Oh I love this. Never seen it before.
The bride sounds like Caroline Ahearne in the Royle. Family.

Can't see that marriage lasting at all.
He definitely had a LD. I don't know if she knew or thought his childishness was endearing.

'Mini Golf because we always play it when we go to Port Aventura'Hmm

Narp · 21/08/2015 09:52

I think she knew. Or maybe she knew but didn't understand. There was repeated reference to him not being able to cope without her emotionally. I was intrigued by someone who would want to take on what seemed to me to be a really 'caring' role. maybe she was too young to have experienced a different type of relationship or maybe it suits her to be in control.

the more i think about it, the more uncomfortable it makes me that they appeared in this and the programme was edited and narrated to just make him seems feckless (assuming i'm right that he's got LD)

And that they'd put themselves out there for criticism when he does seem so vulnerable.

The free wedding just over-rides all considerations I s'pose

DowntownFunk · 21/08/2015 09:53

I'm intrigued. Didn't see this one, going to find it on catch up.

Narp · 21/08/2015 09:54

Downtown

It's the most gob-smacking one I've seen.

purplemunkey · 21/08/2015 10:35

Ah, having only seen the last 15 mins I didn't pick up on any potential LD or vulnerabilities the groom may have had.

Jumping in at the end it just seemed ludicrous to me that he would think getting married on roller skates in a sports hall would be a good idea when she so obviously didn't. I would have thought you'd be able to guess that about a partner.

Perhaps I should watch the whole thing on catch up.

DowntownFunk · 21/08/2015 14:28

Watched it and thought he was bad, yes, but definitely not the worst I've seen on DTTB.

I wish they'd do more same sex couples and older couples. A kids organising their mum and dad's wedding special episode would be fab also.

Narp · 21/08/2015 14:35

Downtown

The most selfish groom I've seen recently (apologies if it was mentioned earlier in thread), was the guy who left the army for his then GF, then organised an army-themed wedding. You don't need to be Freud to work out whose needs were being served with that one

DowntownFunk · 21/08/2015 14:45

I noticed that one on iPlayer. I'll have to have a look. I think I must be watching repeats and not the new ones because I didn't recognise anyone on iPlayer. D'oh.

Tiredemma · 21/08/2015 14:48

Anyone else think that the new series just has ridiculous weddings? rave? on top of a mountain?

I enjoyed it more when it was the early days when it wasnt so obvious that the groom was going to be a complete nobhead.

notquitehuman · 21/08/2015 15:56

Yeah the weddings are ludicrous this season, and never seem to be legally binding so they've still got the faff of going to a registry office afterwards. They should make it a requirement that they legally get married on the day, otherwise it's just going to get stupider.

Tiredemma · 21/08/2015 15:59

Im sure we have discussed this before anyway- im sure that most normal people applying to go on would have had some kind of discussion leading up to the event outlining things that they like/dont like??

EmpressKnowsWhereHerTowelIs · 21/08/2015 20:53

This groom's a right childish twat.

Chippednailvarnish · 21/08/2015 20:55

I'm just watching the one where he tried to get her to jump out of a plane.

They actually deserve each other!

EmpressKnowsWhereHerTowelIs · 21/08/2015 21:08

That's the one I was watching. I'm sure there are some episodes where rhey only get married because they'd have to pay the cash back otherwise!

Chippednailvarnish · 21/08/2015 21:36

I'd pay £12k not to marry either of them!!!!

Katie2001 · 21/08/2015 21:39

They did at least one series in Ireland. Those were lovely weddings (although probably not considered 'good TV').

carabos · 22/08/2015 09:21

Just watched Jaydene and Luke - he's either got a LD or a drug problem, but you wouldn't know from the way his mum talked to him if indeed it is a LD. It seemed that everyone just thinks he's a bit immature. I found it quite difficult to watch tbh. There's no way he will cope when an actual child comes along.

I'd like to see a reverse - where the bride wants off-the-wall funky and the groom wants traditional.

EachandEveryone · 22/08/2015 12:33

My friend works with adults with LD and said he acts More like he's had a brain injury

Davros · 22/08/2015 12:53

And people with LD can get married but the partner ought to be aware at least

Tiggeryoubastard · 22/08/2015 13:16

Part if his immaturity must be down to his upbringing. His mother and grandmother were absolutely ridiculous.

Narp · 22/08/2015 16:45

Tiggery

It could be that, but it seemed to me that it could be they treat him differently because he has some sort of vulnerability

EachandEveryone

That's interesting. Maybe he's had a brain injury. There was no mention of him working, was there? That might fit.

Narp · 22/08/2015 16:48

According to The Maidstone Herald, the groom took the bride's surname. Unusual

EmpressKnowsWhereHerTowelIs · 22/08/2015 16:57

Just watched Jaydene and Luke too, and I'm really lost as to why she's marrying him. If and when they have a baby, I can see him being jealous because someone else needs looking after more than he does.

notquitehuman · 24/08/2015 12:13

I can totally imagine him being up for having babies because 'OMG I love toy shops', then getting pissed off because he's not the priority anymore. If they ever broke up he'd definitely be the classic Disney dad.

StableButDeluded · 25/08/2015 22:40

For those wondering about which couples stay together (and don't we all?) I have it on good authority that the wrestling couple Mike and Becky from 2012 are divorced, tand she is now remarried.
