Series 2 about to start in France, but all I can find about it being shown here is that it will be in the autumn. Does anyone know any more?

Meanwhile, series 1 is 4OD, it's obviously my duty to watch it to remind myself of the background.

Nathan was a changeling, like Victor.

Shirkingfromhome · 05/12/2015 00:07

So Victor unintentionally bought the dead back when he tried to save his Dad (i remember the butterflies from series one). He had to lead them back again. But Lucy & Victor were both already dead? Confused

Did Adele kill herself in the woods and she joined Simon when they crossed over in the cave? with no regard for her children

Nathan is like Victor? Victor whispered to Lucy 'he's like me.....look after him.....'

They've left it a bit open for series 3 but I think I began to lose interest in the end to be honest.

custardcreamdreams · 05/12/2015 00:30

I thought Julie died too and that was like her version of heaven? Grin

Also thought Adele had killed herself as she appeared with the wedding dress on, though no idea as to who the cave dude was.

Wondered if maybe I had lost certain parts as dd was gurning through some of it but maybe I would have been just as baffled with full concentration.

PloptheBarnOwl · 05/12/2015 08:46

Lots of questions... was Mr Lewanski a revenant if Victor managed to bring him back from the dead? If so, why wasn't he walking around with the others? What happened to Serge? He was last seen slashing his wrists in the underpass- surely he realised killing himself was pointless? And why was Adele in her wedding dress when she came back as a revenant? Her non-wedding was 10 years earlier. Poor Chloe- biological father, stepfather and mother all dead.

I hope there's no series 3- Victor's voice will break soon, and that will royally stuff up any flashback sequences!

Shirkingfromhome · 05/12/2015 10:17

And we never found out about the significance of the dead animals? Were they eaten by the returned who couldn't be reunited with their loved ones? What happened to Audrey's father after Sandrine died? Did he leave with the rest of them? Why didn't he visit his daughter or his wife? Does Audrey stay dead now that she's been killed twice or is she reunited with her mum?

BitOfFun · 05/12/2015 14:19

The entire thing utterly baffled me, but my French has improved slightly.

winewolfhowls · 05/12/2015 14:40

I thought camilles family were all giving each other knowing looks in the car and I thought they were going to drive off the corner where camille died then Chloe would be with her family too.

Cant see how there could be a third series

LetBartletBeBartlet · 05/12/2015 16:25

I have no clue what just happened, and there isn't even a catch-up blog on the Guardian yet Hmm

Alohamora · 05/12/2015 17:47

Well that was as clear as mud!

Where did all the Returned go?

Will Camille's family get away or just drive round in circles like has happened to others driving that road?

Who was the slimy guy?

If Nathan is like Victor does that mean Victor is himself the son of a Returned person? How old is Victor?

So many questions!

rosy71 · 05/12/2015 18:49

I think it's the type of programme where you're supposed to think & draw your own conclusions. I also think certain things are symbolic. Obviously, people can't really come back from the dead so any explanation isn't going to be totally grounded in the believable.

Victor brought the dead back by mistake when he tried to bring his father back. I think he is very old with some sort of special powers, what, I don't know. The dead needed to go back to where ever they came from. During the course of the programme both the living & the dead realised the dead couldn't return & things carry on as before. However, Simon & Adele were somehow reunited (Did she die but in the "afterlife" was able to finally marry Simon?) as were Julie & Victor. I thought she jumped into the hole full of water but he brought her back & the others left.

I imagine the issue of Camille's family & Chloe would be sorted after the events of the end of the programme, so we don't see them. Perhaps you're supposed to work it out yourself.

Lucy & Nathan I think were a bit like Victor.

I may be wrong!

MrFMercury · 05/12/2015 20:28

LetBartletBeBartlet excellent user name and I've been refreshing the Guardian page since it finished last night. I'm most put out by their tardiness.

brittanyfairies · 06/12/2015 11:03

I've got to say, I don't get it. Did Adele die then? Was that her dying when she collapsed in the forest? Poor Chloe.

Did we ever find out which policeman's body never turned up? Was that Laure with Julie at the end? I can't remember what she looked like.

Why leave the baby with a random family?

It's left me with more questions than the end of series one.

I am going to try and watch the new French series that was advertised, my French is definitely improving watching these programmes.

qazxc · 06/12/2015 11:05

I think you only drive round in circles if you have a returned in the car, it's only them that can't leave.
Although presumably that doesn't apply to Victor anymore as he is off at the beach, maybe because he's got Nathan to replace him? He doesn't need to be one that warns people (the dam, the coach (I think he was there to try and stop the accident), Esther in the tunnel,....).
Presumably the returned have now crossed over to the other side along with Simon and Adele.
What will happen to poor Chloe? Who or what is Lucy? Why did Serge not go with the rest of them and is in instead rotting in the tunnel?

qazxc · 06/12/2015 11:09

The missing body ended being Thomas , Adele's fiance, so all of them are dead.
The girl on the beach with Julie was the nurse from the hospital.
Nathan is replacing Victor/Louis so has to stay in the town, and find random family to look after him. Presumably Lucy thought "oh look, they have nice bikes/family home for him. They'll do."

iwantgin · 06/12/2015 22:37

Oh lala! I have just watched it and am not really sure what has happened.

Most are dead. Adele is for sure. Either the old crone in the cave killed her, or when she collapsed in the woods?

I did think that when camille family were driving away and giving each other knowing looks that perhaps he was going to drive off the road into the damn.

Will there be a series 3?

Hope so!

FuckyNell · 06/12/2015 22:39

Chloe is kind of replacing camille

MagzFarquarson · 06/12/2015 23:03

I loved it - I even cried when Camille and Lena said goodbye Smile

Still too many unanswered questions, but at least we know why their skin started to deteriorate - was it Audrey who said it happens when we're not with the others?

Perhaps Serge will have a long, painful no-return death in the tunnel, as his body is degenerating and all the other revenants have gone?

And poor Berg! told his dad he needed him and he just said 'I don't know who you are' and fecked off Shock

iwantgin · 06/12/2015 23:33

Mm yes I did think that Lena was quite attached to Chloe.

Also. Yes, Serge. I thought they had to all be together? Yet he was still in the subway looking moody.

I have saved most of the shows so I can re visit and see if I missed anything vital.

Blondeshavemorefun · 08/12/2015 18:13

Totally confused. Doesn't take much I'm blonde

explaination e8

LizzieMacQueen · 08/12/2015 19:32

I thought the creature in the cave was Simon, he led Adele by the hand I recall.

Maybe it was to show us what the revenants look like when they were in their natural dwelling place underground.

I agree that Chloe is Camille's replacement in that family.

So the denouement was that as someone is dying the dead gather round to take them to the 'other side' - but in this case Victor brought them all back when he only meant for Mr Lewanski to return.

I'll go and read the Guardian article now.

Shirkingfromhome · 08/12/2015 19:57

Thanks for the link Blondes I think I'll just enjoy it as a great programme and not worry my little head about its meaning Smile

Blondeshavemorefun · 09/12/2015 16:10

I thought simon was the creature in the cave ......

So victor brought them all back as he wished for his dad to come back?

Victor is special / as is adeles baby who was dumped on a doorstep

Did Julie go onto have a baby /adopt victor with the nurse?

Where did they all go? Into the water/hole?

Did camilles family escape?

Did bergs dad not want to be with his son?

As in if camille stayed why didn't the others?

Tbh I thought was a Crap ending and the guardian recap helped explained things tho still didn't make sense

AnneEyhtMeyer · 10/12/2015 16:22

Late joiner - but thanks all, this thread has made things a bit clearer.

I am desperate for a third series. I really want to know Victor's story.

I thought Camille's family's "knowing looks" were the precursor to them killing themselves.

This series was so well cast. Even the extras were convincing.

iwantgin · 10/12/2015 17:18

Ah yes, maybe Simon was the old crone in the cave.

I need more of The Returned. I do not want to wait two years again

AnneEyhtMeyer · 10/12/2015 17:24

Me neither Gin, I struggled waiting so long last time.
