The draw of family back home proved too strong for the Hobbs to take the plunge and emigrate down under. However George’s dream isn’t dead yet, and he plans to go out to Perth and do some locum work as a doctor for 6 weeks near the end of this year. The rest of the family then hope to fly out and join him to spend Christmas together in Australia.

Although the trip to Australia made Paula realise she wasn’t ready to emigrate just yet, she hasn’t closed the door completely on a move in the future. George has gained a promotion to senior partner at his practice back home, and the family is waiting to see how this change affects them before making any future decisions.

Yes that is their house, so they must be going then.

We're planning on moving shortly and looking at that price range. Will be looking at three bed semis down here...

This one was v interesting. I missed the first 10mins today so I didn't realise they each had older children too. The husband's son crying gave me a definite lump in my throat.

Oh I could not go in their shoes! The poor son.

I know the father of George's stepson Jack and he has made it perfectly clear George and Paula won't be taking his son to live on the other side of the world unless George wants to find himself swimming with sharks at the bottom of the sea. If you knew Jacks father as well as I do you know he would do it without hesitation at the mere suggestion of taking his son to live in Oz!

Weird that he didn't want responsibility - he was very clear about that to the practice manager in Oz - but now he has a promotion, and they are selling their house but not going.

I'm surprised they aren't contemplating taking her mum with them, too. It doesn't seem that she has many ties to the UK.

He left his children before, he will leave them again, she is as hard as nails, they will go.

Yup - agree. My DH is a dentist and there are some great opportunities in Australia. However, is the extra money really worth moving so far away from your family. plus, they had a complicated family set up. Why on earth would you even consider that when you would be leaving some children behind?

Who left the fb message? I thought they were a cold pair, I think the suggestion there was an affair was probably spot on, you have to be a certain character to behave like that.

Mmmm sounds like an amicable break up between Paula and her ex.....not!!

They had no friends beg them to stay did they?

I'd imagine the house is on the market because they're "upsizing." He's partner now in the practice afterall... They can afford to move away from such a humble abode.
