mummyr sorry to here you lost your appeal. I guess you should take some advise as to whether to go to tribunal. My friend went to tribunal for her case, but she was up against a bank, so it was very hard as they had a lot of resources to hand. Hug coming your way.

I hate these dark mornings :(

Richtea19 · 06/01/2015 07:26

icemist I've just seen your photo selection which has now brightened up my dark morning.

I go through irons pretty quickly too, and because of that I always buy cheap ones, maybe I should invest in one of those decent ones with a stand and stuff, I just can't stand spending loads of money on an iron!

firegirl · 06/01/2015 07:54

icemist pistols, forearms, gloves great selection of pictures this morning, thank you.
Sorry to hear about your case mummyr, afraid I have no experience so can't really help but wish you well.

orphan · 06/01/2015 08:08

Morning all. Mission Get Everyone Up For School has been achieved.

mummyr am so sorry to hear about your appeal. I know absolutely nothing about such things, but echo others as to seeking advice about going to tribunal.

icemist I really look forward to seeing which pics you've chosen each morning! Pic 1 has always been a fave ( look at his jaw definition) and Pic 3 makes me want to hug (very tightly) him.

As for irons - am always dropping and killing mine.

pixieg1rl · 06/01/2015 08:13

I save money on irons by never ironing. I gave up ironing when I was pregnant with DS (I was very unwell) and never saw the point of starting again. I got rid of the ironing board years ago.

Who was it that was interested in Noor Inayat Khan? There's a documentary on her on the BBC Worldservice tomorrow
www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p02fwl80

orphan · 06/01/2015 08:27

Ooh that was cherin. Well spotted pixie.

I have a hate/hate relationship with irons ever since managing to burn my lip on one when attempting to sniff the scented ironing water I'd put in it..!

orphan · 06/01/2015 08:29

Ah, but pixie would you be tempted back into ironing if the combats on/combats off ironing board cover actually existed?

Beingfrank · 06/01/2015 09:25

Mummyr - really sorry to hear things are so tough for you.

Orphan - I just spat out my coffee reading about your burnt lip! I didn't mean to laugh it must have been very painful!

Icemist - My irons last for ever as not much gets ironed here! You only need proof of purchase to take something back, so if you have a credit card statement with it on that should suffice. I would definitely try and take it back with or without proof of purchase, 6 months use is not good enough.

Oneforthegirls · 06/01/2015 09:49

Re film sequencing mentioned last night.
I think there are a couple of big continuity errors in there. It all in BA/CJ's hair and tan!
I think the Bastion stuff was filmed at the same time. Look at his hair and pale skin at the start of episode one, it is the same as when they get back to in Episode 4. Most notably when CJ has MD in his cabin and Smurf comes in. Then when they go on the infamous bridge mission, he is back in all his tanned glory with the same hair as in ep 2 and 3 at the FOB. Makes sense really, obviously different locations being used so they can't keep everything in sequence.

icemistOBE · 06/01/2015 10:20

I hate all the continuity errors in it. Its probably because I have watched it more but they are quite annoying, usually I never notice.

I thought he was quite tanned in the Molly/Smurf wardrobe scene but in that compound he's even more tanned.

I know from tweets from various crew- Wales, London and Bath were filmed after S.Africa. There is a picture of LT holding the clapper board in S.Africa from the BBC with date 4 Mar 14 with all the scenes etc at 1. They were in London and Bath by May (I spend too much time on this)

New iron purchased- hunted everywhere for receipt an no sign of it. paid cash too grrr! Just got cheapy one. Will do for now. Its mainly hubby's work stuff and school uniforms that need to be ironed.

Ditto re the continuity, although the one which still annoys my the most is the leg cast, I can't believe that!! tans, hair, chin straps, gloves on/off are annoying but I can gloss over, not knowing which leg you are supposed to have been shot in .... Aaaaagh!!!

orphan sorry, but I had to laugh as to how you burnt your lip, that's so the sort of thing I would do!!!

Right, kids at school, coffee drunk, I will NOT sit around all day watching OG, playing on my ipad and generally enjoying the peace and quiet. For goodness sake, I have a birthday party for 30 kids to organise for Saturday .... Must double away and get on ..... Well, maybe just one episode, while I write a list .....

Richtea19 · 06/01/2015 10:42

I went through a stage (after watching each episode over 10 times) that I was looking at all the detail for continuity, especially when you know all the words off by heart!!

I burnt by stomach once, ironing in the garden wearing a bikini, I have to add we are not overlooked, as that would really be a frightening sight!!!!

icemistOBE · 06/01/2015 10:48

any excuse to watch an episode... trying my new iron out

OP posts:
elsie3g · 06/01/2015 10:51

Hilarious! I never iron, it's time you could spent more productivity, like re-watching OG or chatting to mad likeminded individuals you've never actually met.

And I most certainly NEVER iron bikinis in the garden whilst sniffing the scented water (was that the right way round? and no that's not a euphemism) Wink

cherin · 06/01/2015 10:58

geeee, ladies, you beat me on all fronts, with your ironing stories!!! :-) i burnt my lips more times i care to remember, but that was always to taste a sauce or food. Ironing is something i treat with the utmost respect, and the only chore I do with pleasure (kindof) as it allows me to watch something in the meantime. so i usually do it in the evening, with long lead-earphones-ipad-netflix/iplayer ;-)
and my irons are always Tefal, fairly basic, but last around 4-5 years...
whilst i go through a bread machine typically in 2 years (I must have had 6 already), which is why i now buy them cheap, always on offer, but with extended warranty at argos, so i can replace them!

nice spotted the documentary about Noor, i'll surely watch it, thanks! but now I am snowed under work.

mymmyr, I am really sorry for this crap start of the year, i can only send virtual hugs and hope things turn better soon for your dad. But changing job can actually be quite exciting....no? think about websites you can look into, i know there are plenty for the various professions, not just the usual Jobmonster etc...and then take a very hard look at your cv and think about what you really liked doing and what you didn't. it may be your opportunity to re-focus and cut on some of the compromises you were in the habit of doing. you could do a Molly and take your destiny in your hands ;-)

pixieg1rl · 06/01/2015 11:07

Cherin, that Noor documentary is on BBC Worldservice radio, so if it's like the other beeb stuff it should be on listen again for a month or so.

firegirl · 06/01/2015 11:19

Loving all the ironing stories. I do remember a couple of times as a teenager, trying lay my hair out under a tea towel to iron it straight. Luckily, hair straighteners have been invented since then.

Rhubarb01 · 06/01/2015 11:20

Morning!

Just a quick random join in. I burnt my stomach on a hot baking tray from the oven. It was summer, it slipped and as I tried to catch it, it caught me in the gap between my jeans and my tee shirt. Not the easiest place to put under a running cold tap especially when you are trying to dish up dinner! I had a thin burnt scabby line across my stomach for weeks and a mark that stayed there for months! It finally faded although as I avoid revealing swimwear like the plague it wasn't really causing me any mental trauma.

A lesson to you all - always submerge burns under a cold running tap for five to ten minutes - the difference between doing it and not doing it is quite significant! (Goodness I think I've got my MN Health and Safety Inspector hat on again - last seen when SPO made an observation tower at the top of his stairs and I was very concerned about his kid's safety)

Ilovelblue · 06/01/2015 11:36

mummyr so sorry your appeal was overturned. I have limited experience of such things but you might remember me saying when you first broke the news to us that I had a sexual harrassment case many years ago (1988 to be exact). As it was a very small company with no means of a proper appeal, I went straight to a solicitor and when the company got wind of it, they offered to pay me off. I had by this time already got another job (which is when I blew the whistle) so they paid me to leave without working my notice. I know how absolutely devastating the whole process is. I lost nearly a stone in weight over it.

I am guessing you are not in a union otherwise they would be fighting this for you. My most recent experience (well, knowledge is probably a better description) is a friend who was made redundant. The criteria they used was suspect to say the least (they wanted to protect somebody who had a lower scoring than she did for some reason or other). She has now got another job but went to ACAS for advice in the first instance and I think the case is now going through. I would suggest they could be a good starting point. It would very rarely come to court - most companies would not want the bad publicity.

The friend I mentioned last week whose mother has died is our local union rep but for obvious reasons, I don't really feel I can ask her advice at the moment. I am going to see her later this week but could only ask if she is in the right state of mind.

Hope that helps.

icemistOBE · 06/01/2015 12:23

On to episode 3 - we've just dipped the spoon into her coco pops. Youngest laughing his head off at it- must have seen me giggling at it.

Afternoon everyone! I had my neck ironed once when I was 5 or 6 already dressed and ready for school, when my mum noticed my collar was creased and promptly attempted to iron it down. I had a triangular burn mark for weeks and it's even featured in one of my school photos. I think Social Services would be involved if I attempted that on my child today!!! Aah the good old days of zero health and safety concerns...

Richtea19 · 06/01/2015 13:30

I must share with you, I have my soft tape measure out as I am project blind and beanbag for boys playroom. I'm on my own and giggling about Operation Bulge!!!

cjwoofwoof · 06/01/2015 13:46

Good chapter 3 of What If ff by LolaGirl if anyone's not read it yet. Not clever enough to post a link - icemist can you help?
