Missed the beginning - are they living on that island alone? What are the kids going to do when they're teenagers?

OP posts:
cosmicglittergirl · 29/06/2015 21:53

When the kids come to stay do they have to sleep in that hut and keep the fire going?!

DustBunnyFarmer · 29/06/2015 21:53

Yeah, I bet going off the grid in the Arctic circle makes it tricky for the CSA to track him down for maintenance payments.

Do we have any idea how they are supporting themselves?

MmeLindor · 29/06/2015 21:55

I stopped watching now. His kids are his life, which is why he's moved to the middle of nowhere and SKYPES them. He's not sending them any money, I presume then.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 29/06/2015 21:55

They get £200 a month for managing the land.

DustBunnyFarmer · 29/06/2015 21:57

The bloke is happy in the Arctic and wants for nothing, but do you think his partner ever wants kids?

DustBunnyFarmer · 29/06/2015 21:58

DH: Christ alive! (To Richard flinging off his towel and hurling himself into the snow.)

cosmicglittergirl · 29/06/2015 21:59

I think she does as he says.

DustBunnyFarmer · 29/06/2015 22:00

Could be right Cosmic.

TheSpottedZebra · 29/06/2015 22:07

Yes, I thought the same re maintenance for those kids who are his life. Hmmm.

susiedaisy · 29/06/2015 23:19

Cosmic I think you're right, she looks at him all starry eyed he is obviously king of his own little castle there. Although hats off to him for his resourcefulness

susiedaisy · 29/06/2015 23:21

Kevin said son and daughter from previous relationships so I presume two different women. And how the hell did he clean 250 wheelie bins a dayShock

RedandYellow24 · 29/06/2015 23:23

Thought they made a big deal if they both had good jobs and his business yet moved there with just £2000 hardly a lot to set up your life.

Was odd of them not to share their living space or why was so far away from the house given if he couldn't get fire started he could have frozen by the time he walked back in the dark.

Yet again another let's make him walk from the station when surely in a dog ride it would have been quick and easy.

MmeLindor · 29/06/2015 23:27

Someone on Twitter shared his company website. He does adventure holidays there and in Wales apparently.

susiedaisy · 29/06/2015 23:44

I'm guessing with 54 dogs he must do quite a bit of tours for the public. But maybe keeping the dogs and child maintenance takes up all his money?? I suspect we don't get told the whole truth about the financial side of things. But I think it's safe to assume none of these families are doing this on a shoe string

susiedaisy · 29/06/2015 23:46

The Belize family last week are on the workaway website where people stay for free bed n board in return for helping out on the land. But that never got a mention. Which was why they had some many different huts.

cosmicglittergirl · 30/06/2015 07:39

I wonder why they don't mention this stuff?
This one and Belize have both featured incredibly capable, but verging on unhinged men and equally capable, but sligjtly submissive men. The Welsh guy was much less unpleasant than the Belize chap, but he was still guarded about their life and choices, which I found odd.

cosmicglittergirl · 30/06/2015 07:39

Submissive women

susiedaisy · 01/07/2015 21:10

If you had to choose one family to spend a year with which one would it be??

The tropical island
Belize
Sweden in the snow

DustBunnyFarmer · 01/07/2015 21:38

OMG Susie, that's like asking people if they'd rather have Syphilis or Leprosy. None of the above! (But the tropical island ones at a push, because the beaches look lovely and the wife looked so desperate for company you might have some decent chats.)

susiedaisy · 01/07/2015 22:09

GrinGrin All I know is it wouldn't be the Belize family.

cosmicglittergirl · 01/07/2015 22:31

I'd go for the volcano family- near a town at least...!

DustBunnyFarmer · 01/07/2015 22:41

near a town at least

Good point.

volcano family

Active volcano? Shops and doctors? Active volcano? Shops and doctors? Hmm. That's tricky.

DustBunnyFarmer · 01/07/2015 22:42

Interesting that the Belize family are not garnering any takers, isn't it?

cosmicglittergirl · 01/07/2015 22:52

No way to Belize family.

My order of preference:
Volcano ( I reckon they'd be aware of it's activity and you could escape)
Sweden. Looks cosy and I love Scandinavia.
Island. I would hate it, but hey
Belize. Psycho dad and a lingering risk of poachers, wild animals, massive insects and smuggery of the highest order.

susiedaisy · 02/07/2015 00:03

Oh yes the volcano family I forgot about them.

Think my choice would be
Island family
Then maybe the Sweden couple
