ITV’s six episode thriller series Unforgotten from former ITV drama executives Laura Mackie and Sally Haynes’ fledgling indie Mainstreet Pictures will premiere on Thursday October 8th at 9pm, it has been announced.

Penned by Undeniable scribe Chris Lang, Unforgotten tells the story of an 39 year old cold investigation into the murder of a boy who was killed in 1976. The modern day investigation is run by DCI Cassie Stuart and DI Sunil ‘Sunny’ Khan, who must re-examine the evidence and investigate the key suspects – Robert Greaves, Frank Philip Cross, Lizzie Wilton and Eric Slater – in order to close the case. The series utilises a multi-stranded narrative, set in different parts of the country, which explores and connects each of the principle characters.

The six-parter is produced by Mainstreet Pictures and features a large cast that includes Sanjeev Bhaskar (The Kumars), Nicola Walker (Last Tango In Halifax), Trevor Eve (Waking The Dead), Bernard Hill (The Grid), Ruth Sheen (Our Girl), Tom Courtenay (The Dresser), Gemma Jones (Marvellous), Brian Bovell (Death in Paradise), Cherie Lunghi (Casualty), Hannah Gordon (Hustle), Claire Goose (Mount Pleasant) Tamzin Malleson (Midsomer Murders), Peter Egan (Downton Abbey), and Frances Tomelty (Catastrophe). Ripper Street helmer Andy Wilson was the director.

I think more than one was present at the murder. That's why they are all covering up.

sadwidow28 · 22/10/2015 22:00

Eric Slater not wheelchair bound until 1979. (car-crash)

Is Eric a wife beater too? Punishing her for saying too much?

sadwidow28 · 22/10/2015 22:03

I am off to ITV+1 to watch it again!

There was so much information in episode 3 and that my head is spinning!

But do not worry folks, I will get it sorted over the next week. Just keep visiting this thread and discuss the information - all theories are welcome.

I'm on plus one now, hope I stay awake through the bits I slept through Blush

Elendon · 22/10/2015 22:10

Sorry quirky yes you did say that and I meant to agree with you!

Elendon · 22/10/2015 22:13

Quirky - yes more than one present at the murder! Wasn't it sad Jimmy's mum said he was happy here Sad

Eric is a sinister bloke and agree he is obviously beating his wife up.

sadwidow28 · 22/10/2015 22:13

Well we know that Eric Slater is currently an emotional and financial abuser (Not sure about physical abuse yet).

That was a brilliant episode - so much in it, and lots of different lies stories from all involved.
Heartbreaking scene at the return to Jimmys "grave". Excellent acting - I am not ashamed to say I cried at that bit. When his mother picked up the handful of earth...

As for all the theories on this thread - fascinating.
I don't want it to be Lizzie, but I think as others have said, there will be more than one of our current suspects responsible for Jimmys death. And possibly someone we have yet to suspect.

Elendon · 22/10/2015 22:22

I still think Joanna is going to shed much needed light on the case.

Also Jimmy will have had a digit removed.

sadwidow28 · 22/10/2015 22:32

The depiction of Maureen (Mum) wanting to visit the last resting place is absolutely correct. (It isn't morbid)

When my DB (who had lived with me for 2 years) died of an alcoholic-induced heart attack as he walked home, all I needed to see was where he died and photographs of the scene as he had been found. Seeing police photos of my deceased brother as he was photographed by the coroner helped me to understand his last moments. I was the person who had to identify my brother's body - so I knew it was him. But knowing WHERE he died and seeing the police photos was so important to me.

Chris Lang has got the sentiments of Maureen/Mam so right. And Cassie (as a Mum) knew that Maureen needed this final closure.

Cross gangster mate selling a story to the papers.......So much for honour among thieves.

sadwidow28 · 22/10/2015 23:08

Now that accusation by Eric Slater about "Father whatisname from St Hilda's" can't be correct.

Father whatisname is Father Rob Greaves

Sadwidow, sad to hear about your brother - I do understand what you mean, people do need to see the last place somebody was before they died. I totally understand the mother wanting to see where jimmy was buried, even If it was 39 years ago. great acting again from Francis Tomelty, not seen her in anything before to be honest.
Eric is obviously beating his wife up. the daughter has cottoned on to the fact her father , Sir Phillip, has a dodgy past. I felt for Curtis, I think he wont continue with his exams now and start hanging out with the gangs around the estate. Lizzie said her boyfriend was an abuser, the reason she was off the rails herself. I am not convinced by this, but can see how it happens. I felt sorry for her husband too - I doubt they will stay together.
it goes to show, the past never goes away much!

Sunnymeg · 23/10/2015 09:46

I think Shirley Cross knows quite a lot as well, mainly because it is odd to see Cheri Lunghi in such an insignificant part. Also think that JoJo and the Rev have more of a past than we think, and that Liz's exboyfriend Vincent will turn out to have been the cause of her son's death.

Also had a Spooks flashback with Ruth and Connie!

The80sweregreat · 23/10/2015 12:06

Vincent is in the frame I bet - Lizzie was very cagey. The rev was 28 at the time and Jo-jo only 17 or 18? maybe she fancied Jimmy and they had a fling, the rev found out and got phillip and lizzie's boyfriend on board to 'teach him a lesson' something like that? really do not know - Cassie knows they are all not telling the truth but it must be hard when its such an old case.

Sweetsweetjane · 23/10/2015 12:20

Excuse me if this has been mentioned before but I thought Eric slater's son seemed very interested in the police interview, he looked quite invested in it as well as trying to quieten his mum at the door when she was talking about washing (the blood). In isolation him silencing her at the door seems a natural response to dementia ramblings but his face at the interview makes me wonder what his involvement/interest is.

AnnieNoMouse · 23/10/2015 12:25

What is the significance of Cassie's comment re the blood after she said good bye to Jimmy's mother?

Openup41 · 23/10/2015 12:39

Sweet Jane - I thought so too. Eric's son looked uneasy. He was quick to close the door on the detectives ensuring they were made aware of his mother's dementia. Perhaps it is for this very reason that he never moved away like his brother. He has to stay close.

In the first episode Eric's sons had a disagreement about one living in London and the other choosing to stay nearby. I am sure the brother in London accused the other of wanting to get his hands on their parent's money when they pass. Perhaps he will be paid for his silence.

Openup41 · 23/10/2015 12:49

I think Eric's wife was referring to Eric's blood stained clothes. He arrived home after killing Jimmy and attempted to clean them with cold water.

Do you remember in the first/second episode that Eric's wife said she wanted to move? Another time she went frantic and shouted that she was going to see Carol and walked to her old house. I think that on the night Eric returned with a bloodstained shirt/top his wife ran to Carol's in horror and due to her illness she appears to be replaying that night in her mind over and over.

Very convenient that Carol now lives abroad...........

So many possibilities.

sadwidow28 · 23/10/2015 14:04

Now I have read all your questions from last night's programme, the dog has been walked and I am ready to go through episode 3 again to capture the clues.

I have to say that whoever suggested going through the open credits (was that the80sweregreat ?) was spot-on! The bolt-cutters were mentioned last night (Sir Philip's chosen method of dealing with debtors.)

I think I did the list on page 8 - but I will go back through that when I have finished grabbing the additional screenshots from episode 3.

Lizzie still has my sympathy by the way. Clearly #csa by her father from aged 12 years and finally told an Aunt when she was 15 yrs old. The Aunt said she would be locked up for her wicked lies so Beth ran away to London. She spent aged 15-17 yrs with the racist boyfriend. When she said "That wasn't me", I believe her.

lisbapalea welcome to the thread, but you have to say what the clue is when you note that Sir Philips daughter keeps her hands in her pockets. I think it just made you irritated so I think I could draft an AIBU for you if that helps:

AIBU to be really irritated by the actress playing Trevor Eve's daughter (Bella Cross) ALWAYS having her hands in her pockets when she is playing a critical role in "Unforgotten". The actress (Zoe Telford ) did the same as a police officer in Silent Witness and I found her in a really old Lewis episode doing the same. I think it's her "thing" to look nonchalant. It grates on me every time I see her.

So AIBU or do you feel the same as I do?

Grin

Do we know why Jimmy had an original key for a stolen car?

sadwidow28 · 23/10/2015 14:50

The names of Arlington House are in the 'credits' newspaper (not in the main episodes yet). I knew I had seen them somewhere.

But I can't get all the names listed under the photo no matter how hard I try.

So here is what I have so far:

....ble residents of Arlingham House as ..... Ravescroft, Serena Birdee, Xantha .....

You can kind of see Lizzie being prepared to do anything, pretend to be someone she wasn't to avoid going back on the streets
