghi (Casualty), Hannah Gordon (Hustle), Claire Goose (Mount Pleasant) Tamzin Malleson (Midsomer Murders), Peter Egan (Downton Abbey), and Frances Tomelty (Catastrophe). Ripper Street helmer Andy Wilson was the director.

Well, that knocked Dr Foster into a cocked hat!

Thoroughly enjoyed it. Great cast and intriguing story. Reminded me a bit of some of the recent Scandi dramas in that the characters were believable, not improbably young and glossy.

Gosh - this is a drama that is so well planned that I can't even keep up with the screen-catchers I need to do for you all. Information is given - but you have to be fast to understand and store it. (I do hope that this doesn't become the let-down for this drama.)

I'll do some screen shots for you later - they are using the technical device of phone/text messages (as they did in Dr Foster). Will someone tell the directors that when we are laid prostrate on the MN sofas, drinking wine and eating cheese and onion square crisps, we do NOT want to sit up and get closer to the TV to read the phone messages which are flashed in an instant. (It usually takes me about 3 minutes to find my glasses!)

Yes Grin

That was good. No OTT melodramatic angst and well paced with good acting. Someone wanting to tell a story not win arty photography awards.

MyBoysAreFab · 08/10/2015 23:39

And not an earring twiddle to be seen Smile

Blondeshavemorefun · 08/10/2015 23:40

Soz to hear about your mum Flowers

Weird how numbers are all in the diary. What can it mean?

So do we think one of the 4 did it

Least likely the vicar - so prob him

Agree wheelchair man must have a secret or why wouldn't be move

and you don't ever put cream on a burn

Why didn't he run it under cold water :(

BitOfFun · 08/10/2015 23:51

Blondes, yes, I was yelling at the screen!

The80sweregreat · 09/10/2015 07:18

It shows how forensics have changed so much for the better over the years. makes me wonder how many older cases come to light this way? yep, so many old actors from my youth! good to see older people on the screens and still acting their socks off. loved Bernard hill as yosser hughes!
The rev is obviously stealing money from the church. He was driving out of Canvey and then along Southend sea front past the casino. Not sure where the church is filmed though and he is meant to be living in leigh on sea. The older lady with the young boy going to do his exams, she has been in loads of Mike Leigh films. trouble is , I start looking them up then lose the plot. Rachel ( Tessa peake wright) is looking so old, but I forget that only fools was an 80/90s show.

Chopchopbusybusy · 09/10/2015 07:39

I really enjoyed this too. I might rewatch it as DH kept saying 'what has he/she been in?' and I missed crucial bits!

hollyisalovelyname · 09/10/2015 07:40

UTV Ireland, ITV's channel in Ireland has decided not to show it yet.
GrrrAngry
No wonder UTV Ireland is doing so badly as a tv channel. They should have left it as UTV- Ulster Television which got all the big series.
If it ain't broke why fix it!!!

The80sweregreat · 09/10/2015 07:48

Choc, me too with the 'whats he or she been in before' - I don't always know actors real names either. Ruth sheen, the one with the kids on the football field has been in loads of things ( I did have to look her up) It was just nice that it got on the story and Nicola walker was actually normal, in the last tango in Halifax programme she seemed to have trouble speaking sometimes, but that was just the character I think.
Hannan gorden still has that aura about her. I am going to be a huge fan of this. I just hope it doesn't disappoint and go down hill, but the reviews have been good. Got to be child abuse I think. its pointing that way already.

IvyWall · 09/10/2015 08:40

Tessa Peake Jones is only 58

She was looking good last year www.express.co.uk/celebrity-news/544113/Tessa-Peake-Jones-career-bonobo

NoahVale · 09/10/2015 09:32

i enjoyed it too, thanks to my work colleague who told me to watch. i would've ignored it becuase its ITV
is the vicar a gambler?
he drove past a casino and has no money?
his wife was very cross, for 40 years, is that relevant?
and the dogdy geezer who wont leave the house
i do like sanjeev

NoahVale · 09/10/2015 09:34

yes Ruth Sheen was in a fantastic drama with lesley manville, Another Year . love her

NoahVale · 09/10/2015 09:34

and Racquel? wow

The80sweregreat · 09/10/2015 09:38

Sanjeev is lovely ( i have a crush on him!) the forensics standing back to admire their very patient work was a real joy. Real life forensic experts must have a very rewarding job sometimes. Tough at times too, no doubt.
It is amazing what they can uncover.
The rev is dodgy, missing money. Paying someone off?

PollyGone · 09/10/2015 10:27

Holly, I've just watched it on UTV player. Really looking forward to next week!

hollyisalovelyname · 09/10/2015 11:00

Thanks Polly.
I prefer to watch on the big screen. I think UTV player and UTV Ireland player are different.
It's just a pain.... a big series starts and we, Irish viewers don't get to see them for weeks or months.
Why?
No wonder UTV Ireland is floundering.
Bring back UTV Smile

Blondeshavemorefun · 09/10/2015 14:35

Big screen is better but I happily watched via catch up tv app on my iphone last night as at work

disclaimer I work nights and babies asleep so I can watch tv :)

Clawdy · 09/10/2015 14:42

If it is yet another child abuse story I won't be watching. Maybe the wives will be suspects? That would be a bit different.

sadwidow28 · 09/10/2015 16:39

I have caught up. That's it.... I'm invested!

Characters have been gently introduced, all believable. I am loving the forensic scientists and the way that the police find it all 'very cool'.

"Hello Jimmy. Let's get you home shall we"

I almost welled up at that point! So understated.

So I am 'IN' for next week.

Beth is named as Lizzie wilton in my tv mag. ( played by actress Ruth Sheen)
She is helping disadvantaged black teenagers- james sullivan who died was coloured. I do not feel this is a coincidence. The rev, father Greaves, is stealing money, bet he is paying someone off, being blackmailed?
The Sir has a very ordinary accent to be in such a high position in Govenment. He was being mentioned on the news.
Eric is reluctant to leave the house, why? He was a former book keeper.
Yes, nice line from Cassie about James 'coming home' i wonder if the police would have the resources to look up cold cases like this?
I have an old British airways bag like the BOAG one at my dads. All retro now of course.

sadwidow28 · 09/10/2015 18:14

The Sir has a very ordinary accent to be in such a high position in Govenment. He was being mentioned on the news.

That is Sir Frank Phillip Cross (Trevor Eve) - Frankie C in the diary. Although he comes from a lowly background, he is a self-made millionaire. He has already received a knighthood (hence the title of Sir). It is suggested that there are plans to have him elevated to the House of Lords as the Entrepreneur czar so that was being announced on the news. However, the Prime Minister hasn't rung Sir Phillip yet but he has talked it through with the Chancellor (of the Exchequer) and they think it is 'an excellent idea'. It is being suggested that he become Lord Cross of Frogmore.

It appears that Sir Phillip is a financial backer of the Government.

However, we know that he fell in with the wrong crowd when he was in his 20s.

He’s a bit of an Alan Sugar – a working-class boy made good with a disarming media-friendly bluntness. Alan Sugar was knighted in 2000 (Sir Alan) and then elevated to the Lords as Baron Sugar of Clapton in 2009 (Lord Sugar).
