Rob Lowe has aged very well.

RockNRollNerd · 10/10/2015 17:12

I'm loving this show; I think because it's premise is different from pretty much anything else on at the moment (possibly even anything else I've seen in a long time). I love how there is the whole arc plot of how these characters are going to come together and I think everyone in it is great. They've given us a hell of a lot of insight into the characters already with very short scenes in some cases (eg the President) and I love the little reveals (eg the NSA guy as the brother).

And yy to Rob Lowe ageing extremely well. He was on the Nerdist podcast recently if anyone wants to hear more of him - it was very good and he's an interesting and funny chap.

CherylTunt · 10/10/2015 19:29

I'm also a huge fan of The Office and P&R. I saw Megan Mulalley on the credits and couldn't figure out who she was - am Shock that that was her as the prisoner! Wow!

gingercat12 · 10/10/2015 22:48

Blondeshavemorefun Thanks for the Will & Grace photo.

They must be having tremendous fun doing these shows sometimes. Just imagine the fun when Ron Swanson fell under Tammy 2's spell and turned up in the office in dreadlocks and a dressing gown. If I was the director of Apocalypse, I would have not shown Nick Offerman his wife's new look until their scene together, and then filmed his face Grin.

Rob Lowe is fantastic. For me he totally reinvented himself. I find him more attractive now than in his earlier films.

But what happened to Jenna Fischer's brother in the film? Why is he shot in the stomach? That is not good. Can we still Jenna Fischer Pam? She seems to be the same sweet character as in The Office.

Ledkr · 11/10/2015 17:35

Just marking place as I'm catching up now.
I like it too. Very refreshing.

LittleBairn · 11/10/2015 20:41

OMG I've watched both episodes and I didn't realise the actress who played Megan was Karen from Willand Grace! She looks so different.
I'm really enjoying this funny but poignant plus Rob low as a naughty priest.

BrandNewAndImproved · 11/10/2015 20:53

Second episode was better, the story lines are coming together more! Really looking forward to the third.

I love the Slough part!

BaconAndAvocado · 11/10/2015 21:34

Loved it!

Really really funny and can't wait for the next episode.

BagelSuffragette · 11/10/2015 22:39

YY gingercat and nerd

Jesus, I hadn't quite realised it was Karen from W&G! I thought it sounded like her in the 2nd episode (only watched tonight) but didn't quite believe it.

Am looking forward to telling my DD that Ron Swanson is in next episode - he was just so so brilliant in P&R.

Don't you think Amy Poehler should have won for P&R at the Emmys? Think it's a very underrated show, the writing is just fantastic.

And a big YY to Rob Lowe. He looks soooo good. I like his banter with the nun.

Nice twist that Jenna's (what is her characters name, God I've already forgotten) has the brother in govt.

Funny to think the whole Slough "joke" goes straight over the heads of an American audience

Blondeshavemorefun · 11/10/2015 23:41

Amazing make up eh and a blonde wig does

Obv actors change voices for characters - but so unlike Karen from w&g !!!

And yes Mr Lowe

I adored him in st Elmos Fire - and that was 30yrs ago !!!!!!!!!!!

He has ages sooooooooo well

thunderbird69 · 12/10/2015 12:16

Had no idea that was the actress from Will and Grace!

She reminded me of Billie Whitelaw.

RomComPhooey · 15/10/2015 00:03

Rob Lowe has aged very well.

DH and I were discussing this earlier. DH said that if he's had cosmetic surgery, it is really, really good because he looks like he's ageing normaly but gracefully - furrowed brow, subtle crows feet etc. His face actually moves when he's acting, unlike so many others. I might have had a bit of a funny turn when he was standing in the doorway of the Polish hospital in his dog collar. Mmm hmm.

Yes, I like the way this is shaping up and I'm finding the combination of Rhonda and Leanne on the lam hilarious, especially with the whole police car thing tonight. And the cross-dressing redneck. Megan Mulalley is a hoot.

On the whole, the cast seem to be having a whale of a time. If they're faking it, they're doing a terrific job.

gingercat12 · 16/10/2015 12:34

RomCom Now I know what you meant by Rob Lowe standing in the doorway of a Polish hospital. Wow! Although my favourite scene was when he asked the sister to explain the word pervert Grin

I also had the impression that they were all having fun. Nick Offerman in a dress with curly hair and Paterson Joseph camping it up... I just love Jenna Fischer and Megan Mullaly together. Proper comedy Thelma and Louise. They all constantly play dressy-up. It is a bit like Parks & Rec where you can sometimes see people looking at the floor smirking, desperately trying not to burst into a laugh.

I was laughing so loudly that DH came down to see what was going on.

Do we think giraffe-girl is Jamie's daughter?

howtorebuild · 16/10/2015 12:59

Yes, Jamie's daughter. Is the baby Ariel's?

I had to explain some of the religious significance to my dc. My fault falling short in educating them.

For others unaware:

Ariel = Jerusalem
Jamie = James = Jacob = Israel, the twin in Genesis, the Mum saved him from being killed by his evil twin and a seven year issue with a bride.
Mary Mother of Jesus
Dave = David the warrior
Father Jude = patron saint of lost causes
White horse = One of four of the apocalypse

Please share the bits I missed.

RomComPhooey · 16/10/2015 17:02

Do we think giraffe-girl is Jamie's daughter?

Absolutely.

I got the white horse reference to the four horsemen of the Apocalypse, but the rest of it passed me by.

RomComPhooey · 16/10/2015 18:12

Is the giraffe the brown horse?

RomComPhooey · 16/10/2015 20:00

Ok, so red horse next.

gingercat12 · 16/10/2015 20:07

howtorebuild Thanks a lot. I only got the horses, too.

RockNRollNerd · 17/10/2015 11:26

Another one who had most improper thoughts about Rob Lowe as a Priest Grin.

Caught up on this week's episode - am still loving it. I'm guessing that the person behind all the plastic who gave them the file is Mary (I think the 'next time' pretty much confirmed it as Jamie was going to the same place the 'shadowy agents' had gone to. Presumably she's some sort of prophet type thing. It's all the little touches that make it so great - did you spot the orange jumpsuited character in the Rapture model?

Is the soldier in the bunker with them at the start the NSA brother (can't remember his name)? And Giraffe Girl is presumably the one banging the prosthetic leg - I'm so crap with facial recognition that I can't really tell any of them other than Jamie/Arial and the nun Shock.

RomComPhooey · 17/10/2015 19:21

And Rob Lowe too, Rock?

DH says the injured guy in the bunker is definitely Rhonda's NSA brother. I couldn't tell either.

TheTravellingLemon · 17/10/2015 19:23

Marking my place to come back and read this after dinner. I am really enjoying it.

RomComPhooey · 17/10/2015 19:24

Much as I love Rhonda and Leanne as a comedy pairing, Rob Lowe and the nun have all the best lines and banter. When she finally sheds her wimple I think she'll be stunning. Question is, will Rob Lowe succumb to temptation?

gingercat12 · 17/10/2015 20:53

romcom Isn't that the whole point when the world is ending? Wink
