hesterson that is what i would have thought! I don't think it would have raised that many eyebrows tbh. I'm a community nurse and know of a few elderly female patients that have lived with their 'companion' for many years.
Its funny but although things have obviously changed a lot since 1960 I can still sometimes relate to the issues the nurses have, the challenges of caring for people in their own homes fundamentally don't really change. The lady keeping a fungating breast wound a secret is something I have come across a few times recently
I was a little bit
at treating a pressure sore with hydrogen peroxide - bet that stung a bit!! It didn't really explain why he was in bed all the time and I am guessing the reality of turning a patient 2 hourly would just not have been a feasible option (which is the same now but at least we can offer pressure relieving mattresses.)
I also thought the new Jenny nurse was so rude in that home, about as much tact as a sledge hammer!!
