There is so much stuff on Youtube, and probably loads I'd like to watch but I am having trouble finding it.

What would you recommend?

I have been watching loads of World's Strictest Parents, and I am getting bored! Smile

WARNING POSSIBLE TRIGGER

I avoid things that reference suicide. I am only saying this because it is surprisingly common for this topic to crop up everywhere.

I love historical stuff especially on royally. I saw a few on the Romanovs and the Russian revolution it was great

ScrambledEggAndToast · 28/05/2015 13:27

Extreme Cheapskates. So cringeworthy at times but very funny.

Miltonmaid · 28/05/2015 13:34

Great thread, thank you for the starting it and the ideas.

blackheartsgirl · 28/05/2015 13:43

I've watched a couple of documentaries on chernobyl. that was interesting. Some great suggestions here

Idontseeanydragons · 28/05/2015 13:46

Excellent thread, that Jim Parsons episode of who do you think you are is really very good. One of the best American episodes I think. Spike Lee is good too.

blueemerald · 28/05/2015 14:29

I second Bigger, Faster, Stronger. I have less than no interest in steroids and bodybuilding but it is a great documentary. More about the 3 brothers and their relationships with their parents and wives really.

number27 · 28/05/2015 14:31

thanks for this thread, watching virgin daughters now!

MsJudgyPants · 28/05/2015 14:36

The Dying Rooms - a documentary about orphans in China, made in 1995.

It is VERY upsetting, but obviously gives a good insight into what was going on at the time - I can only hope things have changed since. It won an award I believe.

IHaveBrilloHair · 28/05/2015 14:38

Watched virgin daughters earlier, interesting but ick.
Going to watch the steroid one in a bit

Aussiemum78 · 28/05/2015 14:47

Growing up poor - four corners program.

It's Australian but very good.

Also, A Letter to Zachary

Is one of the most thrilling, gripping and tragic documentaries I have ever seen.
It deals with a man who is allegedly murdered by his girlfriend who then announces she is pregnant.

A friend of the murdered father decides to interview as many of his friends and relatives as he can to make a cinematic scrap book for the baby. While he is filming the work evolves into more of a real crime film.

I hate spoilers but out of respect to the OP I will say that the film DOES NOT end well and there is a murder and suicide involved. So not one for you OP but I hope you don't mind me suggesting it for others as it really affected me.

I wa going to suggest 14 Children and Expecting again, but seeing as it is about the Duggars, it's probably not one to watch right now. It was their first ever TV appearance and I found it fascinating. It was filmed around teh time of the allegations though, so has a whole new meaning now :(

AttitcusFinchIsMyFather · 28/05/2015 16:31

Two that we watched on my psychology course, Child of Rage and Genie (secrets ofaa wild child). Both deal with child abuse though, so watch with caution.

IHaveBrilloHair · 28/05/2015 16:42

Just watched Growing up poor, v good.
Does anyone know the name of the one with the woman who lay dead in her flat for years?

Minifingers9 · 28/05/2015 16:53

Dreams of a life? Really haunting.

DoveOfPeace · 28/05/2015 17:02

blueemarald, thanks for warning me.

Thanks for all these replies. It's nice that everyone is using this thread to find all the good stuff that's out there.

That Dreams of a Life, (I am assuming there is nothing triggering in it), Is it actually on Youtube? I couldn't find it. Could someone please post a link to it for me?

Flowers Thanks

Dreams of a Life is very good, there was a limited release in the cinemas way back when, which I missed but ended up seeing it on 40D, so you can check there.

loveliesbleeding1 · 28/05/2015 17:07

I saw one called Ghosts of the Underground, creepy true life stories of London Underground workers.

MamaMary · 28/05/2015 17:10

I watched the VICE one called Surviving in the Siberian Wilderness for 70 years - about a woman living a very isolated and precarious life in Siberia.

It's definitely worth a watch, but frustratingly short at 35 mins in length. I just wanted them to ask her more questions about her life and her history!

number27 · 28/05/2015 17:31

best docu I've watched this year was tallhotblond it was on Netflix but I'm sure you can find it on YouTube. somebody does die but its not suicide its murder. but its the whole story that's compelling disturbing.

mylittlepeanutface · 28/05/2015 17:37

The Staircase. It's about the trial of a man accused of his wife's murder. It is so interesting and lots of revelations occur along the way.

MissDexter · 28/05/2015 18:51

We Are Legion on Netflix. All about Anonymous and very interesting.

Also, The Town Addicted To Meth.

blueemerald · 28/05/2015 18:58

Child of rage is very good, as is Born schizophrenic about a 7 year old girl diagnosed with schizophrenia (controversially) and her parents decision to try and manage/treat her themselves as best they can.

blueemerald · 28/05/2015 19:02

Oh, and the orginal Catfish movie is on youtube and is much much better than the tv series (which I love in a trashy way).
