There is so much stuff on Youtube, and probably loads I'd like to watch but I am having trouble finding it.

What would you recommend?

I have been watching loads of World's Strictest Parents, and I am getting bored! Smile

WARNING POSSIBLE TRIGGER

I avoid things that reference suicide. I am only saying this because it is surprisingly common for this topic to crop up everywhere.

I like to use daily motion for you tube ideas.

The Annabel Chong Story

DoveOfPeace · 15/06/2015 10:03

It's nice to see so many people using this thread! Smile

I am watching a three part series, on YouTube, called Gareth Malone's Extraordinary School for Boys - It's about improving boys' reading and writing skills, at primary school level. I have only watched the first two, so far.

Ignorant question - if I 'watch' this thread will it still disappear after 90 days from 'threads I'm watching' because it is 'chat'? If so, can we have this thread moved? (Though i wouldn't know to where? would telly addicts be right?)

I like watching documentaries but haven't thought of watching them on youtube - I'm trawling through on BBC iplayer and the channel 4 one. I've just watched 'Twin Sisters: A world apart' which is the true story of twin sisters from China, abandoned as babies and adopted by 2 separate sets of parents - one set in the USA and the other in Norway. By an amazing co-incidence (whole groups of parents are collecting their babies in one hectic room) the 2 couples meet and notice how alike their daughters are, later discover the girls are twins and then keep in touch. It is a very poignant story and beautifully filmed, especially the sisters meeting in Norway.

pannetone · 15/06/2015 12:40

Should have said - the 'Twin Sisters' programme is only available on BBC iplayer for 10 more days.

DoveOfPeace · 15/06/2015 17:09

Yes, pannetone, it would disappear after 90 days, even from your watched threads.... I am not sure how to go about getting this thread moved though.

I watched that twin sisters documentary btw. Smile Thanks.

LOVE documentaries!

Man on Wire, the story of a French acrobat who put a wire between the Twin Towers in the 70s and walked across..a few times. Mind blowing.

Catfish, the original documentary that spawned the TV show.

BeccaMumsnet · 15/06/2015 17:22

Hi everyone - we're just going to pop this thread over to Telly Addicts so it doesn't go poof.

IHaveBrilloHair · 15/06/2015 17:24

Thank you Becca.
I am really enjoying this thread.

DoveOfPeace · 15/06/2015 17:55

Thanks for moving it. Smile

Man on wire is amazing, we have the DVD and have watched it loads of time, watching the construction of the twin towers is so very sad now.

We watched the Twins, Worlds Apart on iplayer last night, it broke my heart watching those girls parting, scenery is breathtaking.

DH watched the steroid one, he said in the words of Jeremy Clarkson 'don't go to America' but I imagine steroid abuse is worldwide.

Just loving this thread, thank you OP

My Amityville Horror, the son Daniel Lutz tells his story of what happened.
It's very weird and you just feel for him, the boy then and the man now.

TheWildRumpyPumpus · 16/06/2015 10:52

Child of Rage is fascinating.
Paradise Lost (about the West Memphis 3)
Just Melvin, Just Evil (child abuse warning)
Boy Interrupted (brilliant but suicide warning)

Will think of others I've loved. Looking forward to watching some of these.

pannetone · 16/06/2015 17:58

Thanks woowoo22 - you mentioned the BBC documentaries about the Amish - I watched the first one of the two programmes when it was shown years ago. I didn't know there was a follow up - watched it last night. I am so glad the little Amish girl with leukemia is recovering ( hopefully has recovered by now) but Sad about the huge costs for her treatment they have to meet.

For those interested the first documentary is called 'Trouble in Amish Paradise' and the follow-up filmed a couple of years later is 'Leaving Amish Paradise'.

I'll watch 'Lost Boys of Polygamy' now.

DoveOfPeace · 16/06/2015 19:36

I really, really enjoyed The Lost Boys of Polygamy one.

I also watched Atheists: Inside the World of Non-Believers. It's an American programme, and shows the kinds of reactions people get, when they admit to being atheists. I found it quite shocking tbh. I don't think you'd get those kinds of reactions from people in the UK...might be wrong though.

I watched 'There's something wrong with Aunt Diane' and 'Cropsey' in the last few days.

Also forget to mention 'Capturing the Friedmans' before.

IHaveBrilloHair · 24/06/2015 16:39

Watched and enjoyed Cropsey, bloody creepy though.

DoveOfPeace · 12/10/2015 21:59

I know this is quite an old thread but I thought back to it.

Dreams of a Life, which was mentioned on here, is on Film4, on 16th October. It's on early, at 1:30am, but I've set it to record.

Just thought I would post here in case others were interested.

Have just watched a youtube documentary called Mickey Mouse Monopoly.

It was very interesting. It's about how Disney affects how children view the world, and influences their understanding of gender, beauty, race etc. I highly recommend watching it...Hence me reactivating this thread! Smile
