I think the chair thing is daft, and not nearly evil enough. But until they add shark infested waters, or a shepherd's crook, it's the best we have.

In fact actual musical chairs would be more fun.Grin

See y'all later.

Jamie Lawson, 80s. The video is heart rending.

The80sweregreat · 05/10/2015 18:54

Liney, its so sad. Nice voice.
Lets hope the judges houses is not as dragged out as these chair rounds

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 05/10/2015 20:05

I like Little Mix and am a huge 1D fan Blush

I think the best actual singers to come out of X Factor are Matt Cardle, Leona Lewis and Rebecca Ferguson, but apart from Leona (who is doing well in America) I haven't heard anything from them.

And I Could. Not. Stand. Fleur. Dreadful woman.

Raahh · 05/10/2015 20:23

Fleur acting as though she had won, when she hadn't, was the highlight of last yearGrin

Ben Who?Now? will probably release a single to coincide with live shows. That's what usually happens. The follow up singles are invariably flops- with the exception of 'Bleeding Love', and possibly whatever it was that DivaBurke.com released after Hallelujah. (talking about winners' singles, not the rest).

Shane Ward- who is from where I grew up, is now on Corrie, I think? Though he did a musical or two before that. And, shit music reality tv fact fans- his cousin was runner up on the Voice (he was the country singer in series 2? i think).

There have been some very cringey follow-ups.

Of all the non-winners who have done ok, apart from 1D, I actually really like Ella Henderson, though I didn't so much when she was on the show. She seems like a nice girl, and has a distinctive voice (not a generic R and B one). I also likes Rebecca 'she's from Liverpool you know' Ferguson. She still gets a fair amount of airplay round here (Manchester/Northwest), I really liked her voice, but she had the personality of a wet flannel, but seemed lovely.

Olly murs, Stacey Solomon and Rylan are probably some of the most successful ex-contestants. At least they all seem to have made a career out of the entertainment industry even if it's not mainly singing. Though Olly has done a couple of songs which ive liked.

The80sweregreat · 05/10/2015 21:04

I like Olly, although the business with his twins wedding put me off a tad. I do like his songs, again they are catchy! The one with rizzle kicks was good fun.

Roussette · 05/10/2015 21:15

I think the absolute worst was Joe McElderry or however you spell it. The minute he won he sunk without trace.

BitOfFun · 05/10/2015 21:20

Didn't he go onto a reasonably successful career in Musical Theatre?

Leon Jackson won one year, before we did the threads here. His album was unsold in the bargain bin at 45p on the last day our branch of Woolworths was still open.

Raahh · 05/10/2015 21:20

Joe had musical theatre written all over him. Grin.

Although he did re-invent himself as an 'Opera' star on that programme he did. As did Darius (who also changed his surname!).

For me, the most pointless winner was Leon Jackson- I had no idea he was even in the finals until about 3 episodes to the end. He was like an Asda Mickey Bubbles. Even 'Same Difference' would have been more interesting winnersGrin.

x-post Bof Grin

Raahh · 05/10/2015 21:22

We definitely did threads that year- mainly to slate Same Difference , and debate whether we liked Rhyddian or not!

OP posts:
BitOfFun · 05/10/2015 21:24

Ah, I was late to the party then.

Raahh · 05/10/2015 21:25

Obviously, it was no fun without you BoF. Very dull. Grin No salacious sleb gossip or anything.

OMG - Rhydian!! I had wiped my memory forgotten about him! I still can't decide whether he was meant to be a joke act like Wagner or Chico or was actually serious.

I came back to say about Olly Murs and Rylan too. Did anyone watch Celeb Masterchef with Rylan just recently? He was great. I honestly love his attitude about everything, just throwing himself into it all.

Raahh · 05/10/2015 21:52

I think Rhyd was very serious- but I remember Sharon Osbourne hated him- she just didn't get him at all. Plus, he did look a bit strange. He was easy to take the piss out of, even on the same series as 'Same Difference' Grin I grew to like him, and think he was robbed. I'm sure it was deliberate, as it was the year after Leona won, and Cowell was hell bent on her breaking the States- I don't think Simon wanted another big 'act' at the time.

Rhyd did a lovely version of 'O Holy night' back when they still gave a shit about Christmas week Angry.

WhoTheFuckIsSimon · 05/10/2015 22:27

Ah Rhydian, he had a look of the Julian Assange about him didn't he?

Raahh · 05/10/2015 22:34

Grin he did.

Just found this timely article on Digital Spy. Ahh, Sam Bailey- she's not bitter at all.

Sam Bailey

Cowell didn't drop her from his label- he 'set her free' Grin

Love the bit about her son playing minecraft and ignoring Beyonce. I bet she was devastated Grin

bwahahahahahahahaha Grin

OP posts:
Roussette · 06/10/2015 07:24

That article is hilarious Raahh

In bemoaning the fact that Beyonce didn't bother to meet her beforehand Sam Bailey says..
"Who does she thinks she is?"

Errrrrm, one of the biggest stars on the planet?!

She's gone into panto. Thank God for panto for a lot of these X factor winners or runners up!

2rebecca · 06/10/2015 08:11

The year Rhydian didn't win was the only year I watched much of it and was disappointed when he didn't win as he seemed the only person on the show with the "x" factor. These days it seems to be overemotional women who are average singers.
Rhydian's career's doing well though. He's been here as Teen Angel in Grease and played Rocky in The Rocky horror Show as well as doing his singing stuff. Link to a video of him singing Nights in White satin in ? Spanish. I love that song by the Moody Blues and wasn't sure when I saw he'd covered it but it's a different angle on it

The80sweregreat · 06/10/2015 08:55

Rhydian, the Welsh man! I was reading the above thinking of Rylan the Essex one!! yes, I remember Rhydian, he was rejected from Andrew Lloyd webbers search for Joseph programme the year before too. Lee mead won that year, I think.
Sharon wasn't keen on him, it all comes back to me now. how soon I forget.
Sam Bailey, they did through the keyhole on her place, the two guys on Gogglebox were slagging it off as its a normal house, normal street!! I liked her, but knew it wouldn't go far, they loved her in the pleather too. she lost loads of weight. happy days.

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 06/10/2015 21:15

Oh my god oh my god oh my god

She recently announced a one-off show in London and will play a 90-minute Sam Bailey: Live in the West End special at the Lyric Theatre on October 12, 2015.

We should TOTALLY go. It would be the best MN meet up EVER.

Raahh · 06/10/2015 21:21

it would be great.

Pleather jumpsuits all around. Grin

I still haven't got over the fact her baby is called Miley Bailey.
