It's back on Thursday! here. No details of contestants yet. How many men this time? Any?

Ten sewers, six weeks, can't wait!

(Can't think of another word for sewers at the moment, wish I could!)

Am I the only non-sewer on this thread?

PigeonPie · 16/02/2015 16:13

Anne - don't be a non-sewer - pick up a needle and find something to sew!

Be inspired and see if there are any courses in your area Smile

OnlyLovers · 16/02/2015 16:13

No, I don't sew either. Stilll traumatised by long-ago debacles at school; the teacher used to regularly have to pick my messes out of the sewing machine and coax it back to life Blush.

I just watch for Claudia, Patrick and the bitchery and tensions personalities.

SoupDragon · 16/02/2015 16:23

Soupy you do need to remember that whilst I haven't done them for more than 20 years, when I was doing them that was pretty much all I was doing as an apprentice tailor - well pockets, bastes for fittings and final buttons!

Avd I did two years of crappy Needlework at secondary school where I was told I had "little talent for the subject" :o which i remember and smile about every time I sew a child's costume for "dress as a ?????" Day at school :)

I had no idea what a welt pocket was and last year taught me about the flat felled seam.

Roussette · 16/02/2015 16:38

I'm a lapsed sewer. Many many years ago I used to make some of my own clothes. I have no talent whatsoever, but I did at the time enjoy it. Then along came DH, DCs, and we moved and I lost the foot pedal to my machine in the move and I sort of gave up!

I love watching it but don't really want to start again but love hearing about others talents and watching Sewing Bee!

Delurking to say that I never "got" Patrick until he shaved his beard Grin

OnlyLovers · 16/02/2015 17:08

Oh, I'm the other way round. I love the beard and am a bit Hmm at him without it.

I still would, though, don't get me wrong.

I'm sure he'd be relieved to hear that.

Roussette · 16/02/2015 17:16

Beardy Patrick's my bag Grin

I sew name tapes on DD's uniform. That is sort of sewing.

OttiliaVonBCup · 16/02/2015 19:49

My sewing machine gave up.

Just when I had big plans for a bit of cotton lawn I've been hoarding for months.

PigeonPie · 16/02/2015 20:29

Anne - that is definitely sewing. It was about the only thing I did for ages (apart from the inevitable mending!).

Roussette · 19/02/2015 07:54

Really looking forward to tonight. Here's what's happening -

"At a time when home sewing was at its height, the first challenge will involve following one of the biggest-selling dress patterns of that era.

Next they are given a vintage item to transform into a wearable garment, before making a 1950s blouse out of an unforgiving sheer fabric"

I can't wait for the 'unforgiving' fabric - total 'mare! And all this is on antiqu machines!

This is going to be trip down memory lane for me as my DM had a machine like this and I used to pratt about on it making dolls clothes.

Roussette, that's exactly the machine I learned to sew with, too.

Roussette · 19/02/2015 20:13

I know... they're using these machines now on the prog and it brings back memories - they couldn't thread them and I was shouting out how Grin

BOFster · 19/02/2015 20:14

I just love this style of dress.

Roussette · 19/02/2015 20:15

Yes isn't it lovely shame I'm so thick round the waist

OP posts:
Halsall · 19/02/2015 20:17

I was just saying to dh that I could probably thread that machine blindfolded Grin.

Remember the funny bobbin that's like a little pointy shuttle?
