OP posts:
ZingTheGreat · 14/01/2015 12:24

thinking about it when I don't breastfeed which makes me just ravenous I am a feaster and an emotional eater, not a constant craver.

hmm.

really stupid that bf is not at all considered in the test as it is a major contributor to many people's eating habits and weight gain

rollonthesummer · 14/01/2015 12:41

Eggs are a good idea but DH commutes 2 hours each way to work and is out of the house by 6am-I just can't see him cooking at that time. He normally has toast but bread is probably a no-no. I wonder what museli is like for GI?

frumpet · 14/01/2015 13:36

rollonthesummer why don't you batch make some egg muffins and he could eat a couple of those on the journey ?

fancyanotherfez · 14/01/2015 14:20

I have some plain yoghurt with a tiny sprinkling of sugar free museli. If I understand GI properly. the yoghurt has to be full fat, then it reduces the GI of the museli.

I was a constant craver, but only by 59%, when as i was watching the programme, i identified with that group far, far more than any of the other groups.

To the people commenting who didn't watch the programme, yes, it is all calories in/ energy out, but it helped people to understand why they overate. Calories in out has been said for 50 years. People know it, but get fatter and fatter. The programme showed people the different ways they eat. For example, I couldn't finish a packet of biscuits in one go, it seems bizarre to me when people say they can't open a packet of biscuits without eating the whole packet, but those people probably would be able to resist eating one off a plate of biscuits 10 minutes after lunch if it was offered. I wouldn't. It means people know what to be mindful of. It's up to them and their willpower as to whether they succeed.

t875 · 14/01/2015 14:32

I'm going to be stuck when it comes to dropping carbs any ideas what to eat? I don't really like fish Hmm

BuzzardBird · 14/01/2015 14:43

I have done the test and the results say that I am none of the catergories. So that's that then. Hmm

PeoniesforMissAnnersley · 14/01/2015 15:13

I am 92% constant craver Grin I need TiP to kick my arse into the 5:2 diet, I have known for ages I should do it but lack the will power. My bmi is 21.5 so it's not to lose a huge amount of weight, just to shift some fat and get healthy.

Hulababy · 14/01/2015 16:17

I came out as primarily a constant craver and it suggests an intermittent dieting approach. I assume this is like the 5:2 diets - I shall read more.

Part of my issue is that I do very little exercise these days. I guess I just haven't found the type of exercise that suits me. I used to like running years ago and did try it again a couple of years back - my my arthritis just couldn't cope with it. Ideally I guess I should swim - but I am a very weak swimmer so using it as a form of exercise isn't great - I just can't keep going for long enough. I do need to consider what I should do exercise wise though.

hollyisalovelyname · 14/01/2015 16:37

I'm between an emotional eater and a constant craver.
Typically non standard me Smile.
Except for feet- i'm a five/ five and a half and there always tje first to go in shoe shopsHmm

fatlazymummy · 14/01/2015 17:17

I enjoyed this programme. I usually find programmes about weightloss interesting, especially ones that focus on the scientific aspects.
I've just done the quiz, I'm a constant craver. I do snack quite a bit but not because I feel hungry. I think I'm more like one of those secret eaters that puts things in my mouth without thinking, even though I don't need it. I might give intermittent fasting another go. I tried it before but stopped, because I find counting calories extremely irritating. I've got to say, 800 calories sounds a lot better than 500, which is what I tried before.

fancyanotherfez · 14/01/2015 17:57

Yes flm, I thought the 800 cals on the programme sounded better than 500 calories. I have done 5:2 in the past and have been starving midday. A light snack might just keep me going. I seem to be putting on weight like nobody's business since Christmas, so have to do something before its too late!

amidaiwish · 14/01/2015 18:21

I was in town today and I found "knowing" I am a constant craver. "No you don't need a sandwich with your coffee, you've had lunch" I told myself even though I was a bit peckish it soon wore off. Before I would have had it.

I will also stop eating the kids' leftovers. Wish my kids ate as well as I do!!

yumyumpoppycat · 14/01/2015 18:43

I totally missed your post Ilivedtotellthetale!! You were on the program! I wonder if other people missed your post aswell ... well done on the abseil that really was amazing! Were there any bits not included in the program that you felt were especially helpful? Did you find you lost more weight than you would normally when dieting?

FrankelandFilly · 14/01/2015 19:10

Yes congratulations Ilivedtotellthetale, that's a great achievement. Hope the diet has continued to do well.

amidaiwish I find that technique works for me too, if I stop and ask myself "Do you really need to buy that?" in the supermarket it will prevent me putting crap in the trolley. I liked the suggestion of thinking of it as a battle with the junk food manufacturers rather than with yourself.

orangeyellowgreen · 14/01/2015 19:13

Like everything on dieting, it talked a lot about hunger. I don't think most overweight people have ever been hungry, we don't overeat because we're hungry.
It showed there are basically 3 causes and your overeating can be down to hormones or genes but you've still got to stick at a diet to lose it.

RedToothBrush · 14/01/2015 20:17

This thread is frustrating as its obvious the posters commenting who have just done the test but not watched the programme.

I think the test is actually pretty worthless on its own.

The point of the programme is that it focuses on the psychologically of why people over ate but the test only focused on the food that is best for each type of eater.

The psychologically is far more important in what they were doing to aid people with a life change which included changing what they were actually eating.

HalfWayHome · 14/01/2015 20:24

I'm 73% Constant Craver. Trying the first day on low calorie, low carb. I AM HUNGRY! Even the Biscuit is looking tasty.

BiscuitsAreMyDownfall · 14/01/2015 20:24

Red Im too busy to watch a program TBH and I did the test as a bit of fun. Yes I am overweight (BMI 27.4 - size 14, need to lose 2 stone) and I know I should do something about it, but right now I have other things I am trying to achieve in 2015 and my diet (by which I mean the food I eat, not a particular diet Im following) is taking a backseat. I know why I overeat and have figured out my problem with food. Which right now I actually dont want to fix too much. Maybe when I have changed a few other areas in my life which needs fixing my eating habits can be looked at in more detail.

CatCushion · 14/01/2015 20:27

So...from what I remember of last night's show, I don't need any Biscuit and Biscuit pushers can keep them. Anyone think of anything else I should do? (Wish If made my omelette into a soup, now!)

RedToothBrush · 14/01/2015 20:38

Biscuits, if I'm perfectly honest that sounds very much like a massive excuse. If you had enough time to do the test, I suspect you do have time to watch the programme, its just you don't want to commit to changing your lifestyle at this point but you feel the need to justify it here.

Which is actually perfectly fine, but just say that and say you can't be arsed to watch the programme as you aren't fully focussed on weight loss at this moment in time. No need to say you don't have the time to watch it. If you wanted to, you'd find the time...

If you make up excuses, like that then I'm sure you'll always have one. You have to be honest with yourself about what your priorities in life are, when it comes to your lifestyle. It doesn't matter to me at the end of the day, but honesty with yourself, is often people's greatest battles in life.

BiscuitsAreMyDownfall · 14/01/2015 20:51

It took 5 mins to do the test, but you are right I probably would find the time if I really wanted to. I was just giving my reason for doing the test without watching the program.

My priorities ATM are to get a job, get some friends (feel very lonely), to clean my mess of a house and to do something about my mental health. Once I have tackled the areas of my life that is making me unhappy then I can tackle my weight. Being thinner will not make me happy, but being happy might make me thinner.

amidaiwish · 14/01/2015 21:06

Good for you biscuits.

I have fallen asleep through the programme, twice.
Will try again this evening (I have it recorded on the planner) although now there are 3 programmes to watch.

BiscuitsAreMyDownfall · 14/01/2015 21:10

Thanks ami

RedToothBrush · 14/01/2015 21:19

Good for you biscuits for saying that. I hope you can figure it out. Its part of the whole psychologically really.
