There is so much stuff on Youtube, and probably loads I'd like to watch but I am having trouble finding it.

What would you recommend?

I have been watching loads of World's Strictest Parents, and I am getting bored! Smile

WARNING POSSIBLE TRIGGER

I avoid things that reference suicide. I am only saying this because it is surprisingly common for this topic to crop up everywhere.

I have just watched the following on Youtube: -

Marc Dutroux - Belgian Serial Killer (Crime Documentary)

Marc Dutroux abducted 6 girls aged 8 -19. This suggests that there may have been a police cover up.

I've just finished watching Blackfish on Netflix. Gah, the human race can be awful sometimes :(

LadyBaelish · 30/05/2015 23:48

Blackfish, about orcas in captivity, specfically Tilikum at Seaworld who has been involved in the deaths of 3 people. Very powerful.

iPlayer had one about the Strangeways riot a while ago, that was brilliant but I'm not sure if it's still available.

The Condemned, about a Russian prison exclusively for murderers. All in Russian with subtitles but absolutely gripping.

LadyBaelish · 30/05/2015 23:50

Blush somehow I skipped page three and didn't see that Blackfish had been mentioned!

DoveOfPeace · 31/05/2015 12:07

I watched the Centralia one.
I watched The Dark Matter of Love one too.

I can't find the Painted Babies one. Could somebody post a link, please?

I quite often watch documentaries on history channel, discovery channel and the American PBS channel on you tube.

SilenceOfTheSAHMs · 31/05/2015 14:58

This is why I simply luffs you all on MN. I have a lovely long list of interesting things to watch in peace when Dc's back to school :)

IHaveBrilloHair · 31/05/2015 17:18

I watched lost boys of polygamy and enjoyed it.
Quite fancy something about the Vietnam war next if anyone has any suggestions?

Mamiof3 · 31/05/2015 18:08

If you search 'Painted Babies part one' I think a user called Lindsay Wilkies has it on her channel

DoveOfPeace · 01/06/2015 11:10

Thank you, Mamiof3. I am going to watch that next time Dh is out. I think it's more my thing than his.

I watched a documentary called Stolen Brides, yesterday.
It's about Zana and Nadia Muhsen, who were sold into marriage, by their father, as young teenagers. At the time they believed they were on holiday in The Yemen just visiting family.

If your looking for a much shorter / lighthearted documentary, I also watched Time Warp Wives. It was about people who like to live as if they were in a different era. The woman who plays Auntie Angela, in Outnumbered, narrates it.

I watched one called Geisha Girl yesterday.

It followed a 15 year old Japanese girl, as she did her initial training to become a geisha.

I am just bumping this thread.

I have had lots of good recommendations from this thread, and I would like to keep it going Smile

Stolen brides was good.
I've not watched any for a few days but I did watch an old film based on a true story, called 'not without my daughter', which I enjoyed.
It's about a husband taking his wife and dd on holiday to Iran and them not letting them leave.

DoveOfPeace · 06/06/2015 13:11

Oh, I am going to give that one a try, IHaveBrilloHair. I have actually read the book of Not Without My Daughter. I didn't know it was made into a film - Thank you Smile

Sally Field is in it

BitOfFun · 06/06/2015 13:25

There was a fascinating and surprisingly moving Storyville on BBC2 on Thursday. I'm not sure of the title, but it will still be on iplayer.

It was about James Randi, the American magician-turned-investigator who exposed Uri Gellar and other charlatans. Highly recommended.

Letitsnow9 · 06/06/2015 14:54

Voices from the shadows (free on Vimeo although one reference to suicide), dark matter of love- would love if they did an update one day, sound and fury I found fascinating although sad that the girl clearly wanted the cochlea implant but said she did so as her dad was so against it, not only was it good but the follow up was w complete 180 and always stuck with me. I've seen a few of the born schizophrenic ones but refuse to watch the latest after learning more and more about the parents (sad to see a girl so drugged but they also admitted they tried starving and beating 'it' out of her yet in the program's it's made out they should win parent of the year). I watched Thin in YouTube and really want the book that goes with it but it's £25, following young adults inpatient for eating disorders, there's some good cut scenes on YouTube too.

DoveOfPeace · 07/06/2015 10:53

Thanks for the last couple of suggestions. Smile Flowers

If anyone liked Touching the Void there's a good documentary on Netflix called Summit. It's about tragic events on K2 in 2008.

DoveOfPeace · 10/06/2015 16:39

I also watched: -

The Boy Who Lived Before - This follows the story of Cameron and his family. Cameron is 5 years old and often takes about a past life.
This documentary takes place, with him visiting the place he believes he lived, and looks at whether there could be any truth in it.

Sex, Prams and Exams - Follows Kizzy Neal, a teenager, who had a baby at 14.

Placemarking for ideas!

kissmelittleass · 14/06/2015 20:34

Bumping!!

ClareAbshire · 14/06/2015 20:37

Place marking as love a documentary.

Just enjoyed Dear Zachary which was heartbreaking but beautiful- makes you believe in the good in people despite what happened to the family.

Jacksonyellow · 14/06/2015 20:38

I watched a good one about the strangeways prison riot. I can't remember what it's called but I think it would be obvious if you search strangeways documentary.
