Corrie Thread - you know it is bad when the best storyline is about a dog

Time to start a new thread. Hopefully by the time this one has finished there will have been a terrible disaster and half the current cast will have disappeared.

At least Jazz-hands-Andrea is on her way out. I'd be grateful if she would take a coach-load with her.

What actual building qualifications do Tony and Jason have? I know Jason has worked in building for some years, but Tony seems a bit dodgy. I was thinking about the manhole......they seemed to dismiss it as unused without consulting any sort of documents. I was wondering if it was still in use to deal with any excess overflow and Callum's body has acted as a plug to prevent the water draining away.

AnguaResurgam · 09/10/2015 14:01

I'm not sure Tony's past is well enough known. He may well have picked up qualifications or have extensive experience; not sure how old he is, but plenty of scope for years of back story.

OTOH Jason was late teens when he first arrived (15 years ago, that went quickly and so much of it in the same vest) so we do know all about his post-school life. He became a builder as apprentice to Charlie Stubbs, but I can't remember if he did any formal qualifications alongside.

SymphonyofShadows · 09/10/2015 14:54

Swallowing that thing about Kym Marsh's eyes reminded me of Catherine Tate's 'Nan' saying "one eye looking at ya, the other eye looking for ya"

I sure I remember them having some plans of the drains and saying that the manhole was to do with the old burnt down factory's drainage. Which kind of presumes that the garage and house can't have much in the way of foundations but still, we have had to suspend belief over much less specialist things! Grin

Rachel0Greep · 10/10/2015 14:33

Yes, there was definitely a mention of factory drainage.

I'm wondering if Kirk suddenly announcing, last night, about the height of the factory floor, above sea level, is relevant. Is it possible Callum's body somehow slithered out, and actually is in the canal. Far fetched, I know, but I guess anything is possible in soap. Grin
Otherwise, they will have to pull the body out of the manhole, hardly suitable viewing, for early evening. Shudder.

SymphonyofShadows · 11/10/2015 06:02

I wondered if the girl who was at the reception area in the police station was reporting someone missing? It seemed that way and would conveniently explain away the other body, which was really only a plot device for Sarah losing it.

AnneEyhtMeyer · 11/10/2015 11:57

Rachel that would be an excellent way for the body to be found without ever being linked back to the Platts. Sadly the scriptwriters haven't got the same level of imagination as you.

I do not like the new girl in corrie...!

southeastdweller · 11/10/2015 12:36

Twenty years ago in Brookie, Trevor Jordache was found after an underground leak meant the close had to be dug up. He was discovered two years after being killed - really hope the story in Corrie doesn't last anywhere near that long. I can't remember if we ever saw the corpse of Trevor.

desperatehousewife21 · 11/10/2015 12:39

Lol at Kym Marsh's eyes in different directions!! They do! Grin

AnneEyhtMeyer · 11/10/2015 12:44

I seem to remember seeing Trevor Jordache's hand - am I imagining that?

Hadn't noticed KM's eyes before (apart from their rolling while she folds her arms) but yes, they do go in different directions!

OP posts:
AnneEyhtMeyer · 11/10/2015 12:49

A quick Google and I found the Youtube of the discovery including the hand:

Can anyone with building experience give an explanation as to why the concrete over the manhole has failed to dry out? As far as I recall they didn't just put concrete over the cover, but on the surrounding area as well.

Rachel0Greep · 11/10/2015 15:28

Thank you Anne. Grin
I am sure it's completely illogical, on my part, but I really did wonder why was Kirk suddenly going on about how high the factory floor was above sea level. I would love if they did dig up the infamous manhole and there was nothing there.
I also believe that if they told Tony, he would help them sort it out.

Clockstooticky · 11/10/2015 16:36

anne that made me miss brookside!

ProfYaffle · 11/10/2015 16:46

Oh yes, I remember Trevor Jordach's fresh as a daisy hand!!

AnneEyhtMeyer · 11/10/2015 17:45

The soil in Brookside Close obviously has miraculous preserving properties!

It would be brilliant if the body wasn't there, Rachel. And agree with everyone who has said Tony would help them.

I will ask my uncle about the concrete. I expect though that he'll either give me a long, complicated, impossible to understand explanation, or tell me that it is a load of rubbish and the scriptwriters don't know what they're talking about!

OP posts:
AnneEyhtMeyer · 11/10/2015 18:21

OK, according to my uncle (civil engineer) the only reason the concrete would look like that is water, probably because water has come up in the storm and the body has blocked it draining away. Cold would not have caused this, cold would have made the concrete crumbly.

However, it is not realistic. Firstly, it wouldn't have been so obvious, the colour would have been a lot paler, not so distinct. Secondly, the shape is wrong. The shape wouldn't have been the shape of the cover, it would have been irregular, due to capillary action.

I asked him about the "body carried away to the canal" theory. Again, it is unlikely as it would probably get stuck, but is a possibility for a plot theory. He did like this theory plot-wise (he's a Corrie fan)

In a nutshell, they've used a hell of a lot of dramatic licence.

eddiemairswife · 11/10/2015 18:40

It will be interesting if they come up with an explanation. I would have expected Tony (as an experienced builder!!) to insist on a further investigation, even though David objected.

ajandjjmum · 11/10/2015 20:57

Bit of a cowboy though isn't he eddie - remember the inferior plasterboard in Fizz's loft conversion!! Grin

eddiemairswife · 11/10/2015 22:24

I think Tony is a dodgy character altogether.

southeastdweller · 11/10/2015 22:34

That Brookie clip took me back. Quite gruesome viewing pre-watershed.

No Corrie tomorrow because of football Angry

eddiemairswife · 13/10/2015 19:17

Maria goes next week. About time too, she's out and about with the baby so they left it until the last minute.

desperatehousewife21 · 14/10/2015 17:03

I thought that too she must've worked right up to the end!

AnguaResurgam · 14/10/2015 19:55

Tony: 'so he's gone to ground?'
David: 'you could say that'

Grin
PesoPenguin · 14/10/2015 20:00

There were a couple of real laugh out loud moments tonight! David, Tracey, Amy and Mary were all funny. Hopefully things are looking up...

It's just a shame the Callum's body storyline is ruining it. It's really dragging on and not a nice thing to have to keep thinking of!
