I am so happy that this is returning after all the doubt (cancelled, would it be available online only etc, etc)!!

I will be lining up my craft red ales and settling back for a great evening's entertainment. Anyone else care to pull up a pew and join this thread?

Wow, it went a bit Game Of Thrones there for a moment Shock If anyone else watches it, I had 'The Mountain and The Viper' ep in my head in between marvelling at how big MMc's hands are and how long his eyelashes are but what actually happened was just as brutal as anything on GOT. WTF was Susan thinking? She knew exactly what she was doing there and that Reid would do that. The solicitor must have a pretty tight hold over her for her to sink that low. I thought the reactions of the others, esp. Drake and Jackson, were really good, too, during the Susan scene and the last scene.

MMc was superb in that episode, he portrayed Reid's depression, despair and rage so well. I had a tear in my eye when he was in his daughter's room and just looked despondent at his loss Sad The way he delivered the We are the abyss line was chilling. And when he had that man up against the wall, his rage, then the revelation, then the horror of it all, followed by the Tranquil Fury, was so well done.

I can't see them killing off Reid, they just can't. I wonder if the insanity plea was around then? grasps at straws

The horrible solicitor fellow was also in Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell, again as a weasly, murderous sidekick.

I'm not sure he has got a hold over Susan, I think they've just gone so far in their villainy, there's no turning back.

As an aside, I want Drake and Rose to get married!

Part of me hopes you're wrong as Susan was ambitious and fairly ruthless before, but she wasn't outright cruel. She knew Reid would kill that man and I don't think she would have told him such lies, knowing the consequence, in the previous series. Plus she kept the fact that Matilda is alive and just a few doors away from Reid from him. Arguably it was for Matilda's own good, as she's not ready to see him, but she could have explained that to him... I don't know, it just seemed very out of character, although it has been 4 years so perhaps she's just become bitter?

As an aside, I want Drake and Rose to get married!

Nah, she's not good enough for him, because she thinks she's too good for him :p

Can anyone explain why the main men were all hating each other at the start - I can't remember what happened at the end of S2. Thanks!

ChiefClerkDrumknott · 11/08/2015 14:16

Didn't Reid try to get Drake to kill the man he was fighting in the boxing ring?

Valsoldknickers · 14/08/2015 21:46

No Edmund Reid tonight (so far). Do you reckon he'll show up again? DH reckons so as Long Susan still has his daughter.

Reid looking all ruffled-haired and broad-backed at the end, there Wink

theconstantvacuumer · 14/08/2015 22:57

I'm not on board the Reid train, he has a face like a mournful potato.

A good episode tonight though.

Last night's episode was so good. I really want Drake and Rose to be together. Loved Rose's rendering of There's A Tavern In The Town. It's usually sung as a rousing pub song, and I've never heard those other sad verses at the end.

"Loved Rose's rendering of There's A Tavern In The Town."

Heads, shoulders, knees & toes??Grin

diddl · 16/08/2015 16:53

There are going to be two more series!!!

Clawdy · 16/08/2015 19:44

Haha, hadn't noticed the tune was the same, diddl ! The "Tavern" has been around a good bit longer than "Heads..." though!

diddl · 16/08/2015 20:20

Oh yes, Tavern is the older song, but I guess a lot of nursery rhyme tunes are from traditional songs.
