I has rhesus disease as a newborn. Thankfully medical science had improved by the time I was born! I would not have survived otherwise.

hackmum · 26/01/2015 18:45

Well, that was heartbreakingly sad. And even sadder to read people's true life stories of stillbirths on here.

There's a lot of change this series, isn't there? Jenny's gone, Chummy's out of action (can't even remember what's happened to her), Cynthia is temporarily gone (assume she's coming back), Pam Ferris is going (for good?) and two new midwives.

I quite like the new characters, but I do wish they'd get rid of that bloody awful Vanessa Redgrave voiceover. It's so platitudinous. i swear it gets more nonsensical every week.

HelpMeGetOutOfHere · 26/01/2015 18:55

Chummy has gone to be matron at the un married mothers home. They said temporarily so guess leaving it open for her to come back.

Mrsjayy · 26/01/2015 19:01

Vanessa does babble doesn't she Grin I guess they just didn't want to get rid of her I thought when we saw her in the Christmas episode that would be her gone as the new series isn't based on the stories from the book

Mrsjayy · 26/01/2015 19:03

Were you soupdragon just shows how far medicine has come

ilovechristmas1 · 26/01/2015 19:18

i love the voiceover

SoupDragon · 26/01/2015 19:22

Yes, my mum was induced 4 weeks early and I had something like 1.5 exchange blood transfusions. So monitoring of the unborn baby and treatment had improved by then (end of the 60s)

Mrsjayy · 26/01/2015 19:54

My husband had blood transfusion s at birth too hevis rhesus positive must be the same thing mil never elaborated just said he was poorly and needed a change of blood

mineallmine · 26/01/2015 20:46

My mam had a stillborn baby in 1969. She was 7 months pregnant. She was never told whether it was a boy or a girl, she has no idea what happened to the baby and as a pp said, my dad was advised to not talk about it so that she'd 'get over it quicker.' My mam only told me about it after I had my first child and she still can't talk about it without breaking down (and my mam is tough as nails.) It was bloody awful how stillbirths were treated.

bambinibop · 26/01/2015 22:01

I forgot about cynthia what happened to her?! I didn't see the Christmas special so I think I've missed some things...can someone fill me in?!

girliefriend · 26/01/2015 22:04

Cynthia decided to become a nun.

I think Jenny went off to get married.

Chummy went off to run the unmarried mothers home.

ThePortlyPinUp · 26/01/2015 22:12

Emmy got engaged but then her fiancé died so she left to get away from it all.

ThePortlyPinUp · 26/01/2015 22:13

Bloody autocorrect, Jenny not Emmy.

Mrsjayy · 26/01/2015 22:15

Jennys boyfriend died a roof fell on him think she just left to grieve

girliefriend · 26/01/2015 22:16

No Jenny met another man, the cousin of a patient Hmm and went off to marry him!! I've forgotten his name but the surname was Worth.

Mrsjayy · 26/01/2015 22:22

Oh was the cousin staying with the cousin because her husband was away or something ?

girliefriend · 26/01/2015 22:23

Yes that was the one Grin

Mrsjayy · 26/01/2015 22:26

I remember now funny how bits you remember and forget

bambinibop · 26/01/2015 22:29

Undiagnosed twins happened relatively recently - dd's godfather was a twin and the mum didn't find out until 8.5 months . This was 1977.

catwithflowers · 26/01/2015 23:30

My dad is a twin. He was born in 1942 and when the midwife delivered the first of my granny's babies, neither the nurse nor my granny had any idea she was expecting twins. And my gran remembered they did actually say, "Mrs X, there's another one in there"!!!!

limitedperiodonly · 26/01/2015 23:53

I was a suspected twin in the '60s. I was just large. Or maybe I just did for the the other one like a baby shark.

limitedperiodonly · 26/01/2015 23:56

My mum was also a twin - fraternal - so she wasn't surprised to hear she might be carrying twins.
