I'm just catching up on last night's episode. I'm loving it, but I just realised Cromwell is Flop! He's flop! Cromwell is Flop! I didn't know.

Sorry to lower the intellectual tone of this conversation, I'll be on my way Blush

JustCallMeDory · 29/01/2015 13:07

marshmallowpies yy you took the words out of my mouth.

Also - tone lowering alert - starting to get the hots for TC too.

Loved the portrayal of the complex TC / Gregory relationship, and how Gregory got his white greyhounds, even though it wasn't flagged up explicitly.

ohmymimi · 29/01/2015 13:35

BOF - Thank you so much for that link. The National Archive website is an unexplored treasure for me. I've TB's Cromwell book on my Kindle to read on holiday in Feb., so will listen to that podcast on the 'plane, before getting stuck into the book.

BOFster · 29/01/2015 14:15

It's really good, I promise. I'm so glad I've found that site too- there's all sorts on it.

It struck me last night that Rylance's Thomas Cromwell has a touch of Ted from The Fast Show about him...Grin

MuddhaOfSuburbia · 29/01/2015 14:58

MR's accent is all over the fuckin place

but I loved it

I love Creepy Thomas More also. Even though am a shameless TM fan

oh and apparently he DID used to go to bed with Lady Alice.

ooh and Call Me turned out to be a nasty piece of work

I do like the bloke out of the annoying Barclaycard ads. I hope this means he will never be BOOTABCA again

MuddhaOfSuburbia · 29/01/2015 15:01

the lighting is quite beautiful- I swear I dream about it afterwards

squoosh · 29/01/2015 15:03

I adore the lighting, can't believe people it's had complaints. Some of the scenes are like paintings brought to life.

squoosh · 29/01/2015 15:03

Which is Barclaycard man?

eddiemairswife · 29/01/2015 15:04

I think inspection of sheets etc. was necessary in the case of royal marriages to confirm that a) the marriage had been consummated, and b) the bride was a virgin. For all we know it could still happen today!!

MuddhaOfSuburbia · 29/01/2015 15:12

George Cavendish here squoosh

he was really good at doing sad I thought

had only ever seen him in BC ad. And one of Karen's shags, in Pulling

ooh! ooh! and isn't Gatiss brilliantly awful

squoosh · 29/01/2015 15:16

Oh I loved Gardiner's haughty 'what kind of a Putney enquiry is that?' when Cromwell was quizzing him about his sex life! Grin

squoosh · 29/01/2015 15:19

There was quite a hot guy in it last night, will have to go and find out what his name was.

AlmaMartyr · 29/01/2015 15:23

Which one Squoosh? I'm really enjoying it and so is DH, much to his surprise!

squoosh · 29/01/2015 15:27

The guy playing Thomas Cranmer with the natty head covering was the one who caught my eye.

squoosh · 29/01/2015 15:32

Muddha Cavendish actor does sad and sincere extremely well. Took me ages to remember where I recognised him from, Gavin and Stacey.

AlmaMartyr · 29/01/2015 15:33

Ah yes, he was quite nice! I'm really enjoying Mark Rylance as TC tbh, he's exactly what I imagined when I read the books.

Clawdy · 29/01/2015 15:46

Love it in every way, just wish the strange-faced small boy from Love Actually wasn't playing TC's son..... he still looks about twelve.

MuddhaOfSuburbia · 29/01/2015 16:01

oh I dunno

he (or his role at least) properly got on my nerves in LA. And for a while he seemed to get every Small Boy role going

but I like him as a strange-faced big boy. He fits the look of the thing as well imo

I am now deeply immersed in both the book and the TV drama. Loving every second. I was reluctant to leave the house this morning preferring to stay home and sprinkle rose water and strew fresh herbs and reeds upon the floor......

Much as I love MR with his sad spaniel eyes.....
I don't understand how such a quiet and seemingly unassuming man can have such power, even though he is very clever.

Some very powerful scenes this episode. I love the encounter with Mary Boelyn, and the archery scene with the King.

And as for the white rabbit, is he from the same family as produced " General Flopsy" for the BBC Childrens show MI High ?

Travelled those rushes won't change themselves you slattern.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 29/01/2015 16:48

How many candles are you writing this by the light of, Travelled?

CitronVert · 29/01/2015 16:54

I wouldn't mind changing the rushes, at least if have something to do. It must have been so tedious being an upper class women, doing nothing but sitting and sewing all day (in between popping out heirs).
